Not the end of the threads, just this chapter of life. We'll keep going, don't worry!

However! Not to be used until this one is done

Congratulations Shanghai and fatbottom.
That's some brilliant results. Some serious preparation for you now though.

HardwickWhite · 06/07/2018 21:36

Did anyone else sneak a peek at clearing today? There were a couple of interesting options for DD. I’d still love it if she stay within a drive, so will have a proper look before D day I think!

LoniceraJaponica · 06/07/2018 21:38

I was trying to find courses in clearing, but am not sure how it works. I went on to the UCAS website but it isn't clear what is available. Can you send me a link please?

starfleet · 06/07/2018 21:39

Congratulations to both your DC's Shanghai and fatbottom!

Lonicera - DS isn't compared to many in his year. He did well at GCSE but has had to work so so hard at A Level and has struggled at some points. We wait with baited breath for results day.

HardwickWhite · 06/07/2018 23:39

You can fiddle about with clearing from here I think Lonicera Search If this doesn’t work I will try again from my laptop tomorrow.

HesMyLobster · 07/07/2018 00:05

Wow!! Huge congratulations Shanghai and Fatbottom!! Sensational results!
You must both be incredibly proud - enjoy the well earned celebrations! 🎉 🍾

Downeyhouse · 07/07/2018 00:39

Congratulations to Shanghai and fatbottom juniors.

Great results and good they both have secured places at their first choices.

Hopefully we are on a roll and all the dc will be delighted with their results.

We had ds graduation ceremony tonight. Snazzy affair with the prime minister delivering the main speech!

Lots of clapping and smiles and thankfully the room’was Air conditioned,

Champagne reception afterwards - we left at 10:30 and the sky was still slightly might and it was still 29c! .

Tomorrow is the prom which parents attend too.

Now it is time to sleep.

Night all

LoniceraJaponica · 07/07/2018 08:38

Parents at prom wouldn't go down well here. The students tend to overdo the alcohol. DD's was on Tuesday while England were playing. The atmosphere was electrifying when they won.

TheThirdOfHerName · 07/07/2018 09:14

History seems to be offered in clearing nearly everywhere (not including top 20 universities), including DS1's firm choice that he probably won't get the grades for. What remains to be seen is how far below the offer they'll be willing to drop for him.

HardwickWhite · 07/07/2018 09:27

DDs subject isn’t in many places for clearing, but those that are are mainly the same grades as her firm and insurance. She did spot one though that was a contender for her application and said it would consider close grades. She is going to make a little list of possibilities. She is also humouring me by putting a couple with driving distance on it.

I do think though that if she doesn’t make her offer grades bit will be because of the state of her mental health and not ability though and so a different path in the short term at least may be better. I think I’ll do some quiet research so that only if need be, i’ll Know what i’m Talking about.

She is talking about going up to Pride today because one of her friends is playing in a band there. It sounds like enormous fun. Joining in something with friends would do her the world of good.

Downeyhouse · 07/07/2018 11:18

Lonicera they have the prom and dinner with parents and then a fleet of buses whisks them away to a nightclub so they can party onto Dawn leaving the parents back at the prom which is when take 80s hits come on! So we end up having a party away from them too :)

raspberryrippleicecream · 07/07/2018 17:25

Brilliant news fatbottom and Downey.

I don't know about clearing last year, but DS1's year 2 years ago, in the few days between the unis having the results and Results Day, you could see clearing offers being lower, DS's course went from A*AA to AAB.

DD's insurance is in clearing, we didn't expect her firm to be as it usually opts out of clearing,

GnomeDePlume · 07/07/2018 21:18

raspberryrippleicecream that is interesting about clearing grades. If I understand it correctly there is still a bit of a demographic dip plus the change in the exam system. It does seem to be creating a lot of uncertainty for the unis.Hence the unconditional offers I guess.

DD is now drawing up her clearing list. She has applied for Chemical Physics but is looking at maths, physics or chemistry if she ends up in clearing.

It is all very complicated depending on if she drops a grade or two and in which subjects. She is now creating a spreadsheet.

UEA (insurance) have invited accommodation applications so DD has submitted that.

Only 6 weeks until A level results

PandaG · 08/07/2018 06:44

Congratulations on such fantastic results!

Downeyhouse · 08/07/2018 10:30

Ds had his prom last night
Great night.

Had to swoop into the city at 6.00 am to pick him up from the after party!
As we are too rural for an early Sunday morning bus.

He is fast asleep and I don’t expect to see him again until tonight!

Off on holiday with his friends on Saturday.
I hope all the talking dc are having fun and staying safe.

Downeyhouse · 08/07/2018 10:53

Travelling not talking dc!

UrsulaPandress · 08/07/2018 14:31

Dd is having an absolute blast on holiday. Don't think she is getting much sleep but hey ho. You are only young once

starfleet · 08/07/2018 16:15

DS seems to be enjoying his holiday too. They were at a "paint party" until the early hours...

OhYouBadBadKitten · 08/07/2018 16:41

That's lovely Downey :)

We are at the mopey now what stage. I'm not surprised, I'd be the same if I were dd.

OP posts:
NoHaudinMaWheest · 08/07/2018 18:13

Dd keeps saying she doesn't know what to do with herself. I caught myself almost saying 'haven't you got any work to do?'

LoniceraJaponica · 08/07/2018 18:16

Haven't heard from FantasyAndHope for a while. I hope everything is OK.

starfleet · 08/07/2018 19:21

NoHaudin - DS literally said the same thing last week. It does seem strange to find him downstairs catching up on TV rather than shut up in his room.

PandaG · 08/07/2018 19:41

DS is on his gold d of e expedition at the moment, otherwise he would be wondering what to do with himself. I'm just a little concerned about him wild camping and walking at height in this heat!
