You know the drill though, that one needs to be used up first lowers glasses to give (behave Chocolate!)

Some of us already have btech results, some have unconditionals, but it's a nervous time for most. Lots of Wine Gin Flowers

Haven't RTFT but congratulations and best wishes with places and clearing etc. Have already seen many who have been offered really great alternatives if they just missed grades, so it seems there are a lot of options out there.

Just wanted to pass on a tip that someone posted on FB: DON'T forget to inform student finance if the uni has changed since the application. Otherwise, it will take longer to sort out and students won't get the grant when they need it at the beginning of term.

collywobble · 16/08/2018 15:44

I've been lurking on here and congratulations to everyone with some brilliant results.
My daughter missed her grades by 1 Mark she needed ABB to do law at Leeds but got A B C with an A* in her law Epq she rang her first choice Leeds straight away as they advised and was told they weren't taking any lower grades but her second choice is a BBB to study law which is lower. Her friend has been accepted onto a law course with a lower grade at Liverpool BBB even though the requirement was ABB as that was her first choice. Is it worth calling there even though they are not showing in clearing?

Janus · 16/08/2018 15:53

Sorry Marching, you are right, that was for NaturalBlonde, obviously being up at before 5am has caught up with me 😀! I agree with all you say though, not sure why HT would be interfering now.
littledrummergirl can I ask what grades you need for vetmed? My niece got A*, A, A and a C but has no clue what to do and hasn’t applied for uni, the only thing she’s ever thought of if vetmed so I could let my brother know if those grades would be enough.
Well done DrP you must be so proud.

LIZS · 16/08/2018 15:54

Yes worth calling, to eliminate the uncertainty. They may have some releasing places to go through adjustment or alternative plans.

Catching back up with everyone’s outcomes. So sorry Flowers that you and DD have got this stress. I can only echo others who have said not to make any panicky decisions or rush. Hopefully school are being supportive and giving advice where they can?

It’s been strange this afternoon, I was so sure DS would be in clearing that I was expecting to be supporting that.

LoniceraJaponica · 16/08/2018 16:26

It has felt strange today. DD went out with a friend this morning and turned up about an hour ago. Boyfriend has just turned up and they will go to the pub later. I took the day off and really I didn't need to.

I feel kind of flat now.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2018 16:40

I went for a walk as I'm totally wired/exhausted all at the same time, so just going to catch up with people.

I think it's really normal to feel flat. All of that adrenaline and their anxiety chemicals suddenly get switched off and leave a void (totally unscientific, but ykwim)

Hoveringhobbit · 16/08/2018 16:40

Same here lonicera feel a little surplus to requirements so am enjoying a lovely warm bath!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2018 16:40

and I can't even write now.

OP posts:
Nettleskeins · 16/08/2018 16:49

kitten you must have been living on adrenaline for a long time now, hope there will be some sort of peacefulness which will take its place, and you can do something for you, because you are very important too, as well as dd.
Haudin I am absolutely loving the idea of the Congratulations Cake. Now why did such a thing not cross my mind, all this stress but no congratulations, just people arguing with each other about who thought what and who was going to fail or hadn't worked hard enough to merit confidence in their abilities..cake or flowers, I need to do something to say, well done for doing those exams whatever the results, it was hard going just to do them at all. Although I am really pleased with ds too, it must be said. His Grade 8 singing just came through with a distinction.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2018 16:49

Really really well done to everyone who is happy with their results, for those hunting for the new perfect fit. Flowers They will find it, sometimes we just need to take a slightly different path from the one planned, but different path equals new and unexpected views.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2018 16:56

I think you are right Nettle. I need a little quiet ahhhh time.

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2018 16:59

That's an amazing grade Nettle!

What about takeaway tonight? Nothing says well done like takeaway of their choice! Grin

I dithered over which box of chocolates conveyed my feelings best, decided the biggest ones I could find probably said it all.

OP posts:
Blushah · 16/08/2018 17:01

nettle congrats to your DS! My DS2 got his AS today, too (and an important BTEC unit mark); it was happiness all round! A for the Geog AS, Distinction for the unit.

As DS1 dryly remarked just now- these are his first academic results that we're all genuinely really happy with. He missed 8/10 of his GCSE predicteds by a grade apiece 🙄; bombed his A levels at AS (DEU)... but here we are. He needed DMM in his BTEC, he got D* x 2 and D.

And.... breathe 😂

Blushah · 16/08/2018 17:06

And OYBBK regarding finding 'a different path'- yes, a thousand times over.

We get very caught up in 'doing it right, first time'- right being the right A levels at the right grade. We all see the leaping swishy- haired blonde girls whooping on the front page of the papers (tho check out the BBC news website, something along the lines of wheeling out the A level cliches every year 😊)....

But if I hadn't fekked up my A levels in 1980, I'd be a geography teacher now! Instead I'm a - oh, never mind 😂

FantasyAndHope · 16/08/2018 17:10

Dd is shattered I’m shattered. Accommodation is through
Dd is working full time next week and really doesn’t want to

collywobble · 16/08/2018 17:13

She tried both unis on the off chance that there may be something available on the law course but they were full but nothing ventured nothing gained. She's happy enough with her insurance choice so that's the main thing.

PandaG · 16/08/2018 17:15

Fantastic Blushah! So pleased to hear he got there a slightly longer route. Brilliant

TheThirdOfHerName · 16/08/2018 17:37

Apologies if someone has already mentioned this.

If your child is going somewhere other than their original firm choice, they need to update the details on the student finance website. Otherwise there will be a delay in the student loan coming through.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 16/08/2018 17:38

Just catching up on the thread since early this morning - wow! Too many names to mention but congratulations to all those DC off to their unis of choice. Kitten fab news & thanks for getting us all through this. Raspberry big hugs & Flowers right now & to all those DC who are disappointed today with their results - with all their determination so far I am sure good things will come their way still, but maybe just in a different form. Ursula do pop in for a chat & to let us know how your DD is today.

DD picked her grades up & we have had a mad morning filling out forms to confirm her grades as she is definitely doing her degree apprenticeship & has informed her Uni to release her place now. So, now we can celebrate her success & her results - we are ecstatic & so chuffed for her. Like all our DC, we want the best for them, but equally important, is to be happy too. Now for some GinWineCake for all of us - it's been a slightly surreal day.

MsAwesomeDragon · 16/08/2018 17:41

Takeaway of their choice for dinner sounds like a good idea for all of us, regardless of results.

We've felt a bit flat this afternoon as well. I've ended up doing school work!!!! We couldn't leave the house because we had a bed being delivered, which DD is currently attempting to build upstairs (nothing says we're proud of you better than building a bed).

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2018 17:41

That's so brilliant, Congratulations to your dd lashings!

OP posts:
OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2018 17:43

I hope it looks like a bed at the end MrsAD!

I'm desperately trying to stay awake, as dd is out with friends and probably will be until late tonight I have no idea how to stay awake so we can pick her up. Might need to delegate that one to dh seeing as he got a proper nights sleep last night. Envy

OP posts:
lashingsofgingerbeer · 16/08/2018 17:46

Thank you Kitten Smile Hope you're feeling better today & can celebrate with DD too.

MrsAD the bed building comment just made me laugh - back to reality! Grin
