[[https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/further_education/3313710-Class-of-18-nervously-waiting old thread]]

You know the drill though, that one needs to be used up first lowers glasses to give (behave Chocolate!)

Some of us already have btech results, some have unconditionals, but it's a nervous time for most. Lots of Wine Gin Flowers

Signing back in to join new thread after a few days in France. The roads around Paris are still in my nightmares - the Periphique makes the M25 seem straightforward.
Welcome back fantasy and welcome to new posters.
dd is still in limbo and applying for an apprenticeship. Hoping that A level results will help unlock this position. A bit annoyed that the media don't really mention other post 18 options other than uni.
In an email for a parents newsletter thing about results day, it mentions another option for the UCAS track thing that it's possible for dcs to be offered a different course e.g. a foundation course at the same uni. I'll see if I can post that link on here as some of you may find it helpful as another option.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 15/08/2018 11:57

kitten sorry you are not feeling good.
fantasy nice to see you back. I am sorry dd is continuing to have such a rough time of it though at least you appear to be making some progress with diagnosis.

DD had a weird dream last night though it is not obviously exam related. It involved people being eaten by giant flesh eating slug / caterpillar type things, and Dr Who.
In a previous dream one of her classmates got a T (for Troll as in Harry Potter).

catslife · 15/08/2018 12:00

This is the article from Twitter www.savemyexams.co.uk/blog/a-level-results-day-is-nearly-here-this-is-what-you-need-to-know.
Hope this helps some of you.

FantasyAndHope · 15/08/2018 12:03

Dd is calm and will take any place down south that is humanity based even if it’s buisness studies.
She has a list of courses all planned out ready to call. Which I suppose is better than not having a clue on results day.
Her insurance choice does a degree+foundation degree so I’m hoping they would offer her that.
Schools will have just got results now

TheThirdOfHerName · 15/08/2018 12:17

Thank you for the link catslife

prettybird · 15/08/2018 12:36

My Facebook timeline today is full of "1st Day of School" photos, plus on my "On this day" memories, a picture of ds' first day at secondary school 6 years ago (and a video of him walking off down the road, with one of our Siamese cats going to follow him starting a long tradition of us having to see him off at the bottom of the driveway in order to stop the cat following him Shock) Grin

It felt/feels strange that he's no longer part of that!

Blushah · 15/08/2018 13:45

Frustratingly, we know that many colleges have issued their BTEC results today already!

It appears they are allowed to inform students as of today, but DS1 is still waiting. A mate emailed their tutor who apparently says he's also still waiting. Argh!

I don't think the uni will firm his offer til tomorrow, although DS knows he has the grades (the beauty of BTEC- no nasty surprises tomorrow!).

But we still want to know. DS is hoping for DDD so he'll get a £1500 scholarship, but he 'only' needs DMM.

Janus · 15/08/2018 13:58

My lord, we’ve just found out dd’s college puts results online at 6am, we’ve been assuming it’s 8am all along and I just rang to double check! Can’t believe we could have been waiting for 2 hours extra!

TheThirdOfHerName · 15/08/2018 14:42

Just read on Twitter that today is National Relaxation Day. 😂🤣 🙄

Bakeandyarn · 15/08/2018 14:47

National Relaxation Day, they must be joking😂

HesMyLobster · 15/08/2018 14:51

Wow Janus that's good of them!
I wish we could find out that early.
DD's school doesn't open until 8:15 (no option except going in to collect)

We've had a slightly eventful couple of hours! DD's dance teacher rang to say DD had injured her leg at dance.
So I whizzed over there to pick her up, took one look at her face and thought "shit, it's broken" never seen her so pale and in so much pain.
dashed her to a&e (40 mins away) for X-rays etc. It's not broken, thank god! Nasty tendon damage so she'll be hobbling on crutches for a couple of weeks, but hopefully healed by freshers week thank goodness!
Home now and she's resting. It's put a stop to most of her plans for the next couple of days though - she's supposed to be going out tonight but don't think that will be happening, or her dance event tomorrow.Sad

