You know the drill though, that one needs to be used up first lowers glasses to give (behave Chocolate!)

Some of us already have btech results, some have unconditionals, but it's a nervous time for most. Lots of Wine Gin Flowers

Just back in from a full on uni shop with DD2. Not too much in the housewares left to get. Some things seem to be selling out at the moment. Spotted a few parent/student combinations doing similar. Got to make up a list of household consumables next. It is all rather reminiscent of preparing for self-catering holidays.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/08/2018 17:05

I think we are mostly at the point where we can't buy any more cooking stuff until we know if dd will have access to a cooker, oven or even a microwave Confused and we don't know if she will have an ensuite or not either. But I'm feeling content that we've broken the back too.

Is it safe to come back?

What on earth is selling out? I'm working on the assumption that anything she is missing I can pop over with.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/08/2018 17:43

I think amazon might be handy Grin

Kitten I have an OH but we don’t live together but spend most weekends together.

We have lots of fri had so I will be fine.

Ds is on the spectrum and has adhd. This combined with hormones and a big attitude at the moment don’t make him the easiest person.

He will however be attending mums “sort yourself out son” come September!!
Just needs a proverbial kick up the bum at the moment.

One kind of forgets after having a lovely older teen how painful 14 years old is LOL
This too will pass.

Waves at Ursula

I have continued buying bits and pieces rather than one big shopping trip. This weekend's addition to the box: rubber gloves.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/08/2018 19:09

good idea, rubber gloves. How else can you go to a Rocky Horror night?

I want to know where DS1 will be living!

He is off to Reading on Wednesday; checking emails / accommodation portal will be far from his mind and he won't be back until next Monday.

DD has been on a shopping spree with her best friend to help her get kitted up for university. I think they bought the whole of Wilkos. She has been helping with lists for the bedroom, bathroom and kitchen for stuff she still has to get.

DD cooks and has been able to advise about what is needed in the kitchen. In fact, she is worried that when she eventually goes to university that she will be in catered halls, which she does not want.

MsAwesomeDragon · 19/08/2018 19:21

I have bought a couple of towels for DD today. That's it as far as uni planning has gone. My theory is that once I'm back at school she still has 4 weeks to get herself sorted with what she needs. I'll help her with a list, but she needs to sort out what she's got and what she still needs (because although a lot of it is in the under stairs cupboard, a lot of still in her bedroom and I don't want to investigate in there in case I'm eaten by mouldy food in the wardrobe or something!)

UrsulaPandress · 19/08/2018 19:42

We've managed coat hangers so far.

But dds phone has given up the ghost so all hell has broken out here

TheThirdOfHerName · 19/08/2018 20:17

After much faffing about, DS1 and his friends have left for prom. All their stuff is still here, so I guess they'll be coming back here to get changed before the after-party.

flatmouse · 19/08/2018 21:38

DS tells me he needs a spatula (for getting fish fingers off tray) and a slotted spoon (for poached eggs). Thinking apart from that small and large saucepan, small fry pan and sharp knife, tin opener, wooden spoon. Flat tray and tray with sides/depth. Hoping Poundland is useful!

GnomeDePlume · 19/08/2018 21:40

This is the first weekend after results day hence the shelves looking a bit bare. I am sure they will restock in time for the next payday. The thing to be aware of is that stocks will be limited.

Petalflowers · 19/08/2018 21:43

Fishnet stockings?!

Had inlaws visit this weekend, and both dcs appeared out of their rooms and were actually fairly sociable. Nice distraction from exams. Have eaten sooo much though.

Third. - glad your brother is recovering.

TheThirdOfHerName · 19/08/2018 21:50

Fishnet stockings?!
For the Rocky Horror night OhYouBadBadKitten suggested. Although I suspect that most under 40s haven't heard of it.

Petalflowers · 19/08/2018 21:53

Unfortunately, wrong sidemof 40, and the Rocky Horror show was the time for Rag events one year when I was at uni.

Lets do the Timewalk....

Thank you for your kind thoughts regarding my brother. He was moved to a general ward today.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 19/08/2018 22:19

That sounds positive, TheThird.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/08/2018 22:25

Is it too early to pack the toast?

OP posts:
HesMyLobster · 19/08/2018 22:27

Third, sorry to hear about your brother but glad things are sounding more positive now. That must have been very scary.

The most lovely thing happened yesterday.
Over the past 10 years or so most of my close friends have had babies, and I have thrown baby showers for all of them (I know mn generally hates baby showers, but for me an excuse to get together with friends and eat cake is always good!) We've has a running joke about it being unfair that I missed out because baby showers weren't really a "thing" 18 years ago.
So yesterday my friends (and DD1 and DD2) threw a surprise "your baby is going to university" shower! There was cake, a lot of wine and gin, and friends from all over the country, some of which I haven't seen for over a year!
They bought gifts for DD1 like stationary, a door stop, blankets, cushions, gift cards for Nando's and pizza express, and a beer pong kit, and for me gin, wine, tissues and a spa day!
It was so was completely wonderful and I am still a little bit stunned!

PandaG · 19/08/2018 22:29

Oh Lobster that sounds amazing! What fantastic friends!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/08/2018 22:31

oh goodness Lobster, wow! You clearly deserve it though, it sounds like you've been such a lovely friend.
