Thought someone might have already done a thread on this. I don’t always agree with Bindel but had a lot of time for her, but this has really surprised me. Not sure why they would be finding it amusing - Musk and Trump are hardly figures of fun, for feminists especially, whatever you think of the (clearly far right!) salute.

@MrGHardy i am baffled by your perspective but for starters there is video footage of Macron doing the exact same movement (thumps heart, arm goes out with palm down and fingers together). I’ve seen it all over the place but Musk retweeted it a day or two ago.

Yeah it’s epic when US women die because they can’t access safe abortions or healthcare during a miscarriage. Epic when women in the UK are intimidated going to access reproductive healthcare or when some MPs just ‘suddenly’ decide that maybe our abortion laws need looking at. I’m sure we’ll all be having a good old laugh at these things in the coming years.

IMO it’s a serious issue - for feminists - due to the wider, incredibly serious context. So yes, it’s irresponsible to treat certain things about Musk or Trump or any of the other cronies as a laugh - if you care about feminist issues.

@HumHU3 as Trump has made clear, there will be no change to US abortion laws under his government. Biden, Clinton and Obama had decades to enact a Federal law on abortion and failed to.

As a separate issue there are of course some European countries where abortion is either illegal or significantly more restricted than the US but not many people seem interested in that.

Glad you trust him on that one but many don’t, with good reason. There’s a serious credible chance the Comstock law will be used to restrict abortion, for starters.

I’ve actually made a number of points on this thread about the threats to reproductive rights in the US and how it’s impacting women here via the likes of the AfD; threat of the tech bro oligarchy to reproductive rights; and so on. Others have just gone back and forth about whether it’s a Nazi salute and how it’s pathetic to worry about women’s rights in this context. But sure, I’m clearly the myopic one avoiding debate, and the ‘it’s not a Nazi salute’ lot have ‘won’, well done.

No, it's your argument...that it is a common gesture meaning something else. That isn't mine, it's yours...and all I am asking is you to provide evidence. You claiming someone did something and then tell the other person "you find it" is not how debating works.

Other people wrote it isn't obviously a Nazi salute referring to whatever else it could be, waving for example. In order for it to not be an obvious Nazi salute, there has to be something it could reasonable be - something common.

But the fact that you are arguing semantics instead of simply linking your evidence is so telling and honestly, your trolling is getting tedious. So one last time - link anyone (Macron or whoever) who has done this. Just one video.
