Hi I've been trying to quit for years though only seriously the last 12 months. I have gone the odd 5 - 10 days without smoking, using NRT but always seem to succumb to the urge. For the last two weeks I have been giving up every day !! until lunch time when I give in. Tomorrow I will try again and with this thread to vent off feelings maybe I' ll have more success
Here's to tomorrow

charliecat · 12/02/2006 19:59

Thanks for the link charliecat but it doesn't appear to be working.
I am going cold turkey tomorrow. I have scanned through some of the messages here and agree with those who found it very easy not to smoke using patches and very easy to take them of and smoke at will! I kinda figure no gain without pain !

It's Dp's birthday tomorrow and we are going out in the car I hate car travel and get stressed. I don't smoke in the car when the kids are in it but pull over for frequent breaks ! Tomorrow we will keep going until we reach the sea then turn round and drive back again

charliecat · 12/02/2006 20:22

does this work?

Charlie-I had a MASSIVE craving last night and then suddenly i woke up!- how bizarre dreaming of a craving

charliecat · 12/02/2006 20:55

LOL, I have had dreams where ive been smoking and have woke up GUTTED and then realised that I havent got that awful GET OUT OF BED and SMOKE feeling and realise its just a dream....phewwwww

OP posts:
notasheep · 12/02/2006 20:58

I guess these dreams are a way of getting rid of the brain washing.

charliecat · 12/02/2006 21:01

Every morning dp wakes up and coughs like an old man needing to do a big gob.I have tried to explain it just may be the fags but.......

He is still living in a mind of fog.
He doesnt want to give up

charliecat · 12/02/2006 22:42

My dp sounded awful too and within just the month hes stopped he looks beautiful and sounds better too.
I said for every penny he spent on fags could he give me the same to spend on the kids, then I started to implement it...worked a dream.
Also there were loads of 7.89, 3.45, 7.23 on his bank statement and i kept saying if you dint smoke those wouldnt be there. You would HAVE MONEY...

kleist · 12/02/2006 22:42

Nota, I remember those morning coughs. Yuck. Horrible. And that terrible empty aching in my lungs when I needed my first fix of the day ...

Dd's been very poorly for a week now with a bronchial infection. I'm exhausted, little sleep going on in our flat at the moment!

charliecat · 12/02/2006 22:46

Aww Kliest, your dds always poorly

OP posts:
kleist · 12/02/2006 22:49

Well, yes and no, some things she's totally escaped so far - she's never once vomited for instance. (touch wood!!!) But anything to do with upper respiratory things and she's ill for weeks. Her chest and lungs seem to be very bad. Can't help wondering if I've damaged her in some way with my bloody smoking ... Although dp and I are both asthmatic and it's meant to be passed on genetically?

charliecat · 12/02/2006 22:51

No idea Theres bugger all you can do either is there? Is your place dusty? Full of soft toys? I know my dds chest is better since I got rid of the HUNDREDS of soft toys we had aquired.

charliecat · 12/02/2006 22:52

Got to go freezing here see you xxxxxx

notasheep · 12/02/2006 22:52

kleist-get well soonest for your dd and hope you can get some rest.

Charlie-i suggested the same thing with dp,to give me same money when he buys tobacco,he said he couldnt afford to do that! but he can still buy the tobacco and then we have the cannabis too.

We could have sooooooo much more money.

though i am not smoking because of the money thing.i just dont want to be a drug addict

kleist · 12/02/2006 22:55

No, not a mass of soft toys. Plus no carpets etc. We're a very asthmatic-friendly household!

It's a funny thing re. the dosh you 'save' from not smoking, I kind of never really noticed a difference. But then I suspect my beer bill rose as my fag bill subsided!

canadianmum · 13/02/2006 14:55

Good luck normanprice, go for it cold turkey. The first 3 days will be difficult, the next 4 days will be a bit better and then it will get easier and easier. I am on day 12 today and my cravings are weak and infrequent, especially compared to the huge cravings I had last week.

Just think of how CLEAN your body will be .

Go for it!!!!!!!

notasheep · 13/02/2006 16:34

canadianmum-looks like i will always be one day ahead, day 13 feeling more and more like a non smoker i think.

My big cravings seem to be if i get angry with dp,obviously my sub conscious still thinks the fag will calm the anger, when in fact it creates more stress.

keep on giving up everyone

freshstart · 13/02/2006 16:35

Does anyone have allan carr that I could borrow?

notasheep · 13/02/2006 16:38

I let someone borrow my copy and never got it back in 1996!!!!!!!!!

I have been to the library for mine, had the book out for 3 weeks when in fact you could read it in an evening(thats the original slim version)

Try your library,i bet they will have a copy

normanprice · 13/02/2006 16:50

Failed try again tomorrow

notasheep · 13/02/2006 19:49

norman-dont worry, keep trying i have had loads of failures.

We are all here to support you on good and bad days

charliecat · 14/02/2006 10:24

Yep, learn something from whatever made you have a fag.
Was it a Traffic Jam?- Well that traffic jam was still there after yuoun had had a fag I bet.
You just double your sproblem, you were still in a jam and smoking too...
Eventually, after realising this..took me agood couple of years you realise there is only one way to go and thats just no smoking.
I used to get into what I think Alen Carr calls self imposed tantrums...you work yourself into a rage about something as an excuse to say I need a fag...
Try again. One of these attempts will be your last.
