You know the drill though, that one needs to be used up first lowers glasses to give (behave Chocolate!)

Some of us already have btech results, some have unconditionals, but it's a nervous time for most. Lots of Wine Gin Flowers

I bought dog photo socks for various family members for Christmas. They were fabulous but took quite a while for delivery I think.

I've said before on her me how much I Love the crochet/knitting a blanket idea.
I have no idea how though - Perhaps I could teach myself in time for it getting cold and send to her as a surprise?

BagelGoesWalking · 21/08/2018 23:11

DD got her accommodation today and is now on Whatsapp groups for her halls and her Biomed course! Such a great app to get them chatting together before they even meet. Technology wins this time 😬

Bakeandyarn · 22/08/2018 08:30

I taught myself to crochet using YouTube and now I love it. It’s a great way to keep the anxiety at bay, although I am feeling very wobbly now. Results day seems a long time ago now doesn’t it? I keep waking in the middle of the night and worrying about how he will get his washing done, I thought the worry would ease once results day was over with but it’s just been replaced with a whole new set of worries.

Knittinganewme · 22/08/2018 08:37

adds laundry bag to list...

I've seen a video of his accommodation so have seen the laundry facilities, whether they charge an arm and a leg for their use is another matter (and not my problem).

bruffin · 22/08/2018 08:43

Blue ikea bags make great laundry bags but i decorated a canvas sack for Dd to take to Camp America with her favorite musicals

A lot of unis now have launderettes that have an ap. You can pay online and walk away and check on line when your washing is done, or what machines are in use.

bruffin · 22/08/2018 08:47

like this

MrSlant · 22/08/2018 09:11

DS' washing machine will text him when it's done! Ridiculous.

Bakeandyarn · 22/08/2018 09:11

The app is a good idea, DS’s uni isn’t on the list but maybe they do something similar? Maybe we should just all swap children so we still have one to look after for the duration!

TheThirdOfHerName · 22/08/2018 09:30

DS1's university (feels weird saying that as he hasn't started yet) uses Circuit Laundry. Circuit Laundry does have an app and card payment system in some places but his will be coin operated.

argumentativefeminist · 22/08/2018 09:40

Time for my Circuit Laundry top tips!! I've been saving these up 😂

  1. Use the normal wash settings, don't bother with superwash or whatever it is. I could never see any actual difference between the whites or colours settings either.
  2. If you want clothes properly dry, put only about a small armful of clothes into the dryer. Or you can put more, have them back slightly damp, then dry them properly in your room.
  3. If it comes up with an error code on the display part of the machine, push the door in - hard!. Same for if you can't open the door.
  4. Make sure you have £3 change to buy a card from the laundrette which you then use to top up online.
adrinkofwater · 22/08/2018 09:57

Where do you find out what kind of laundry the halls have?

BagelGoesWalking · 22/08/2018 09:59

"DS' washing machine will text him when it's done! Ridiculous." 😯 Wow, Mr Slant

bruffin · 22/08/2018 10:05

There are other companies , Dsuni isnt on the list but they had it

TheThirdOfHerName · 22/08/2018 10:11

Thank you argumentativefeminist I will pass those on!
I love the way that the Mumsnet community can provide advice for such niche issues Grin

argumentativefeminist · 22/08/2018 10:13

adrink If you go on the uni website, there is usually some sort of student life/student handbook section, that's the first place I'd look!

TheThirdOfHerName · 22/08/2018 10:14

adrinkofwater
The laundry company and details were in his induction stuff after confirming the accommodation. But they could probably find out on The Student Room.

GnomeDePlume · 22/08/2018 10:31

All this new fangled laundry stuff is amazing!

The laundry 'facility' in my hall was a single top loading washing machine with a mangle (electric!). Other halls had a twin tub (such luxury).

argumentativefeminist top tips!

Bakeandyarn · 22/08/2018 11:12

Nothing about laundry in his information pack, as far as I understand the halls are catered as there are only 3 kitchens for all the accommodation. We’ve got a little site map but can’t see the laundry bit on there, we are going for a visit in September when accommodation will be confirmed so will be able to have a nose round then. Funny the things we worry about isn’t it!

flatmouse · 22/08/2018 11:15

The funniest part is, if they're anything like mine, the DCs really don't care and will just figure it out when there Wink. I know I'm way too invested and should really step back!

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 22/08/2018 11:28

DS1 only uses the washing machines 3 x per term. The washing capsules I bought him 2 years ago are still going, he's used 18! skank

flatmouse · 22/08/2018 11:45

DS plans on playing rugby, plus course will have him doing physical exercise, plus gym. We were warned at applicants day that washing machines pricey but take large load, so plan is for lots of cheap clothes to wash less often.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 22/08/2018 12:08

Just buy lots of pants for them to last between washes! Grin

FantasyAndHope · 22/08/2018 12:23

Dds info pack doesn’t say anything about laundry.
In other news dd has rang from work in tears because her manager just speaks to her like shit
She’s made dd feel like she doesn’t believe her about her wound been infected. As dd is on light duties. The countdown is on until she’s home

Janus · 22/08/2018 13:46

Oh god I’ve just put a pair of socks with a photo of our 3 dogs in my basket too!! Haven’t actually checked out yet!
I’ve jus bought a laundry bag with handles so she can just sling it on her shoulder and just adding a mini clothes airer to our list of stuff! The radiators look more like storage heaters so not sure a radiator dryer would fit on unless those things fit on anything?
