Not the end of the threads, just this chapter of life. We'll keep going, don't worry!

However! Not to be used until this one is done

It's been a strange day here. Ds1 has spent time with dh, they walked into town and bought some clothes.
Ds2 is doing NCS and has been away since Monday. I'm looking forward to seeing him tomorrow.
Dd was on a school trip to London today as well so she has come back full of excitement. She was asleep early for her though.

Good luck for tomorrow Shanghai.

HesMyLobster · 06/07/2018 07:48

Good Luck Shanghai, thinking of you and your DS with everything crossed! 🍀

Downeyhouse · 06/07/2018 07:54

Not long now Shanghai

Fingers crossed he sails over the finish line and Is straight into his first choice.

Some of ds friends narrowly missed their grades so are now having to contact their Uni choices and lobby for a place (they submit their own results and use the chance to write emails hoping to still be considered).

Looks like a stressful situation and some have been told they must wait until a level results day to see if they can be taken or not.

Hoping all our kids don’t have to scramble for places.

fatbottomgirl67 · 06/07/2018 08:30

We're waiting for IB results too. 2.30 today, please keep your fingers crossed for us🤞I feel a bit sick to be honest. Dd fast asleep !!

Downeyhouse · 06/07/2018 08:39

Adding your dc to the good luck wishes list fatbottom.

Very surreal day the hours dragged until the results came and life changes in a blink of an eye.

I told ds results day is one of the few true turning point days in life. The results you get set you on a specific path and lead them to a certain city and certain friends who they may still know 30 years from now.

It is monumental and emotional day in many ways.

ShanghaiDiva · 06/07/2018 13:22

Results are in - 43. Needed 38 for his offer so Warwick university here we come!
Very proud of as he got a 6 in higher level maths, which is horribly difficult and he was the only non--Asian in his class.

catslife · 06/07/2018 13:49

Well done to your ds shanghai particularly for the Maths result.
I guess it's time to start making plans for your ds coming to the UK in the autumn which will take some time.
Am sure you are relieved and happy that the way forward is now clear.

derekthe1adyhamster · 06/07/2018 13:57

43 is a fabulous result! Well done him

fatbottomgirl67 · 06/07/2018 14:11

Well done Shanghai we're still waiting arghhh

LoniceraJaponica · 06/07/2018 14:45

Well done to your DS Shanghai. Good luck fatbottom

NoHaudinMaWheest · 06/07/2018 14:46

Congratulations shanghai. That is a seriously good maths result.

ShanghaiDiva · 06/07/2018 14:56

It's going to be a big transition for him as like downey's son he has never lived in the UK. We will be in China for another 2 years so it's going to hard being so far away. Good news is his girlfriend is going to Sheffield uni and my mum and pils are in UK.
Good luck fatbottom - ds said the IB website had crashed so hope you managed to get results.

fatbottomgirl67 · 06/07/2018 15:21

Web site kept crashing ! Highers 7 maths 7 physics 6 chem !!! Thrilled to bits got her place at oxford🍾🥂 92% in her maths 42 overall she's so so pleased . It's over thank god we can now breath again

Knittinganewme · 06/07/2018 15:24

Congratulations to both of you. For the rest of us it's the long wait for A levels now.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 06/07/2018 15:27

fatbottom congratulations to your dd. Excellent results.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 06/07/2018 15:27

Shanghai & fatbottom fantastic results all round for your DC! Time to celebrate now 🍾🥂👏🏻

ShanghaiDiva · 06/07/2018 15:30

Congrats fatbottom - what a brilliant maths result!
Ds will be in awe of your daughter!! Is your daughter studying maths at Oxford?
Ds is studying accounting and finance.

LoniceraJaponica · 06/07/2018 15:32

Well done to your DD fatbottom
I don't understand the IB marks, but I assume that since she got her Oxford place that they are extremely good.

Are there no parents of students on here who aren't as high achieving (such as my DD)?

In the meantime DD has decided that she categorically doesn't want to go to university this year as she really doesn't know what she wants to do. So we will have to do some more uni visits in September (sigh).

I am so ready for her to move to the next phase of her life, and she really isn't.

I have told her that she must get a job and must learn to drive if she doesn't go to university.

ShanghaiDiva · 06/07/2018 15:44

Lonicera
IB is marked out of 45 - 7 for each of the 6 subjects you take and an extra 3 marks for the extended essay (4000 words) and theory of knowledge course which is assessed by a 1600 word essay and presentation.
I know your daughter applied for medicine which is incredibly competitive. One of ds's best friends got his result today - 44 for the IB, but only got one offer out of 4 for medicine.

fatbottomgirl67 · 06/07/2018 16:21

Thanks Shanghai we are so proud as you must be
They are very lucky to get there results now and have a stress free summer. She's reading physics rather than maths but the two are very closely linked so helps to be strong in both. Happy summer ahead

UrsulaPandress · 06/07/2018 16:22

Congratulations!

TheThirdOfHerName · 06/07/2018 16:27

Well done to both the IB candidates who got results today.

fatbottomgirl67 DS2 hopes to apply for that course to start in 2020. He is already talking about how to prepare for the PAT.

fatbottomgirl67 · 06/07/2018 16:38

The third dd spent a lot of time doing old pat tests. The last paper was quite different so well worth a look. The maths questions were apparently very hard. Hope he gets lots of support from school too

fatbottomgirl67 · 06/07/2018 16:41

Lonceria your dd is probably wise to take a year out. If your not sure it's a hugely expensive path to take. There are so many oppertunities out there these days I hope she finds a path she wants to follow

chocolateworshipper · 06/07/2018 16:57

Massive congratulations shanghai and fatbottom
