Probability of fingering causing pregnancy

Please do not shame me, I’m feeling terrible and my mental health is in shambles. Here are the facts before I ask question…..

-40 YO
-2 kids conceived super easy (11 & 13)
-In between birth controls (iud next month)
day 15 of cycle (ovulating according to chart)
-partner and I opted NOT to have intercourse since we knew I am ovulating.

I’m pretty sure some semen was on his fingers when he touched me. we don’t know 100% he says not but I did see him “handle himself a few times” So yes I know yes it’s theoretically a possibility if sperm is near vagina BUT statistically how likely? I’m ready everything from “haha your an idiot it’s impossible” to “that’s how my cousin conceived”.
Im terribly concerned. Loosing sleep and can’t eat. I cannot be pregnant at this time due to mental health concerns and my marriage is failing heading to a divorce. My anxiety is sky high and I’m all over the map from convinced to knowing it’s improbable. Next two weeks will be hell waiting.
Facts that I have come across online.

At 39 my chance of becoming pregnant TRYING is only about 5-6%.
If we had gone as fas as withdrawal (did not just using this as a thought) It’s 4% chance of pregnancy. Adding those two things together gives me odds less than 0, correct?

Going nuts…..

Please help me.

Just don't go fingering yourself with a Birdseye fishfinger in the mean time they are also full of seamen I believe.

😂

ladydimitrescu · 25/07/2022 23:16

If you're pregnant, it's not from that occasion.

mrsfoof · 25/07/2022 23:19

Not impossible but highly unlikely.

Has to be within 5 days and I already ovulated. Plan B stops ovulation. I track my ovulation so I know I ovulated which is why we didn’t have intercourse

I was under the impression that plan B thickens the lining of the uterus to prevent the sperm from reaching the egg.

I think you’ll be fine.

I didn’t get pregnant between the ages of 14 and 17 and I was basically Sooty.

This mustered a guffaw

Just a bit, just need captain, cod

Spookysparkles · 25/07/2022 23:33

I think it’s anxiety, when you are in a state of worry about other things it’s common for the individual to focus/ project all their worries onto something quite specific - sounds like that’s what you are doing here.
certainly not a healthcare professional- but I have anxiety and have done this myself in the past.

good luck OP, for what it’s worth - I think it’s so extremely unlikely you would have become pregnant from this encounter.
my advice would be - when your worrying about this : focus on the FACTS , the ODDS are very heavily in your favour of not being pregnant. Focus on the majority likely hood instead of worrying yourself sick over the tiny minority likelihood .

MountainVA · 25/07/2022 23:34

Nope read above as other explained how it works - stopping ovulation.

A Fisherman's Friend could be the culprit, that would stop him coughing like a seaman

SherbertLemonDrop · 25/07/2022 23:39

Just wow

CharlieD2020 · 25/07/2022 23:44

Ignore the horrible comments, OP. It's so horrid to feel so worried. But I really don't think this will result in pregnancy. I'm really sorry to hear of everything you're going through with your marriage. Sending an unmumsnetty hug xx

moanyhole · 25/07/2022 23:53

OP this is your anxiety speaking, as a fellow sufferer I know logic can go out the window when you are highly anxious, it does for me too. You are HIGHLY unlikely to be pregnant. The issue here is the anxiety, get to the GP and see what more can be done for it. I personally am a lot more rational and don't catastophise on the right medication.
I wish you the best with your marriage and attempts to save it.
I cannot get over the fact that people think this is a TMI thread, the OP had to give the details so she would get accurate feedback. Are people really unable to handle this without getting offended? Toughen up then, seriously 😐

Museya15 · 25/07/2022 23:57

Lay of the willy has broke the internet🤣🤣

BitOutOfPractice · 25/07/2022 23:58

Someone with such very strong beliefs around this issue probably needs to practice much more stringent contraceptive practices. But the chances of being pregnant are, I’d say, negligible.

Omg yes especially since most of these people either have children or are sexually active. I don't understand how you can have a sexual history and be this easily grossed out by sex. 😂 it's just like in the NFP community people call sex baby dancing. Lol like REALLY. YOU HAVE FIVE CHILDREN. You are NOT the virgin Mary. Stop pretending like you're an untouched saint. Rofl.

HolidayCountdownIsOn · 25/07/2022 23:59

Unless you still read cosmo which would have you believe as much as brushing a penis will get you pregnant I am confident you aren't. Definitely lay off the willy if it creates this much stress, it isn't worth it.

With all, your anxiety, MH issues and marriage difficulties it's crazy that you use the rhythm method 🤦🏻‍♀️

MrsAquaman · 26/07/2022 00:13

Not the point for OP but for those saying more education is needed because they don't know how the MAP works...

"Levonelle One Step is thought to work by:

  1. stopping your ovaries from releasing an egg
  2. preventing sperm from fertilising any egg you may have already released
  3. stopping a fertilised egg from attaching itself to your womb lining."

Taken from the patient information leaflet for the medicine in question. Most reliable source usually.

Was on pill for 9 years

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 26/07/2022 00:24

So much ignorance on this thread. The morning after pill only prevents ovulation. It's too late if she's already ovulated.

I'm sorry you're so anxious and I'm sorry you're not getting much support. In the very very very tiny off chance you're pregnant, you will still have options. If it helps, I've been trying to get pregnant with similar odds and haven't.

WhackingPhoenix · 26/07/2022 00:29

We issue the MAP regardless of whether ovulation has occurred or not as it works in a couple of different ways:

• Prevents ovulation
• Prevents fertilisation
• Prevents implantation

It’s a hefty dose of progesterone which does not create a welcoming environment for a possible pregnancy. Have five days passed since ‘the incident’?

Also, you could have the emergency copper IUD as long as you are ‘middle of your shortest known cycle +5 days’, i.e. up to five days after you ovulate.

For example, if you have a 28-day cycle, you would take day 14 as your likely ovulation date and add 5, meaning you could have the copper IUD up to day 19 of a 28-day cycle.

However, your risk of pregnancy from this exposure is pretty negligible.

I didn't see OP say she was using the rhythm method. That was invented in the 1930's and based on a very archaic old fashioned idea of how female biology works. Assuming that all women have a perfect 28 day cycle and all ovulate on day 14. Not everyone follows this.

Much more accurate current day NFP are methods such as sympto thermal fertility awareness method, taking charge of your fertility methods, and the sensiplan methods all which use a basal body thermometer, involve checking your cervix, cervical mucus, cervical height and have a strict set of rules and strict breakthrough criteria that you must meet in order to qualify to follow them.

I've been successfully avoiding pregnancy for three years with my husband and I successfully became pregnant first try with this method as well. So it's a very valid method of birth control depending on which method she was using and what rules she followed.

Basically sooty between the ages of 14-17 😂😂😂

Just all TMI.

Well it was fairly fucking obvious from the title it wasn't going to be about crochet so why'd you open the thread? JFO
