Not the end of the threads, just this chapter of life. We'll keep going, don't worry!

However! Not to be used until this one is done

Up making bread to go with home grown French onion soup for lunch.

After that off the allotment to retrieve said onions and water what wasn't wasn't watered yesterday.

No idea what time DD2 got in. I woke up at 4am so that may be the time!

Knittinganewme · 26/06/2018 10:40

I was going to be smug and say that I'd been to the gym but class A had been substituted with class B so I came straight back (after having a little word at reception because this is not the first time it's happened). This afternoon I'm going out to talk to people that I'm not related to, that will be a novel experience.

I am now in water saving measures, I run the tap into the bowl while waiting for the water to run hot for the dishes and put that water on the bamboo/grass/whatever. I have two water butts but they are slimline ones, the light rain showers in the forecast for the start of next week will be no good even if they happen because until the roof is soaked there is no run off.

UrsulaPandress · 26/06/2018 11:14

1500 acres have been burnt/are still burning apparently. Started deliberately by off road bikers breaking onto the land, riding around then starting a fire. Everything is covered in a layer of ash this morning and we are being told to keep our windows and doors closed.

It was really odd yesterday evening as the smoke which had been rising into a clear blue sky all day, suddenly descended into the valley as twilight fell.

Off to the Temple of Doom aka The Trafford Centre today to watch DD do some holiday shopping. Go me.

HardwickWhite · 26/06/2018 11:57

Oh my goodness Ursula that fire looks terrible. Holiday shopping is a special kind of hell - though not as bad as prom dress shopping I suppose. Good luck!

UrsulaPandress · 26/06/2018 12:17

My loins are girded. At least at the Trafford Centre there is plenty of random seating and hopefully air conditioning, or is that wishful thinking?

I've actually got changed out of my mucking out garb into floaty linen for the first time this summer. DD is driving. I may partake of an alcoholic beverage and make her do the horse herself this evening.

Oh hang on, she has never really driven on a motorway so I had better keep my wits about me.

GnomeDePlume · 26/06/2018 14:23

We are braving Milton Keynes tomorrow. They will undoubtedly trip about lightly while their fat old mum (aka The Money) trudges after.

On the other hand I could stay in the car and read my book and only sally forth when they have found the right thing.

Thankfully DD2 is after a dress for a prom rather than a prom dress IYSWIM.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/06/2018 14:38

I hope the shopping is going well!

It occurred to me that I ought to get dd to try on her dress for friday just in case. Only I can't til Thursday now. Yikes.

I thought I'd clean our living room, It needed it. Noticed the windows were filthy, cleaned them. Then realised that it still wasn't much lighter cos the giant bush in front of it had grown much bigger. dh found me teetering on top of our step ladder trying to chop it down.

Then I decide that the pelmet in the living room is stupid, annoying and blocking light. So I gave it an experimental wobble. dh stopped me just in time before I ripped it and therefore the curtain rail down.

hmpff. He did have a point though that it would have got very messy at that point.

Where are the moor fires Ursula. We have a lot of moorland (I live near Woodhead Pass), and all is ok so far. I expect the fire service are on standby just now anyway.

DD is in Lanzarote and was disgruntled to find out it was hotter here yesterday.

UrsulaPandress · 26/06/2018 15:33

Started at Buckton Castle and spread back to Saddleworth moor above Dovestones. Heartbreaking. We had several at Dovestones started by bbqs last month but this was bikers up in the tops over towards tintwistle.

PandaG · 26/06/2018 17:00

Been shopping with DS today - shoes, shirt and tie for prom...£80 later...so glad he didn't also need a suit as he has inherited three from a friend who is no longer quite as slender! Only needed a new shirt as he had cufflinks for his birthday and wanted very much to wear them, and he has borrowed smart shoes from DH in the past, but the more trendy pair the sole split and were not worth repairing. He will probably need them for smart dinners at university so hopefully a good investment!

PandaG · 26/06/2018 17:01

And sorry to hear about the moor fires, so awful they were started deliberately.

UrsulaPandress · 26/06/2018 17:59

Just got home from shopping trip and the flames can now be seen. Having a quiet cry for all the poor lost wildlife.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 26/06/2018 18:24

Oh Ursula that is so sad. Is your home safe?

LoniceraJaponica · 26/06/2018 18:43

Just seen smoke coming from the moors. I don't know what possesses these people who start these fires.

UrsulaPandress · 26/06/2018 19:13

We are completely safe. The fire is in the moors across the valley. There's a canal and a river between us.

Year 13 support thread - The End.
HardwickWhite · 26/06/2018 19:16

Goodness Ursula you really are having a lively time. I hope the idiots who started that are caught and go to prison. Angry

UrsulaPandress · 26/06/2018 19:20

Slap on the wrist for the last lot.

I'm afraid I'm wishing a worse fate upon them.

Just reading reports of mountain hares and their young burning and a roe deer running back into the flames.

Anyway. Successful shopping trip and excellent motorway driving from DD.

Chenin Blanc anyone?

MsAwesomeDragon · 26/06/2018 19:38

The moor fire looks and sounds awful. All that wildlife!

Dd has managed to get herself involved in the school play that she was absolutely not going to get involved in after the effort involved in year 11. She is now part of the "lighting team" and will be at school for rehearsals every afternoon for the next 2 weeks, then performances the week after that. She's left!!!! I think she doesn't want to leave and is just trying to extend her time at school.

She has also just announced that she's got tickets to a festival at the end of August and she's sure she told me she didn't!, and did she mention that it's just her and 2 boots sharing a tent Hmm (a 9 man tent with 3 bedrooms apparently). It's not a music festival though, it's a geek festival (called electromagnetic field, I quite fancy it actually) and it seems quite civilised as festivals go.

MsAwesomeDragon · 26/06/2018 19:38

Boys not boots sharing her tent.

littledrummergirl · 26/06/2018 19:40

That's so sad. I'd better not give my opinion of the bikers as it's rather rude.

I'm envious of those with a lie in, I start work at 8 so have to wait until the weekend. I did have a wonderful birthday present today- the insurance company have approved the kitchen and the builders have ordered it. Smile we have light at the end of the tunnel.

UrsulaPandress · 26/06/2018 19:40

But does it have civilised toilets?

UrsulaPandress · 26/06/2018 19:40

Not your kitchen obvs.

HesMyLobster · 26/06/2018 19:50

Grin at civilised toilets in Drummer's kitchen!

Just catching up on the day's events on the thread while pouring a large g&t to hopefully enjoy in the last of the sunshine.
Been one of those days.

Downeyhouse · 26/06/2018 19:54

So 1 oral exam down 2 to go!

After getting up at 5am to 30 pages of beautiful color coded revision notes on poetry .... ds question was on Bill Brydon!!!!!

Grin

He managed to somehow link it to his set texts and identity!

Relieved it is over .... 6 days and counting.