Oh well, took our minds off results for a few hours!! Grin

Janus · 15/08/2018 15:02

Oh lobster what a fright, good news it’s not broken but still not what she needs for 2 weeks.
I rang the college (it’s just a college, (btecs, apprenticeships, a levels, etc) to check timings as we got an email with no timings on it (bit stupid!). I felt a bloody fool when I asked if it was 8am and she said no!! We are actually abroad as there’s no second option for dd so thought we’d might as well take a nice long holiday. Think we were a bit daft in hindsight as feel too far away but it’s done now! Dd feels physically sick today, she’s just ordered a cocktail by the pool and I’m just letting her have some time with dd2 as they get on very well and she cheers her up!

flatmouse · 15/08/2018 15:10

lobster glad it's not broken but poor DD, kind of scuppers her celebrating a bit unless you're hosting!

flatmouse · 15/08/2018 15:11

janus, we're 6am too. Very pleased as gives us 2 hrs to get ducks in a row before UCAS track/potential going into college for support/ringing uni.

Janus · 15/08/2018 15:15

Yes flatmouse, it is a bonus to get head around everything and then be ready for 8am track. Guess teachers don’t want to be in at 6am dealing with that?!! I wouldn’t!

LoniceraJaponica · 15/08/2018 15:37

Lovely to see you back here FantasyAndHope. I'm sorry your DD has had a shit time healthwise. I hope that they will be able to sort it. I hope her results are better than expected tomorrow.

Sorry to hear about your DD Lobster. I hope you feel better soon Kitten.

Ursula I'm sorry to see you go. I hope everything is OK.

I will feel like an imposter on here tomorrow as DD won't be going to university this year. I will probably have to start a gap year thread.

Good luck to everyone for tomorrow.

Hoveringhobbit · 15/08/2018 15:50

DS's school doesn't open till 9am and they don't offer any option other than collect in person. I wouldn't be a teacher for the world but it does seem a little late when some of the uni clearing lines open at 6.30am

How are you all planning on distracting yourselves tonight?

Petalflowers · 15/08/2018 15:52

Lobster, glad Lobster Jr’s Leg (claw?) isn’t broken.

Dc taken himself of to golf course again.

Oneteen · 15/08/2018 15:56

Just wanted to wish all your DC the best of luck with results tomorrow.. crossing fingers they get the results they need and so deserve...sending you mums - copious glasses of Wine for tonight !

2gorgeousboys · 15/08/2018 16:00

Sorry to hear about the injury Lobster. If DD is anything like DS, not dancing for weeks will be very disappointing (although as you say it's something different to worry about for a short while today!)

School opens at 7am here, no option but to collect in person.

DS is out with his girlfriend tonight which should be a nice distraction for him. DH is going for a bike ride so it's movie night for me and DS2 (and wine for me!!) to hopefully relax a little bit.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 15/08/2018 16:31

Thanks for the well wishes. Antibiotics to go on top of antibiotics. So today's distraction plan is now obviously not decorating and cinema. It's more netflix, hay day and sleeping.

That sounds nasty Lobster :(

OP posts:
DrPeppersPhD · 15/08/2018 16:32

Sorry to hear that Lobster,I hope she's not in too much pain with it Flowers
Just checked my letter and I can go in from 09:00, my friend and I have decided to go together (hopefully). I think I'm going to tidy my room this afternoon to take my mind off it.

Bakeandyarn · 15/08/2018 16:43

It’s feeling as if today has gone too quickly, panic setting in again now. DS is busy planning what’s happening tomorrow night, seems to be overlooking the bit in between, not sure if that’s a good thing or not. We are planning to go 8n for about 7.45, so will be up nice and early. I really hope we hear from universities before then.

Janus · 15/08/2018 16:52

We had an email from the (private company) accommodation that we’ve booked for our dd along the lines of ‘not long until we look after your dd, all you need to know’ today. I asked my dh if he thought they’d sent them out early by mistake!!! Wishful thinking I reckon but you think they’d send it out tomorrow!

mmmz · 15/08/2018 17:07

I've read a bit of this thread and the one before it, and i just wanted to post to send all of you my best wishes for tomorrow.

I think most of us on the GCSE thread realise that we are just in the warm up for the real thing, and it is your DC's results that really matter. It's hard for those of us yet to go through it to imagine what you must be feeling now. I hope your DC all get the results they need for their first choice.
