You know the drill though, that one needs to be used up first lowers glasses to give (behave Chocolate!)

Some of us already have btech results, some have unconditionals, but it's a nervous time for most. Lots of Wine Gin Flowers

Just had Facebook messages from a couple of DS1's friends who are with him at Reading. He has had his bag stolen, which had his phone and his bank card in it. Just trying to find out if it also had his house key and our address in it, in case we need to change the locks (again).

TheThirdOfHerName · 24/08/2018 09:55

Thankfully the bag didn't have his house key in it, and he has cancelled his bank card.

AtiaoftheJulii · 24/08/2018 10:14

Oh no! Stolen from his tent, or actually from him?

HardwickWhite · 24/08/2018 10:48

DD2 got an amazing set of GCSEs as did all of her friends. We are stunned. She's now enrolled in sixth form, and has made her A Level choices. I feel a bit sad for her that with this big change coming for DD2, all the focus will be on DD1 as she will move away the weekend before DD2 starts sixth form, and I will be hundreds of miles away with DD1.

Marmite I am sorry you will have so much to deal with. My very best wishes for a speedy and straightforward recovery.

TheThirdOfHerName · 24/08/2018 10:50

I don't know the details of the theft as I haven't spoken to him. Have had updates from his friends.

Hoveringhobbit · 24/08/2018 11:04

Well done to all who received GCSE results yesterday.

It felt very strange waking and not panicking as yesterday was the first time in four years that my DC were not receiving GCSE results. I just have one A leveller left (next year) with DD1 safely at Durham last year and DS1 at Newcastle this year.

DS1 has been decidedly unenthusiastic about preparations for uni but I am hoping that was because he was thinking about Leedsfest this weekend rather than any reticence about going away. Judging by the torrential downpour we have just had here, any DC at Leeds will be having a wet and muddy time. Can't wait for the washing on Monday...

I liked the things I will miss/not miss comments upthread. Mine are:

Like:
Having a full cupboard of glasses
Snacks that remain in the cupboard for longer than 30mins
No more manic shrieking at PS4
No more loud music in the house accompanying every activity
No bickering about who sits in the front seat of the car
Ditto seats at the table
Smelly sports kit

But I shall miss his sense of humour and empathy at unexpected moments. DDog will also miss her night time walks with her friend.

TheThirdOfHerName · 24/08/2018 11:17

HardwickWhite your DD1 needs you more for this next transition.

I'm sure your DS2 will be caught up in all the novelty & excitement about starting sixth form. You will be there for her in a few weeks when she realises what a jump it is to A-levels.

Downeyhouse · 24/08/2018 12:58

Sorry for you son Third. What a pain having to replace everything.

UrsulaPandress · 24/08/2018 13:06

I am so glad DD has not gone to Leeds festival this year. We have had several torrential downpours so it will be mudfest once again.

How awful getting his bag stolen Third.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/08/2018 13:15

oh no Third!
I've just warned dd to keep her vitals in a bum bag on the back of this when she goes off to a festival. I've sent you a pm.

DS1 has just texted from Leeds to say that his chair has been stolen from his tent and he's drenched (I don't think the two are related?). More rain to come looking at the skies...

UrsulaPandress · 24/08/2018 13:26

His chair? I'd be tempted to go looking and reclaim it.

DD has been for the last two years and fortunately never had anything knicked.

Knittinganewme · 24/08/2018 13:28

TheThird I'm hoping that this time it's a theft from tent rather than taking it from him with threats. I know they are both inconvenient but one has a greater opportunity for personal injury.

I found out how easy it was to change locks thanks to you, I saved a lot of money by doing it myself rather than having someone in to do the scary job (public service announcement - it's one screw on a UPVC door)

Some idiot decided to wash all the new bedding without checking the weather forecast. Yes that would be and yes, it is raining.

TheThirdOfHerName · 24/08/2018 13:38

I started getting messages via his friends at 9am, so I'm guessing it was stolen from his tent while he was asleep. Before he left, I did suggest sleeping with his valuables inside his sleeping bag.

The thief is going to be a bit disappointed with his or her haul:
Two year old Motorola phone with cracked screen.
Debit card which has been cancelled.
Provisional driving licence with a photo of DS1 aged 12.
Very little cash.
DH's old portable charger.
USB cable.
Used toothbrush.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 24/08/2018 14:00

Oh no, TheThird. Do inform DVLA as well. At least he can get a new one with a more up to date photo on. DS1 had a 10 year full licence with his 14yo picture on until we changed his passport and then shelled out for a new one.

HesMyLobster · 24/08/2018 14:05

Third it's obviously horrid having something stolen, but that list did make me chuckle! Grin
Thank goodness it wasn't full of valuables - sensible festival packing I'd say. Hope your DS is ok and his friends look after him/lend him a toothbrush!

It's quiet here now. DD2 had the gcse after-after- Party here so we had teens partying into the night. Then a morning of making endless bacon rolls and pancakes. The last of them have just left and DD2has gone for a nap.

Looking forward to DD1 coming home tonight - think she's enjoyed her London adventure living by herself in the city for a week. Sounds like she's made a good impression at the law firm too - they've asked her back for a full internship next summer so she's very excited about that.

DDs are off to their annual camp this weekend with the same friends they've been going with for years. This year is the first time boyfriends have been invited to go too so I just hope it doesn't spoil the dynamic.

TheThirdOfHerName · 24/08/2018 14:08

EllenJane last week he decided he was fed up with having a child's photo on his ID (sometimes pubs refuse to serve him because of it) and had already applied for a replacement (with current photo).

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 24/08/2018 15:27

Timing, TheThird. Grin

Knittinganewme · 24/08/2018 15:52

Congratulations to those who have survived GCSEs, I'm not sure I have the words for two sets of results days so close together.

Lucycat · 24/08/2018 16:36

DD is also at Leeds Festival- cold, wet and a bit miserable. I hope she's put any valuables into the safe locker....

OhYouBadBadKitten · 24/08/2018 18:26

Can I ask a question?

Does anyone else's dc have grandparents who haven't bothered to congratulate them? Just used the results for their own bragging rights on their own social media page.

I was pissed off with that after GCSE results. This time you'd have thought I'd have learned, but it stings even more. Messaging me privately to say 'yay, proud of her, pass on our congratulations' doesn't actually really do the job.

LoniceraJaponica · 24/08/2018 18:32

DD's granny has advanced alzheimers. I told her that DD did well in her exams but granny doesn't really understand any more.

TheThirdOfHerName · 24/08/2018 18:39

Parents and parents-in-law are all very good about congratulating the children on their achievements.

Both A-level boy and GCSE boy have received texts, good wishes, cards and money from various grandparents. I hope they appreciate how lucky they are.

UrsulaPandress · 24/08/2018 19:01

Well at least your DD has grandparents.

I'm triggered I tell you, triggered.

UrsulaPandress · 24/08/2018 19:03

Grandad did finance half a mac book from the far side.
