You know the drill though, that one needs to be used up first lowers glasses to give (behave Chocolate!)

Some of us already have btech results, some have unconditionals, but it's a nervous time for most. Lots of Wine Gin Flowers

Raspberry
a few years ago was in the same position, he took a year out, school were brilliant and let him come in as an external student (not enough hours for proper funding) and he applied again and got a better offer from his firm the year before and 4 new offers including an unconditional. next year he got his ABB . H e chose a different Uni in the end.

FantasyAndHope · 16/08/2018 12:45

I agree with Lizs
Don’t rush take time.
Possibility of a foundation degree? Or consider other routes
Alternatively take a gap year and travel experience life and possibly do a resit at the same time?

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 16/08/2018 12:47

Can she look at similar but not quite the same courses? Is it maths? Can she look at maths and physics for instance. Then maybe transfer once in?

LoniceraJaponica · 16/08/2018 12:52

Did anyone's DC take AQA A levels? The mark sheets don't show what DD scored, just her grades. The Edexcel one gives her marks, and she got a very comfortable A for biology (8 marks short of an A*)

MarchingFrogs · 16/08/2018 12:57

@Janus, I was responding to NaturalBlondeYeahRight's report that their DD's head thinks that she could 'do better' than CardiffSmile. My point was exactly, where does the HT consider to be a better university and has the HT actually found a better university that is both taking part in Adjustment and offering a course which is right for the young person in question?

Ignoring the RG bit, I can't think of anything I've heard tell that Cardiff is truly awful for and it appears to be where NaturalBlondeYeahRight's DD actually wants to go, which is what really matters in my book. She's the one who's going to be spending the next x years of her life studying there, not her HT.

Oh, and yes, I have been to open days. Lots. And campus tours. One DC already at uni, one current looking for 2019. Admittedly Cardiff not one of them, but I did used to have to go there for work purposes in a former life and wouldn't let one totally mad academic put me off an entire institutionGrin.

AQA were not clear. I emailed the school and they gave me a full breakdown. DD is I mark off the next grade.

Is it worth a remark?

raspberryrippleicecream · 16/08/2018 13:12

Coconutty thank you, I will pass that on.

Its quite a niche subject she wanted to do and had set her heart on. Bottom line is she either compromises on the subject or does resits, I guess.

I have had a bit of a cry for her after she went out with DH for a bit. She's just texted to say she will probably go to her friends after that. Friend got into Oxford today so is being very good friend.

Anyway am thrilled for all the DC with better news

ellaballoo · 16/08/2018 13:13

What a morning ! DD has done much better than expected- we are going through the joy of adjustment .

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2018 13:15

Ah Raspberry Flowers take your time over it. I know it feels s though the pressure is on, but it's important that she feels she finds the right place. It sounds like you are getting some good advice.
On a crappy phone signal again.

MajesticWhine · 16/08/2018 13:18

Phew. DD has accepted an offer of a different course from her 2nd choice uni. It's a good outcome really as her grades were way off.
We have GCSE results next week for DD2 -someone pass me theGin.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 16/08/2018 13:20

Reporting in late as my ancient phone doesn't do internet.
Dd got into Edinburgh her first choice and had one grade higher than she needed. So huge relief all round.

Congratulations to all those who have got what they wanted. Especially to fantasy's dd and mrslant's ds.

Sympathy to those who have missed their offers. It is a really hard day for them but hopefully with time they will find the right way through.

littledrummergirl · 16/08/2018 13:45

What a morning- Ds1 did really well, his teachers suggested he contact the university and ask about moving on to the 5yr vet med course rather than the gateway. He was a bit dubious as he was happy with gateway course.
We got home to a message from the university asking him to call them which he did and they offered the 5yr course. We are ecstatic here.
Thank you all for your support, yes it was us with the fire, there is a plumber here fitting the large appliances as I write. Many reasons to celebrate.
Now to work out how adjustment works. Grin

Petalflowers · 16/08/2018 13:52

Nohaud - see you in Edinburgh (although doing higher apprenticeship, not uni).

Have you packed the thermals! We keep comparing the weather up in Scotland compared to down south, and notice it’s generally a few degrees cooler. Everyone I have spoken to say it’s a lovely place to live.

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 16/08/2018 14:09

NoHaudin I was waiting for your post! Very well done your DD! I know getting your first choice is good news for anyone but with all your preparations necessary it's even more important your DD will be going somewhere that will suit her. StarStar

DrPeppersPhD · 16/08/2018 14:17

I got AAB for my A-Levels and A for my EPQ. I was 1 mark off an A for my English, so my teacher wants a remark. Even so, it's not too bad, I might still get a grant from my Uni if I can sweet talk it, and I got 100% on my retake unit. Could be worse.

Saffkat · 16/08/2018 14:25

DS still awaiting decision from his first choice as he dropped a couple of grades. He's spoken to them and they said to send them his results to consider (?) so we're in limbo here. Anyone else had experience of not getting a decision on the day results come out?

TheThirdOfHerName · 16/08/2018 14:32

Well done DrPeppersPhD

NoHaudinMaWheest · 16/08/2018 14:35

Thanks ellen. Yes we have already done lots of preparation and couldn't realistically start from scratch at this stage.

petal yes Edinburgh is colder than down south, mainly due to the wind.
We have multiple layers of clothing and bedding prepared as dd feels the cold a lot due to her relative immobility.

catslife · 16/08/2018 14:49

dd has now gone out to celebrate with her best friend.
A note for those considering remarks - please bear in mind that for A levels it's possible for sixth forms to request to see copies of the actual papers before making a decision. Usually teachers only request this if there are obvious errors in marking at this stage. Being one mark away doesn't guarantee the grade will go up. It means the grade is unlikely to go down but it may not be worth it.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 16/08/2018 14:52

That's really good DrP :)

I'm a bit restless, struggling to focus on the threads at the moment. Need tea and maybe a walk into town to clear my head a bit.

Aminta18 · 16/08/2018 15:01

Hello everyone,

Have been following this thread for many months, sometimes so reassuring , other days kept away when feeling nervous for DD! But my 2nd DC has got into uni and with both DC it wasn't clearing and all the extra angst that can cause so my commiserations for those going through that but I do know many people who've done so well through clearing!

I am delighted for my DD but last night I read a post on one thread that said there were lots of near misses in results and they sounded authoritative so I really wobbled Grin and turned off all threads till now.

My DD has wobbled a bit, felt a lot of expectation pressure and when she went to school some friends were crying and she had her photo taken amongst them by the Head as one of the top achievers - this really embarrassed her.

Anyway thanks for all your stories - wishing all your DC a good out come and congrats to those who are settled. It is consoling to see so many DP feel so caught up in their children's ventures - I'm feeling twitchy already as I try to let go in a few weeks ! Smile

We all need Gin and Wine tonight and maybe a few of you like me need some sleep. I was up at 4am ! But didn't tell DD - tried to act casual.Wink
Best wishes Flowers x

GnomeDePlume · 16/08/2018 15:01

Thrilled for your DD NoHaudin.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 16/08/2018 15:16

Thanks Gnome.

I have a huge list of things to do - dd goes on 5th September but can't focus on any of it.
I am going to re-read Pride and Prejudice and (maybe fall asleep), then bake dd a congratulations cake later.

Nettleskeins · 16/08/2018 15:23

raspberry have you considered G---g-w if your dd is doing the course which is slightly older than some (sorry I'm being elusive) I think they would accept ABC from a UK applicant and have an excellent "old" department/museum associated with it?
