Not the end of the threads, just this chapter of life. We'll keep going, don't worry!

However! Not to be used until this one is done

DS had a postcard this week from where he'll be going in September. I thought it was nicely judged, not too gushy and I thought better of them as a result. It was totally wasted on him though.

I'm still sitting by the virtual pool, I thought about organising a virtual excursion to a historical site. Would we like five hours on a coach or another day chilling by the pool? The sign up sheets are over by the hammocks, don't all rush at once.

(In real life, the chimney sweep is coming)

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/06/2018 08:41

let's do a little more chilling Grin

I'm helping dd mad blitz her room when she gets out of bed, followed by a few hours of work.

I am crying with laughter at the washing machine stuff Grin tbh I love all the programmes on my washing machine. Am longing to find an excuse for the 95 degree programme. Our kitchen used to have an actual boiler for washing in 1905, I feel quite nostalgic for mangles..

was feeling anxious but you have saved me!!

party here tonight, I feel more anxious than any exams made me...Confused Ds is noticeably brightening up as party approaches. I tried to get him to go down to Oxford to look at the Brookes accommodation before he decides and he said, oh but I cannot I have to prepare mentally for your party!! (not that he is helping in any way to actually prepare, but the other two will. Dd is hanging out a friend's fairy lights)

What can I use as canape bases?? Which doesn't involve shopping or magimixes??

Nettleskeins · 28/06/2018 11:35

Actually i know what has made me anxious. Ds2's A level preparation which he brought home yesterday from Induction Day. 6 Essays including German Revolution, Henry VII, Theresa May, Devise a Drama Piece based on a Real Play. I seriously am wondering whether A levels are possible. I cannot take it!!! He is asking for a Reading List.I've found one which makes me calmer on the Historical Association site but seriously...this is not "the chilling by the pool" that I imagined...

aargh..

UrsulaPandress · 28/06/2018 12:09

Is the coach air conditioned and does it have an on board bar and toilet?

Asking for a friend.

MrSlant · 28/06/2018 14:08

Bread for canape bases Nettles, either crisped up (or even built up into classic 'vol au vent') or you can toast it. split the slice into two full pieces and toast again for melba toast. No need for fancy shopping!

So many grown up children out here with the laundry and cooking and jobs! They seem to be blossoming over night. How amazing.

Thank you for all the good wishes, I am in my borrowed bungalow (not being used holiday cottage) recuperating. Not allowed to do anything for two weeks so I am here whilst DS runs home. When I got back DS1 had filled me a paddling pool to keep cool and then turned up with a pasty for my lunch. Lovely boy! Sod passing exams he can stay home and help me with all the hard work Wink. I am all spinny but in a nice way, strugging with typing though Grin

I vote for another rest day too, care to join me round the paddling pool?

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/06/2018 15:17

oh yes please MrSlant. I'm so pleased that they are looking after you.

I feel a bit traumatized by helping dd. We've not actually finished yet, but she's taken herself off to the opticians. (hurrah!) I always thought she was a very neat and tidy soul so I have no idea how she managed to stuff so much crap into all of her drawers and desk. We have filled an entire large recycling bin and almost all of the wheelie bin. She ended up on the bed while I just tipped stuff out on top of her.

oh my goodness I'm cream crackered! I've still got work to do and I'm helping her with hair and nails tonight for tomorrow's prom.

Tortilla chips another suggestion for canape bases, or cut wraps up and bake?

DS has prom tonight, and announced a couple of hours ago he had an invitation for pre drinks...I had offered to host here if he wanted, but he wasn't proactive. Better still we are invited too, will be good to get a few photos with his mates. I'm also glad I managed to persuade him into a haircut, he was really shaggy with hair down to his shoulders and complaining about the heat, but never tying his hair up. I said of course it was his choice, but it might be nice to make a bit of an effort, and more importantly it would be much cooler!

Downeyhouse · 28/06/2018 19:20

Evening all,

Glass of white wine in hand -
Feet up and watching the football with my German OH! England’s newest supporter.

Ds had oral exam no 2 today - Philosopy. Says he got lucky with the question. And it went «really well».

DSs Has gone into the city to meet up with his class at the fan zone. So glad he needs to unwind a little.

Then it is onto the LAST EXAM ON MONDAY!!!

PandaG · 28/06/2018 20:00

Feeling a little bit weepy after seeing DS and his mates all suited and booted and off to prom. Hoping they keep in touch. They friend who turned 18 today has an offer at the same place as DS, it would be lovely if they ended up together...

