Keep trying norman, you don't need them, they are not your friends, they do not make you happy and they are shortening your life span.

Day 13 for me today and have barely thought about smoking, I never thought it would happen this fast!!

normanprice · 14/02/2006 20:14

Well done all of you succeding in kicking the habit . I have failed again today I think I will leave it until next week when dd1 is back at school and dp is back at work.

Tortington · 15/02/2006 12:04

day one. today

i have a patch. its itchy. i need boiled sweets. ( and a fag) no i don't

have fixed my bike. so i can get out and be doing something - cos i find the other times i have tried i cannot just sit there as i thik about smoking all the time .

i wake up its my first thought.

its so fking sad

am off work after today til monday. so hopefully i wont be so emotional.

am very emotional person anyway.

and not smoking makes me want to cry all the time. its like nicotine PMT.

good luck to me.

normanprice · 15/02/2006 12:19

Custardo WELL DONE keep it up it's worth it

canadianmum · 15/02/2006 14:24

custardo, stick with it, you will probably feel emotional for a few days and then you will be amazed when you no longer feel like crying over a pathetic smelly little stick.

norman - don't feel down on yourself, just pick a date, have your last smoke, throw everything away including lighters and ashtrays and start your life as a nonsmoker - YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Day 14 for me today, hurrah!! Very strange but DH is really struggling, claims he has felt ill since stopping and still has big cravings. I told him to give himself until the end of feb and he should feel much better. Do any of you long term quitters remember how long it took you to feel normal???

notasheep · 15/02/2006 16:56

Had a fag last night!!!!!!!!
Nicotine Monster used the excuse that it was valentines day.

What a mug me.Noooooooooooooooooooo Cravings today

Tortington · 15/02/2006 17:39

am still here and am still fag free.

today was my official quit day -and dh is doing it too.

however i only had one and half fags yesterday.

how long before the physical addiction is over?

i thought your system was clear after 3 days - how long is it?

charliecat · 15/02/2006 17:42

It is 3 days, 72 hours.

Thanks everyone for your encouragment. I can't throw everything away as dp smokes and has no intention of quitting. I live in a flat and we smoke in the kitchen diner (door shut windows open whatever the weather (brrrrr)) The computor and phone are in this area and I associate both with smoking. I'll have to get a bag of peanuts for future mumsnetting!!

normanprice · 15/02/2006 18:03

Well done custardo and Notasheep it was only a blip You can still call yourself a non smoker

Tortington · 15/02/2006 22:23

well the days nearly over and me and dh have done fucking brilliantly, last time it was so very hard, we didn't use patches, this time seems like a piece of piss.

we both commented how easy it has seemed this time.

must say i get a dreadful urge when driving the car

flutterbee · 15/02/2006 22:32

Hi everyone, still going strong here on day 39

Notasheep don't panic about it you have been doing really well, just don't think "oh well I have had one I might as well have another" keep strong and it will soon be forgotten. Bloody Valentines grrrr

Custardo and Norman well done for making the decision to quit, just think this time next year you won't be able to smoke when out and about so get a head start and do it now.

flutterbee · 15/02/2006 22:34

Custardo just saw you last post, I used patches this time and found it really easy after 4 weeks I came off patches all together and have lasted nearly 2 weeks now with no patches at all, it really made all the difference to me to have patches at the beginning.

GOOD LUCK AND WELL DONE

notasheep · 16/02/2006 03:39

Good Morning all!!! a bit early i know.

Thankyou all for your support.

Custardo and Norman-remember one day at a time.

Flutterbee-time passes quickly doesnt it?! Well Done.

The last thing i want to do is have a fag, feeling like a non smoker.Dp has his tobacco tin in lounge and i have NO urge to have a sneeky fag whilst no ones looking!

Tortington · 16/02/2006 18:12

day two nearly over. well ok another 6 hours. can honestly say have only thought about it sporadically, however did dream i was in pictures having a fag last night

canadianmum · 16/02/2006 20:30

custardo, hang on in there, the worst (first 72 hours) is almost over!

I spoke to a friend the other day who said that she found the 10/11 week mark quite difficult for some reason. Any of you long-termers have difficulties after the first few weeks??? Just wondering what to look out for .

2 WEEK ANNIVERSARY TODAY - HURRAH!!!

flutterbee · 16/02/2006 22:04

I have fab news, my Dad and Stepmum who both have been very heavy smokers from since forever have both quit my stepmum has not had a ciggie for about3 weeks now and my dad has quit for just over a week now. I feel really proud of them, now next time I take a trip up to Notts to visit them I won't dread taking ds into a smoke filled room. HURRAH FOR THEM [GRIN]

Now I just have to work on my Mum and Stepdaddy and all of us will ne Nicotine free.

charliecat · 16/02/2006 22:10

Bloody Hell everyone Keep it up

As a serial quitter, you do get to a point where your brain tells you its ok to have just one, youve got this far, its ok, you can ENJOY one without having to smoke the rest of the packet like those other fools who do it all day long.
DO NOT be fooled, thats how it all started in the first place....did you ever think you would get hooked to something that smelt so vile and made you cough so much?
I also know that if you get past these little blips you will feel a million dollars, and can I just say that even on a really shit day, its might be shite but its better than a shite day knowing youve got to spend the day smoking when all you really want to do is muster the strenght to stop.

Ive got my theory test tommorow AAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Tortington · 16/02/2006 22:23

oh god - good luck xxx

in answer to the question below - i quit last summer for 3 weeks. then i actually missed the social connection with my dh believe it or not - i missed sitting in the garden with him on tv adverts and just talking.

well got over that. as our smoking routine changed as the weather got colder.

cant believe i did 3 weeks!

and in 2003/4 i did a year. stress at work drove me to it. i was having the worst time of my life about then, not long moved missed my family and my job blew up in my face - i just couldnt cope. it seemed like my only relief.

this time "feels" different

its so fcking easy i cant get over it. i think about it less and less.

charliecat · 16/02/2006 22:24

I used to go green when dp was outside sharing fags with my friends but not me, the sane side of me could see it was RIDICULUS but still

Tortington · 17/02/2006 17:08

day three. today was harder. we went in yates for dinner and sat in the no smoking section - but after the meal i so wanted a fag. i mean really really really. so we bought some sweets from pick and mix instead!

charliecat · 17/02/2006 18:21

Well Done!!!!!!!!!!! Perfectly normal and acceptable to want one. Just dont have one is that art of stopping
For anyone whos not interested I must tell you that I got 35 out of 35 for my theory

notasheep · 17/02/2006 21:16

clever charlie!

kleist · 17/02/2006 22:30

Well done you clever puss.

And well done to everyone else quitting at the moment. I found that the first few days were fairly rough to be honest but it was the next couple of weeks that I found more of a test because it was then that it kind of hit me that this was it, the cigarette love affair was really over!
