[[https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/further_education/3313710-Class-of-18-nervously-waiting old thread]]

You know the drill though, that one needs to be used up first lowers glasses to give (behave Chocolate!)

Some of us already have btech results, some have unconditionals, but it's a nervous time for most. Lots of Wine Gin Flowers

The Oxford hopeful at DD's school was predicted AAA or A star AA (I can't remember which) and ended up with ABB.

The history prodigy we've heard so much about?? Oh dear, sounded like there was a heavy weight of expectation on him. Hope he ends up somewhere he can be happy about.

FantasyAndHope · 18/08/2018 22:21

Thanks all
It’s weeping blood and slightly swollen she doesn’t feel ill besides tiredness from work.

TheThirdOfHerName · 18/08/2018 22:28

Sorry I've been absent today - had a bit of a busy day.

We hosted lunch for some old friends we rarely get to see (and their families). 6 adults, 9 children.

Then in the afternoon we had a wedding to go to.

I also found out today that my brother (who is severely physically disabled) stopped breathing, had to be rescusitated and transferred to hospital by air ambulance. He is in ITU now and is stable, but I spent an hour or two on the phone with relatives.

Then this evening I suddenly decided to make a photobook for DS1 to take to university (displacement activity) which I've now finished and uploaded.

TheThirdOfHerName · 18/08/2018 22:30

venetian25 DS1 still hasn't received his accommodation offer, despite getting into his firm choice university and submitting accommodation preferences in April.

argumentativefeminist · 18/08/2018 22:34

TheThird I hope your brother will be okay, thinking of you Flowers

Janus · 18/08/2018 22:59

Third , hope you have more comforting news tonight?
And Fantasy too, what a worry.
Our offer was completely conditional upon grades but we could decide and pay for accommodation in March. I assume we’d got our deposit back if didn’t get the grades but didn’t look into this as slightly superstitious!

Bouledeneige · 18/08/2018 23:07

Cats life - waving back!

It seems very subjective marking art subjects so I'm not sure what to think about the school getting a re-mark. The school has a very good reputation for Art so it obviously matters to the teachers as well. DD got a B - down from A star at GCSE and A at AS level. But I also think her work was not as good and she took the first part of the year off with extreme laziness. When we rowed about her commitment she ran off to the XH for 2 weeks. She has a place at foundation which was unconditional but will need to put the work in to strengthen her portfolio. So we arent having any accommodation/leaving home issues this year.

To other divorced parents - I share the worries about finances through university (I have another coming 2 years behind) so both will be there at the same time. I think XH will reduce his contribution to me to give to the children so I will face a big drop in income plus needing to match his contribution to their accommodation fees etc. Ive told them they will need to work but I will potentially be the mean one - hard really as I contribute way more than what he gives me!

Okay moan over. I'm thinking of getting a lodger to help my finances.
Meanwhile I wait anxiously for GCSEs.

chocolateworshipper · 18/08/2018 23:29

I'm so sorry for the late posting. I was away and able to read all of your news, but not able to post. Congratulations to everyone with good news. I hope everyone else will forgive me, but special congratulations to fantasy and bekabeech - I really do get how special your news is.

LoniceraJaponica I will miss you Sad I was hoping that we could all stay together, even though our DCs are following different paths, but I do get why you would prefer a separate thread.

raspberry I really hope that things work for DD. I messed up my A levels and had to do a HND rather than a degree, but it all worked out for me in the end. Sometimes things don't work out as hoped, but still work out ok in the end - I hope this will be the case for her.

Ursula great to hear from you again, and so pleased about your good news

truffle and majestic so pleased that things worked out in the end

Sorry if I've missed other significant news.

Finally - update for DD - Distinction stars for all 3 subjects! Was originally expecting 2 x D and 1 Distinction. Had an indication that the Distinction had been upgraded to a D but didn't want to say anything until it had been externally moderated. Grin She is really excited about starting her career in September.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 18/08/2018 23:29

Third what a day! I hope your brother is doing ok.

I finally got some decorating done. Decided painting one wall at a time was fine, so painted the most urgent wall. Survived ikea and put together some flat pack. The rest of the house has turned into a hovel.

TheThird I hope your brother is OK
Well done to your DD Chocolate

GnomeDePlume · 19/08/2018 07:18

If it isnt going to change the outcome in terms of uni/apprenticeship place is getting remarks done worth the wait?

DD2 is now taking the view that A levels are done with. They were a means to an end: securing her a place on the uni course she wanted to do. She still loves her subjects which is reassuring as her degree course is essentially an extension of all three (maths, physics, chem A levels leading to chemical physics degree course).

I am very excited for her. In a just a few weeks she will be moving out. Now need to get her starting to tidy her room. There could be some long forgotten tribes in there.

Knittinganewme · 19/08/2018 07:27

Chocolateworshipper what a stunning set of results!

TheThird just as we think we have the stress point behind us then something else hits. I hope he's on the road to recovery.

Ursula if it turns out that you miss shovelling I'm sure they'd welcome you back at the yard just so you could connect with old times and the wheelbarrow.

I have no news which is lovely, I would love to have a period where nothing at all happens.

PandaG · 19/08/2018 08:08

Third hope your brother had a good night?
Well done to ddchocolate, fantastic results!
Church and lunch with friends today, then DC are out with their friends. Chilled day I hope.

TheThirdOfHerName · 19/08/2018 08:29

Thank you all for your support, my brother has been extubated and is on his own breathing machine that he uses at home, which means he can speak. He wants to go home, but needs to wait for confirmation that he is medically fit to do so.

DS1 has his prom this evening. He had a haircut yesterday and is having friends over and they'll all go together in an Uber Luxe.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/08/2018 08:36

Church and more decorating here today. dd has decided not to come as she doesn't want people asking how she did. She's much more modest than her Mum Wink

I too would like some quiet time. I had my arm twisted into organising a pretty big thing on the bank holiday. Im massively regretting not being much more 'no' about it.

That's good news about your brother Third
DD has another get together with her friends today - breakfast at McDonalds and then Mama Mia 2.

It already feels like autumn now Sad

The third glad to hear that your brother is improving.
Chocolate fantastic results for your dd.

Church for us too this morning. I hope dd will cope with the questioning about results. I will have to hover more than usual I think.

Nettleskeins · 19/08/2018 10:41

That was a frightening cliff edge moment for you Third - you have a lot of people to worry about and care for, I'm full of admiration.

off to Ireland today.

Downeyhouse · 19/08/2018 13:38

Glad to hear your brother is improving Third.
What a week it has been.

I hope you can all enjoy some peace over the next few days.

We are still in the USA - back on 1 September and will have just 3 weeks to get ds ready for uni.

He flew out here with us and had gone off backpacking with his friend who had to wait 6 weeks to have his firm accepted. They are both so excited for the future and it is lovely to see them having these past days together before they go their separate ways.
Some of those goodbyes are going to be hard.

Ds attended an international school and his friends are scattering around the world. I will miss coming home and finding them hanging out or dropping in.

Have been a single parent for 10 years and ds is my chatty one who interacts all the time.

14 year old ds is at the staying in his room and grunting and rolling his eyes stage Hmm - will need to work on training him up to be more sociable!

TheThirdOfHerName · 19/08/2018 14:10

chocolateworshipper excellent results! 🌟

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/08/2018 14:40

Maybe he will come out of his shell when it's just you and he Downey.
Do you have plans to counteract what sounds like a potentially lonely time?

I'm going to miss dd so much. She is such a good companion.
