Not the end of the threads, just this chapter of life. We'll keep going, don't worry!

However! Not to be used until this one is done

The fire is being hailed as the biggest in living memory. I remember in 1976 the peat self ignited and took forever to extinguish but that was more of a smoking from deep underground in sporadic places. Which will probably be the same with this in the coming weeks. This started on the surface and spread like, erm, wildfire. NASA pics show that the smoke has now reached the Irish Sea.

There is a report from a farmer in the Manchester Evening News about the wildlife which I am avoiding reading.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 27/06/2018 17:27

oh goodness Ursula.

That is very impressive Lobster!

DD has been offered a proper full-time job. She's not 100% sure she'll take it and wants to wait and see what happens with another employer next Monday, but it's the first FT job she's gone for, so very impressive that she beat the other 8 candidates.

marmiteloversunite · 27/06/2018 17:47

We have had another life skills day.DD has sorted the washing, washed it all and dried it etc. Then learnt how to iron. I hoping she will not just chuck everything on the floor now she knows how long it takes to iron something! She even has a burn on her finger to prove her rite of passage!

Off to London tomorrow to sort the visa for China. Not looking forward to hours on the train and tube in this heat!

marmiteloversunite · 27/06/2018 17:48

That's brilliant chocolate!! What a confidence boost even if she decides not to go for it!

UrsulaPandress · 27/06/2018 17:58

Wow Chocolate. Well done your DD.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 27/06/2018 18:52

Chocolate well done to your dd.

Knittinganewme · 27/06/2018 19:09

Chocolate she's done really well, congratulations to her

Downeyhouse · 27/06/2018 19:39

Congratulations to your daughter chooclate.

Enjoying all your stories of life skills teaching going on. Ds (if he gets the grades) will be in a catered hall. So the only skills he needs will be laundry and bathroom cleaning.

Gives me another 12 months to sort his zero ability to cook. Smile

Still plodding along here.

Next oral exam tomorrow afternoon.

Today I ended up helping to get ds2 GCSE options changed. Feels like the first step in a new long journey Confused

Wishing Ursula a fire, smoke and ash free zone around your home and horses.

Hope the op went well Mr S.

PandaG · 27/06/2018 19:46

Well done to your DD chocolate!

DS has cut the grass, tried on his prom outfit all together, and hung out a load of washing. I think he spent the rest of the day gaming. Fair enough really!

littledrummergirl · 27/06/2018 20:42

Well done chocolates Dd. Hoping they get it under control Ursula.

Mrslant, good luck for today, I hope it went well for you. I'm sure everything will be fine at home- dc have a habit of stepping up when needed (even if they make you pay later).

Downey, we have a similar problem with Dd GCSE choices. The school have had two thirds of the year choose one of Dd options so the teachers have held individual talks with the students to find out how they feel about swapping to their second choice.
Dd was very unhappy about this and was brave enough to say so. I really hope they listen to her or its going to be a nightmare!

PandaG · 27/06/2018 21:17

Well, I just had a bit of a window into what it is like to be the parent of a student. We are part of the student team at our church, and as such host students for meals and meetings, help out at events, and generally provide a listening ear. Today one of the students has asked if she can move in for the weekend as she is in between rentals (yes no problem), then another asked if we could store her stuff over summer as she has to go home by train. One huge carload later, our shed has a pile of boxes, and there is a pile in our dining room which will move to the boxroom after first student moves out on Monday!

MsAwesomeDragon · 27/06/2018 21:41

That is fabulous chocolate's dd!!!! Well done to her!!! What sort of job is it? It's fantastic to have 2 interviews and utterly brilliant to be offered one of them.

TheThirdOfHerName · 27/06/2018 22:40

Congratulations to her chocolate

DS1 seems much better now that exams are finished. He has a book return day & leavers' lunch on Friday.

lashingsofgingerbeer · 27/06/2018 22:47

Gosh a lot happening on here lately! Really glad to hear everyone finished now - nearly there now Downey!! We have really been demob happy since finishing here & just enjoying each day & the fab weather! DD has felt a bit lost last few days with no routine & novelty of going out 24/7 now costing more money! She's been applying for jobs since giving up her Saturday job in April, but nothing yet. Suggested she wash the car in the sun & she enjoyed doing it - suggested she do ours tomorrow Grin

Ursula heartbreaking watching the news about the fires on the moors - shocking! Do stay safe. MrSlant wishes for a speedy recovery Flowers Chocolate fantastic news on DD & job offer! Lobster I blame Love Island for a lot of things! Hmm

starfleet · 27/06/2018 22:51

Well done to your DD chocolate - even if she decides not to take it what a massive confidence booster for her.

Hope all goes well with your op MrSlant.

I've just been watching the news coverage on the fire. I hope they manage to at least get it under some control. I can't imagine how the land/animals will be affected the longer it carries on burning.

I'm leaving this here for you all:-

Downeyhouse · 28/06/2018 03:17

Starfleet - dutifully took a screenshot for ds thinking gosh how useful! Then took a closer look before sending it to him. Thank you for the Laugh.

Smile
marmiteloversunite · 28/06/2018 06:55

I just did the same Downey! GrinGrin

Downeyhouse · 28/06/2018 07:42

Smile Marmite

Glad I am not alone

Philosophy oral exam today - the one he has been dreading! Did not help that his teacher has been off sick for 3 months Confused

HesMyLobster · 28/06/2018 07:48

Congratulations to your DD Chocolate, that's fantastic!

Ursula I've just heard the reports that the military have been sent in to assist firefighters, I really hope that makes the difference and they can get it under control.
Hope you and the animals are all safe.

DD did her first evening shift behind the bar last night. She's been doing the Sunday lunchtime shift since she turned 18, but a proper evening shift seemed much scarier somehow.
She enjoyed it, but 6pm -1am seems awfully long to me! She'll be shattered today. I will too - she told me not to but I waited up until she got home safely. I can't keep doing that if she's going to have 3/4 shifts a week!

HesMyLobster · 28/06/2018 07:49

Panda that's very good of you, those lucky students having you to help them!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/06/2018 08:02

Good luck to your ds Downey!

I did send dd a screenshot, I figured she would find it rather funny! I'm not sure she has noticed yet that clothes come with washing instructions.
