Not the end of the threads, just this chapter of life. We'll keep going, don't worry!

However! Not to be used until this one is done

Well done to your DS Downey that's great news!

Knittinganewme · 04/07/2018 17:25

Congratulations Downey, I'm really pleased for you.

TheThirdOfHerName · 04/07/2018 17:26

DS1 is about to leave for a rock festival in Belgium. He left all the packing until today.
I'm still at work and won't get home until after he has left. DH is working away until tomorrow.
I don't think I've ever received this many texts from DS1 in one day:

'Where is the suncream?'
'Do we have any more antihistamine tablets?'
'Do we have a sleeping bag?'
'Where is my passport?'
'Will I need Euros?'

catslife · 04/07/2018 17:35

Well done to downey ds. Still can't quite get my head round a system where you finish your exams and receive results a few days later!
It is nearly 4 weeks since dd finished now and still have a long wait ahead.
She has been to a careers fair today which she found helpful.
I have some duty free sparkling wine left from our last holiday in France in case supplies run low.
Hope shanghai hears soon.

Fantastic news Downey !!

chocolateworshipper · 04/07/2018 17:56

Wow - absolutely fantastic Downey ! Well done that DS.

HardwickWhite · 04/07/2018 18:00

DDs leavers assembly has passed with only a few quiet tears when she won a subject prize. I decided to think about a neighbours very fat old Westie terrier every time I welled up, and it worked! Grin She has had an incredibly difficult year and I am so very very proud.

She’s off out for a meal with friends now, and then the pub. This is how letting go works isn’t it?

NoHaudinMaWheest · 04/07/2018 18:47

Congratulations to your dd Hardwicke. I hope she has a good night out and you can indulge your (justified) pride in private.

marmiteloversunite · 04/07/2018 19:42

Fantastic news Downey! what a relief. You must be so proud. I hope you have a great night celebrating!

Knittinganewme · 04/07/2018 20:06

TheThird It's not just my DS then. We are off on a beach holiday and I seemed to be totally unreasonable in checking that he had a hat, sunglasses and a pair of swim shorts that fitted. I knew where each of those was which is more than he did. He got too much sun at the weekend because my suggestion of the hat, suncream and the sunglasses was dismissed instantly. Maybe the next time he'll listen, maybe one day he'll think of it for himself.

GnomeDePlume · 04/07/2018 20:26

DD2 seems to be leaving school by degrees. Last week was leavers' assembly and prom. This week was a pizza lunch with staff. Next week books go back but as they are old spec maths no one including staff is really sure if they want them.

At this rate they will still be pottering back and forth until results day.

TheThirdOfHerName · 04/07/2018 21:18

Knitting I find it helps if I think of DS1 as an apprentice adult, who has not yet completed his training.

UrsulaPandress · 04/07/2018 21:42

DD has managed to get a UTI on her first day of holiday.

I despair.

starfleet · 04/07/2018 21:49

Congratulations to your DS Downey! How brilliant and now he (and you) can enjoy the summer.

No infection around teeth or gums just the wisdom teeth coming up. X-rays taken and dentist sent him home with a prescription for numbing gel and told him to make sure he had anti inflammatory tablets and paracetamol to hand.

Knitting and TheThird - not just your DS's. Mine thinks the suitcase packs itself. He kept bringing things to me as a cat would a dead mouse or the like and thinking it would magically be packed away. He has about 3 million disposable cameras because he didn't want to take "any of my good ones", 2 hats and 15 pairs of socks - he is going for 7 days. I despair.

UrsulaPandress · 04/07/2018 22:06

Socks? Socks? Where on earth is he going?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/07/2018 22:10

That's not good Ursula :(

dd is a pretty hopeless packer too. She has forgotten various items.

Lack of drinking water apparently. Arrived too late to go shopping. So went out and drank vodka. She has been to see a medical person who proscribed tablets which have improved things. And water has been purchased.

But they gave not yet drunk ouzo. What is the world coming to?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 04/07/2018 22:16

ugh! ouzo.

Just been out with DH for a stunning meal - 7 course taster menu with paired wines. Not our usual midweek dinner by any means, but we got a Groupon deal, and are trying to find 25 ways to celebrate 25 years of marriage. Going to be hard to top tonight's treat though, the food was stunning!

Hope medication kicks in quickly for DD Ursula.

UrsulaPandress · 04/07/2018 22:23

Oh come on. You can't go to a Greek Island and nit drink ice cold ouzo. On a beach. Looking at the sunset over the sea. As a gentle breeze ruffles your cheesecloth maxi against your freshly shaved and newly sunkissed calves.

TheThirdOfHerName · 04/07/2018 22:25

DS1 has been to Reading & similar but this is his first trip abroad with no 'proper' adult.

His biggest worries are no phone signal and becoming separated from his friends. I tried to point out that in the days before mobile phones, young people did manage to attend festivals and also managed to travel a lot further afield than Belgium.

TheThirdOfHerName · 04/07/2018 22:26

PandaG that sounds lovely.

marmiteloversunite · 04/07/2018 22:33

Ursula I think you are dreaming of Shirley Valentine, not really the ideal 18yr old's holiday!GrinGrin

starfleet · 04/07/2018 22:38

Hope your DD is Ok Ursula. That's a bit pants on her first day away.

DS is going to Greece. No explanation re socks. Apparently he needs them. He is already laying on bets as to which friend will forget something vitally important before they even get to the airport in the morning. I have a feeling he will spend a fair bit of time herding up his drunken friends like sheep......

Downeyhouse · 04/07/2018 22:46

Hope the UTI clears soon. Miserable things.

I like the idea of an adult in training!

Asked ds and his mate to make our 4th July pudding - not hard out red fruit and blueberries and blackberries in a bowl and add ice cream! Much pfaffing about and asking where spoons are kept. Confused

I hope the festival in Belgium goes well.
We are close to the Belgian border - football fever has gripped the country! I hope he has a great time :)

Well the British grandparents roll into town tomorrow for graduation and so our emotional busy week continues :)
