[[https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/further_education/3313710-Class-of-18-nervously-waiting old thread]]

You know the drill though, that one needs to be used up first lowers glasses to give (behave Chocolate!)

Some of us already have btech results, some have unconditionals, but it's a nervous time for most. Lots of Wine Gin Flowers

And Ursula I can totally see the appeal in going out rather than having small DC in the house!

voilets · 20/08/2018 20:25

Loved the idea of an off to uni shower - what a nice surprise. Might have a few mums and their dd around to celebrate and steal that idea.
I was given a really nice bunch of flowers on results day from DH for my part in DD's success - he chuckled like being mother of tbe bride!!

Truly sorry to hear about dogs and brothers. And congrats about stunning BTEC results.
I feel a bit of an interloper as I know this thread has been running a long time but I enjoy your stories and will post from time to time.

TheThirdOfHerName · 20/08/2018 20:43

Sorry to hear about your dog flatmouse

DS1 got his accommodation allocation today. It's not one of his six choices, but is the type of room he wanted and he's happy with the location.

chocolateworshipper · 20/08/2018 20:56

flatmouse I am very sorry for your loss

fantasy I am so sorry for your DD - she has such a hard time of it

Any of you that are worrying about missing your DC when they leave for uni - feel free to borrow DD. She is being an utter pain, but I do have to keep reminding myself it's because her anxiety is sky-high because she doesn't deal well with change.

FantasyAndHope · 20/08/2018 21:19

flatmouse
Apologies about your dog 😓 one girl at dds school lost 2 of hers during GCSEs
choc
Thankyou hopefully this is the end

Lucycat · 20/08/2018 21:45

OYBBK you've been buying nice outfits whereas my DD is wondering if she can wear her new Doc Marten boots to matriculate 😂

We did buy an academic diary from The Works for £3 though....

starfleet · 20/08/2018 21:48

third hope things are improving for your brother.

flatmouse - sorry to hear about your dog.

We too had younger ones around last week. Nieces (twins - nearly 5), nephew 1 (6) and nephew 2 (5). They don't like to sit still and they like to talk - all at the same time, all of the time. They are quite happy to play with DS's old Lego bricks and eat fish fingers.

flatmouse · 21/08/2018 09:48

Thanks all. Very hard, but it was time. DS struggling with it. DD seems to have compartmentalised.

TheThirdOfHerName · 21/08/2018 11:26

My brother is recovering well; now only using VPAP intermittently (which he was before this happened). His electric wheelchair has been brought in for him and the ward has a suitable hoist.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/08/2018 16:01

That's good news Third :)

dd has put a collection of photos together for us to print off for her noticeboard. She's talking about how she's going to decorate her room. It sounds positive. So I've ordered some wool and have been commissioned to crochet her a whole blanket before she leaves. Confused

PandaG · 21/08/2018 16:05

Offered DS a crocheted blanket - he doesn't want one - instead I seem to be knitting 12 feet of Tom Baker style DrWho scarf. 60 stitches x 12 feet of plain garter stitch! I going to be so bored!

TheThirdOfHerName · 21/08/2018 16:05

OhYouBadBadKitten how quickly does she think you can crochet? 😂

DS1 is supposed to be packing for Reading. What he is actually doing is singing and playing the guitar with his girlfriend. He can only just hold a tune and can play 3 chords. She has a lovely voice and can play pretty much anything by ear.

Knittinganewme · 21/08/2018 16:11

I am going to weave a blanket but seeing as he only decided on colours yesterday and leaves in three weeks I'm sure it will follow. News of the day is that he's found some of his flatmates and they are coming up with A Plan for the kitchen that avoids five frying pans and five can openers.

UrsulaPandress · 21/08/2018 16:14

I was going to get the dog printed on to some socks. And the horse onto a cushion. But I feel as if time is running away with me. It's all my fault for having the temerity to book a holiday. Apparently.

Bakeandyarn · 21/08/2018 16:45

It feels like there is such a lot to do! We don’t get accommodation confirmed until mid September which means we can only do so much now. I’ve bought lots of things but knowing what his accommodation will actually be would be good.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/08/2018 17:13

I know Third!!!! I'm only a beginner too. Done one blanket so far. I should have chosen a granny squares design then I could send on a square each week for her to stitch together as they arrive Grin

(stitch faster Mum, stitch faster, I'm freezing! 😂😂)

The dog on socks is fab idea ursula. Can I ask where you get that done? Wondering if it would be appreciated or too hard. Have done fave stables horse or blanket for DD before.

flatmouse · 21/08/2018 19:49

knitting that's good news. I'm hearing of others finding flat mates, hoping if I can just persuade DS to start reviewing welcome pack and looking at online portal he might get there too!
Break through today was him not shutting down when I suggested he should look at what is happening in freshers week as he may like to raid the fancy dress box!

UrsulaPandress · 21/08/2018 20:30

I'll find the link. Keep seeing it on Facebook. Probable as I only post lost dog stuff!

TheThirdOfHerName · 21/08/2018 20:45

I must post a lot about my cat, because I get adverts for print your cat's photo on socks

MsAwesomeDragon · 21/08/2018 21:20

Those socks are fabulous! I'm about to order some with my face on for dh's birthday. And maybe get some for various Christmas presents.

flatmouse · 21/08/2018 21:27

Thank you! Pricey, but endless fun possibilities- could get him a pair with me, DH and DD on Grin

MrSlant · 21/08/2018 21:43

Oh boy OYBBK, I'm going to recommend super chunky wool, a very big hook and trebles all the way. I made DS1a blanket for his 18th with a mind to him taking it with him, he's got a rug to match that he bought and it does cheer me to know he'll have familiar things in his room.

Was making myself a bowl of pasta earlier and thinking about him doing the same for himself away from home as a student gave me the major wobbles Blush.

UrsulaPandress · 21/08/2018 22:00

Oh stop it.

Sob.

YippeeTeenager · 21/08/2018 23:02

Spent the afternoon in IKEA today and survived! DD chose some lovely things (with gift vouchers that she asked family for last Christmas - great planning DD). She really needs a lot more clothes and shoes as she doesnt exactly love shopping and survives on the bare minimum so we’ll need to cross that bridge too at some point. Lovely to see her so excited about the thought of her new room.

Love the socks, might see if I can get DDog to pose. Matching pyjamas would be good.
