You know the drill though, that one needs to be used up first lowers glasses to give (behave Chocolate!)

Some of us already have btech results, some have unconditionals, but it's a nervous time for most. Lots of Wine Gin Flowers

Haven’t hD time to read all the updates yet, so hopefully everyone had some okay.

I joined the weird dream brigade last night, as I dreamt I bumped into someone from school, who,i haven’t seen for years (but am Facebook friends wifh).she said that she was pregnant, and it was weird, because she woke up,fine with a flat tummy, but by lunch time she had a bump and was pregnant. She also mused she turns 50 this year. I remember feeling a little jealous that she was going to have another baby! Not quite sure what that all meant.

raspberryrippleicecream · 16/08/2018 10:24

Congratulations to all those with fab results.

DD is in clearing and is crushed

Petalflowers · 16/08/2018 10:26

Also woke up with a headache this morning, which is unusual for me.

Results update - mixed.
Initially thought he had ABC. Then realised he had two maths score, one B and One C, and realised one was his As resit. Therefore think his score was a C which was okay.

However, economics was a C which he was puzzled at, as. He was an A student, or B on a bad day. Waiting for a phone call back from school (didn’t Want to hover around school with everyone coming in). Going check the scores, and maybe get it re-marked. He is slightly disappointed by a C, and definantly puzzled by it.

However, should be fine for his apprenticeship, and he got a ‘well done’ from his uni choice which cheered him up, even though he doen’t Intend to go there.

iPad needs charging so will sit down and catch up,with all the news later. Time to tidy the house for The Royal Visit (in laws) this weekend (only time you see dh doing housework!).

I'm sorry to hear that Raspberry. Hopefully it'll work out for the best and she'll get a fab uni from clearing.

nettleskeins great news!

Madcatperson · 16/08/2018 10:34

Well done everyone. My son has got his first choice which is great - on one of his A levels however he's only 6/375 marks off the next grade up . As he's got in, would there be any value in asking for a remark to try to bump up to the next grade (c to a b)? I imagine it may look better on CVs etc, but I guess 6 marks /2% is quite a change and in the scheme of things is it worth asking? Any experience of remarks with aqa much appreciated!

GnomeDePlume · 16/08/2018 10:40

Congratulations to everyone who knows what they are doing next and positive thoughts for people who have next steps to work out.

MsAwesomeDragon · 16/08/2018 10:43

I'm so sorry raspberry. I hope your DD finds a course she's happy with. Flowers

spababe · 16/08/2018 10:44

First choice uni for my DS who has managed to pull it around after a bit of a disaster last year . Congratulations to other DC on here

Janus · 16/08/2018 10:47

Raspberry, was she far off? I’m sure she will find somewhere, I really hope so

Nettleskeins · 16/08/2018 10:52

raspberry where did your dd want to go originally? There are so many wonderful courses and unis in Clearing but people have told me that the whole process is just so stressful, ESPECIALLY on results day that it is difficult to feel the love for the "choice" offered. I know a friend's dd who got into Manchester and another who got into York for very popular "traditional" subjects through Clearing.

The whole remark thing is so stressful too. Does she know which subject is the issue?

derekthe1adyhamster · 16/08/2018 11:15

DS got his firm even though he missed his grades by 1. Grin

Nettleskeins · 16/08/2018 11:22

ds has just said...you all thought I was going to fail, but I didn't..I must say as a bunch of mums we were all quite doubtful of our children making their first choices. Perhaps mothers just prepare for the worst.

I cannot believe it, now a row is erupting because ds is saying he didn't work hard but still got the right grade, and dh is getting very cross. [because we have obvioulsy been suffering from worrying about his exam performance for so long and trying to get him to do some revision]Today of all days to have an argument about motivation and I told you so. I hope it is just stress and lack of sleep. Angry

Help, DD did much better than expected. Head said she should go for a better uni than Cardiff but she really liked wheat

Trufflethewuffle · 16/08/2018 11:51

DS2 has got a good place at Bath Spa for English. Closer to home and he is really happy.

DS3 is having a good think and we will go through various options later.

What a day.

What 'better' university does the HT have in mind? And do they know for certain that a) it offers a course that your DD will find suitable, details-wise (not just 'you want to do Biochemistry and university X does Biochemistry', or whatever) and b) that said university / course is available in Adjustment?

Janus · 16/08/2018 12:01

Marching, not sure what a better uni would be? Did you do open days etc and like it? I think you have to also go by a ‘feel’ and where dd would be happy. We looked at Cardiff and were very impressed.

TheThirdOfHerName · 16/08/2018 12:04

raspberry hope she's able to find a course she's happy with

EllenJanesthickerknickers · 16/08/2018 12:10

'Better than Cardiff' for what subject? It's a Russell Group uni and highly regarded. Not Oxbridge maybe. It depends on the subject to a certain extent.

Blushah · 16/08/2018 12:22

Am delighted for DS, got first (and only!) - choice.

It could be argued he could do 'better' seeing as he scored 160 UCAS points (8 off the 3 A* 'A' levels, being 168) but it was a BTEC, and the RGs wanted a A grade Maths A level which obvs DS didn't have!

He's fine with it, and has the knowledge that he should find Y1 easier going as he has been studying his subject full time for 2 years now.

If he's happy, so am I!

Petalflowers · 16/08/2018 12:31

Update - maths a Comformed C which he was happy with, and the resit was a B.

Still puzzled about economics. Spoke,to,the school who also said it was lower than they anticipated. He results were middle of the boundaries. We could get the papers remarked, but all three would have to be remarked, and it would cost £120, (although you do,get money back if grade changes

In my day, you didn’t know your score. You either got an A, B , c or whatever, and accepted that. I think it made it easier.

Well done to everyone who,got their firm places, and hoping all those who are wading through plan B, C or even X are not too stressed, and getting things organised.

raspberryrippleicecream · 16/08/2018 12:33

DD got ABC. Lots of drama over the A - it was originally a B for Maths, but the units have beein rearranged so she now has an A. But school got her to ring firm and insurance to see if it made any difference - it didn't.

All the courses she has tried in clearing wants ABB and have rejected her. with one exception which she isn't sure she wants.

I don't know what else to say to her. Resits are an option

FantasyAndHope · 16/08/2018 12:37

I’m so sorry Rasp has she thought about changing her location? Going further afield?
Hugs to you both Flowers

raspberryrippleicecream · 16/08/2018 12:40

Unis looked at cover 500 miles!

LIZS · 16/08/2018 12:40

Raspberry it s important she does not rush into an overhasty decision under the pressure of the day. Those are still good results, is taking a year out and reapplying an option? Are any of her other choices in clearing? What subject?

raspberryrippleicecream · 16/08/2018 12:40

Thanks for the flowers
