What sexist event happened to you this week? Big or small..

I went to a group golf lesson for the first time the other week and as there were not enough bays, all the women were told to share and the men had a bay to themselves...for an hour..and I was the only one who noticed and said anything!!!

Response from male instructor.... an hour is a long time the women might get tired 😡. Shall I name and shame?

Would be interesting to hear if I am the only one who sees these things now, when I never did in my youth?

Another example this afternoon....
MIL phoned me to ask me something about DSs upcoming birthday. She didn't phone her son as she knew he'd be working and didn't want to disturb him.

I was working too as I do every day.....

All the men who preface everything they say with "I realise I'm a white straight male and have no right to an opinion, but...".

There are so many things that infuriate me about this in itself, not to mention the DARVO aspect. And the fact most of the people who use this seem to think they're the wokest, best-informed people ever.

I'm so tired of hearing white straight males bleating on about the fact they're white straight males...read the fucking room, people!

Two today. Presentation of software. Women can have their user name changed.
Bereavement in team, woman nominated to organise flowers for the colleague. Not in this person’s job content, but they were good at that sort of thing.

MoreJaffaCakesPlease · 11/10/2021 15:22

I received a confirmation letter from a tradesman who came recently.
He addressed it to Mr Jaffa Cakes. There is no Mr Jaffa Cakes, I have a partner but we aren't married and he isn't on the tenancy so we don't share last names, wasn't present at time. Cannot fathom why the default was Mr...

Mum2021askingquestion · 11/10/2021 17:15

I contacted someone to get wills made.

DP never even spoke to the will company, all from my email address. I paid.

Can you guess who the wills were addressed to? Yep not me, but the penis owner of the relationship. I queried it with the company and apparently 'that's the way we always do it' is a good enough reason. I suggested they rethink this policy as I and many other women would find it highly offensive. They didn't bother replying.

How often have the reverse of this plethora of examples happened to you CB?

I was on a thread on Mumsnet talking about sexist things that happened to me. and a man came on and told us how we were all wrong...Grin

Mum2021askingquestion · 11/10/2021 17:20

Ooh and another question for our troll.

Do you consider yourself a misogynist?

Follow on... Do you consider yourself a racist?

Just wondering.

Charley50 · 11/10/2021 17:29

My nice but ineffective male manager met with male exams team leader. The two female SENCOs (who actually do the job)weren't invited. My manager agreed that we would take on an extra role, then didn't even bother to tell us, causing issues for student's exams, and creating extra work for us.

goinggently · 11/10/2021 17:50

I'm pregnant and my NIPT results were emailed to me, but the code to unlock them was sent to my partner's phone! Need DH's consent to open my own medical records it seems 🤯

I was informed by an acquaintance (male) that I bumped into that I couldn't stop having babies until I've "given my husband a boy" I told them that my husband and I don't value our child based on their genitals and reminded them that I wasn't married to Henry VIII...

ANameChangeAgain · 11/10/2021 18:48

@Mum2021askingquestion he probably knows a couple of women, so can't possibly be a misogynist. He might even have a black friend, which means he can't possibly be a racist either 😆

Randommother · 11/10/2021 19:06

I saw a job description someone had written at work last week, which was all in the male gender. Luckily it was caught before it was published. I discovered today that the default title on our travel system is Mr, after I questioned why my hotel was booked in the name of Mr Random - it seems the default on my profile hasn’t been changed.

One of his friends is gay too.

Not this week but a month or so ago. I’m selling a small stake I have in a property in the UK, one of my relatives is buying me out. The solicitor dealing with it couldn’t get his head around the fact there was no man involved in the transaction. He sent correspondence to my relative’s husband, who has never had anything to do with said property. I also got emails addressed to Mr&Mrs, despite the fact I’m not married, my DP also has never had anything to do with said property, which predates him by several years, plus he doesn’t speak English. It took the solicitor a while to realise it was a nob free transaction (except for his).

I live in a Southern European country renown for its sexist attitudes, but I can say hand on heart I’ve never had this shit from professionals here, only males from the UK (including the directors at my old company Angry).

MrsWombat · 11/10/2021 20:50

An assumption was made that I was a divorcee because I use Ms instead of Miss.

ANameChangeAgain · 11/10/2021 21:17

@00100001 bingo 🤣🤣

littlebilliie · 11/10/2021 22:47

@LeroyJenkinssss

Currently in the middle of a massive insurance claim. I’m first policy holder, I’m the only one who has dealt with the renovation company, I am the only one on the house deeds/mortgage, which they know about as they had to get my signature for the works. Got an email for the materials. Addressed to my husband. Sigh.
I've had this, they really would like to talk to the man. They also tried to gaslight me on a call, I asked for a transcript funnily enough the claim was paid
Quarks69 · 11/10/2021 22:59

@CuckooCuckooClock

I tried to start a feminist club at the school I work in and it has been omitted from the list of extracurricular clubs that has been sent out. Not a mistake. Management hate women. Trying to decide whether to fight them on this or just accept defeat.
My last mixed school And my current girls school both have a feminist society. Definitely worth battling for that one cuckoo.

I am going to try and remember to respond with...‘didn’t know you need a penis too do.....’😅

(Love the drive a car on, keep picturing a guy turning the steering wheel with his knob! 😂😂)

Mine’s a reversing at the supermarket one too. Was reversing out of my car park and the car on the opposite side to mine was a shiny, giant, dual-cab, jacked-up, “I Am Definitely Compensating For Something” monster truck utility vehicle, which was sticking way out further than most, necessitating a five point turn for me. The owner of said beastie must have seen me backing out of my spot and virtually teleported to his “Baybee” and stood right in my way, gesticulating at me. I had to yell out of my window that I’d been driving for longer than he’d been alive, never backed into anything yet and all he was doing was pissing me off.

ElectiveAffinities · 12/10/2021 11:56

Having a burglar alarm fitted recently. The engineer was explaining to DH and me that you could set a feature that meant the system beeped once when the front door opened.

We both said we wouldn’t want that. But he was eager to tell DH that it might be useful as he always had it activated at home so ’the wife hears it when I come in and knows she needs to get the tea on the table.’

Cue a very uncomfortable DH, who prepares dinner as often as I do, if not more, and a stony face from me.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 12/10/2021 12:56

Completing school application forms. It said how do you want letters addressed. So I said "Mrs and Mr Penguin" cos, you know, I do all the school stuff with my pink fluffy brain and indeed, pay all the school fees. That came back 'not recognised, do you mean Mr and Mrs Penguin'.

Such a tiny thing to rile me so inordinately.