PandaG · 28/06/2018 20:00

And wahooo Downey, the end is in sight!

starfleet · 28/06/2018 20:38

Counting down with you Downey!

It will be a week tomorrow since DS finished. He has been at work some of the days but otherwise he is wandering around the house a bit aimlessly as said he doesn't quite know what to do with himself.

Prom tonight for DS too - he said it was too hot and he couldn't be bothered as he felt like he was melting. He would rather have been watching the football.

Downeyhouse · 28/06/2018 20:41

Whoever booked the prom on the night England age playing!!! Confused

Hope all the prom goers have a great evening though.

GnomeDePlume · 28/06/2018 20:43

I vote for staying by the paddling pool. We are on holiday for real this week. A week of quiet pottering on the allotment, done wonders for my sun tan!

Glad to read you are recuperating MrSlant. Get well soon.

DD2 is off at a theme park with friends today. They drove off at the crack of dawn without any need for me to wake her up! Hopefully DD2 will be persuaded to start tidying her revision stuff away tomorrow. I am hoping to get my study back as DD2 has been colonising it for the duration.

We survived our 'dress for prom' shopping trip. The impact on my bank balance wasnt too great!

OhYouBadBadKitten · 28/06/2018 20:45

Nearly there Downey!

I hope all the prom goers are having a lovely evening :)

Thank you all for the congratulations Smile It's a job in the field she wants to work in, but a low salary. They've given her some time to think about it.

I wish you a speedy recovery mrslant I've always read your name as "Mr Slant" and have only just realised it could be "Mrs Lant"

I think the prom organisers assumed that England wouldn't get this far Wink

LoniceraJaponica · 28/06/2018 21:15

Dd is safely back from her first holiday sans parents. We had better weather in South Yorkshire than she had in Lanzarote! Prom is on Tuesday.

NoHaudinMaWheest · 28/06/2018 21:41

downey almost there.
Hope all the proms go well.

marmiteloversunite · 28/06/2018 22:29

Hope all the prom goers are having a ball!! (See what I did there?!)Wink

DD and I got to London, sorted out her visa at the Chinese embassy and got home in one day. Not bad from the South West of England. So relieved that all the paperwork went through. She just has to collect her passport next week when she is up there with her friends.

Tired now!

PandaG · 28/06/2018 23:28

Aw, DS just messaged to say he is off to an after party. He is not a party goer at all, so pleased he has been invited!

starfleet · 28/06/2018 23:35

I've just had a video message from DS lamenting the fact that no one seems to know who ODB is and they don't appreciate good music. He makes me laugh.

I have no idea what they are all doing afterwards apart from staying in the city and possibly going to a club.

LoniceraJaponica · 28/06/2018 23:37

If DD gets to go to an after party it will be in someone's field. I doubt that they will want to go to a club. At 17 he probably won't be able to get into one anyway.

PandaG · 28/06/2018 23:50

DS is at a house party, his mate happens to be the daughter of the head of maths st their school, I'm pretty sure she won't stand for too much nonsense!

PandaG · 29/06/2018 08:25

Well, he got home at 3.30 apparently - we have an arrangement that he texts once he gets home if we have gone to bed. Not seen him yet today!
How do you negotiate nights out etc now they are older? Up until Monday (ie exams finishing) we had expected him to check arrangements with us, and negotiate a time to be home by if later than 11/12. He was expected to let us know of changes of arrangements, again checking with us to avoid clashes with family plans etc.
We are now navigating new expectations as an adult, so rather than asking us if he can stay out late, telling us he will be late, preferably before we are likely to go to bed, letting us know if he will miss a meal, and just checking with us there are no clashes. He knows his friends are always welcome at ours, but we would appreciate notice if possible - just to give me chance to fling a hoodie on if I have changed into PJs and no bra for example!! DH and I run our individual plans past each other most of the time, with a rough eta, not asking permission but out of courtesy, and that is the tack we want to develop with him now.
We ate also expecting him to do a couple of jobs round the house each day, and cook the family meal a couple of times a week, as he does not have a job. Does that sound reasonable for someone who will hopefully be leaving home for uni in September?

starfleet · 29/06/2018 08:37

DS came in at around 5am. Woke me up, gave me a quick run down of his night and took himself off to bed.

He will need to catch up on his sleep as he has the evening shift at work tonight!
