Hello! I am feeling a bit low at the moment and am looking for ways out of this through productivity. While my child is at school I am trying to work alone at home. I wanted to suggest looking for accountability buddies.... a group where you can share your list of to dos as a way of making yourself accountable. The aim would only be to be supportive of each other in a non judgmental way. The accountability really comes from inside the writer.... but it might I think help to put something up on line.
I think I can help myself by putting up a list of things I am trying to get done and noting them down as I do them. SO, here goes... if anyone wants to join me they would be most welcome.... and I will do my best to cheer them on! best petal.

I’ll join you petal although I’m not always that great at keeping up with threads. I’m at home at the moment, supposed to be decorating and having a general sort out while dc at school. But it’s fits and starts, I have low mood and anxiety. Started about 18 months ago, I’ve never suffered before. So instead of doing stuff, sometimes I just sit and cuddle the dog.

lemonbalmtea · 09/07/2019 10:08

Hi petal, I found this really helpful when I was having a low period. I had a friend who I emailed every night with what I'd been up to. It also helped to build exercise into the routine, and to have a mixture of essential to do, routine tasks, and pleasurable activities. I'd be happy to join you - I'd share my elephants (the things I am putting off but life will be infinitely better once I've done them!)

petal2019 · 10/07/2019 04:38

Hi @lemonbalmtea and @CapybarasLoveCake! really great to hear from you both! I hope you are alright. I can really relate to what you both wrote....wishI had a dog to cuddle!! and I think that is a great idea with the emails.... I am currently very weighed down with a decision I need to make and this makes me feel deeply depressed... it is something that affects myself, her and my parents and it feels like a terrible responsibility on my own to make this decision.
However... here is my todo list for today.... I am going to aim to prioritise 5 things:

  1. to ring W and ask them about the options
  2. to inform L about decision and send off forms
  3. to send off forms for Ps
  4. to pay in cheque to bank
  5. to tidy all of downstairs and put away huge pile of clothes in my room.

Yes I would love to join this.

My to do list for today is:

  1. meet dad for lunch.
  2. do 2nd coat edging on pink wall
  3. wash work clothes
  4. spray weed killer in back garden
  5. do the dishes
  6. fix new blinds child safety clips
  7. post letter

Good luck everyone on staying productive today, I'll post back later to update what I've managed, I know it really probably doesn't sound a lot.

petal2019 · 10/07/2019 07:34

Hi @Nogodsnomasters! Really nice to meet you. You say it doesnt sound a lot.. I don't know I think that sometimes when I am feeling low anything achieved is valuable. Good luck with those... I have decided on prioritising the next 5 and positing them but I am keeping another list of all the other things that need doing as I think of them.... Ill let you know if it is working for me!! Best wishes!

Nogodsnomasters · 10/07/2019 07:38

Hi! Yes I also have a longer list of all things that need doing but there is only so much I can muster on my day off work so those 7 are what I hope are attainable today without over pushing myself. Looking forward to hearing how we've all done at the end of the day.

CapybarasLoveCake · 10/07/2019 09:14

Today:

Email window people for broken pane - done it !
Tidy whole house up and sort through two dc clothes - on it !

Got an audio book on and a coffee break scheduled at 10am :-)

Make something healthy for dinner, although I forgot to take chicken out of freezer last night so need to rethink.....

lemonbalmtea · 10/07/2019 09:25

Nice to meet you all. My to do list is so long! OK, for today.

Buy a bunch of things for the weekend
Tackle cleaning
Sort two important work things

That sounds a bit vague but once I engage my brain on doing them, I will know what to do.

Remember, don't feel disheartened if everything doesn't get done. I look forward to reading your updates later.

Happy doing.

Nogodsnomasters · 10/07/2019 12:14

Hope everyone's day is going well with lots of productivity! So far all I've done is spray the weeds from my list.

lpchill · 10/07/2019 13:10

Could I join? I'm trying to keep myself busy so I'm not tempted to eat. Discovered that any tablets that I could take for my nerve damage will put weight on and it's a mammoth task to lose it! Plus I have loads to get done! Well done everyone so far with what your doing

CapybarasLoveCake · 10/07/2019 14:20

Well done petal and others.

I have finished the tidying. So I feel much better about the house. I have an estate agent coming tomorrow for a valuation. We are also trying to decide whether to move or not. Just shows I need a bit of pressure to get things done!!

CapybarasLoveCake · 10/07/2019 14:21

Can’t decide on dinner though - it’s quite heavy weather so something quick and easy AND healthy - no pressure then :-/

petal2019 · 10/07/2019 14:54

HI @Capybaraslovecake! Congrats with your tidying! Fab! how about risotto... proper or fake (ie stirfry) with salad.... nice and quick.

Nogodsnomasters · 10/07/2019 17:34

Well done so far everyone. I've got 3 things done out of my 7 and feel like the day is nearly over by the time I serve dinner to my ds and get him bathed and into pj's and asleep, I'm ready to get into my own pj's so feel like I'm basically gonna get nothing else off the list done but that is defeatist! (sp?) anyone have any encouragement?

lpchill · 10/07/2019 17:51

I have a massive list that won't get done ina day or week but will be good to get cracking on it. Today I have cut the grass and deweeded. Washed the car inside and out. Done a bit of decluttering and got some recipes together. Tomorrow I don't have too much planned apart from the usual housework. Will take my preschooler swimming in the afternoon.

Nogodsnomasters · 10/07/2019 18:03

ipchill that's a great amount of things off the to do list today, well done! Your bigger list if you break that down into baby steps and work off them each day to achieve the bigger stuff, might that help? I've got 1 more thing ticked off the list now so that's 4 out of 7 I've managed, my last post gave me a bit of a kick up the butt.

Nogodsnomasters · 10/07/2019 21:18

Final score for me 5 out 7 items. I'll re-add those to tomorrow's list, always happens

Heymummee · 10/07/2019 21:24

I would like to join please! I love a good to do list, but I find things overwhelming and it’s really hard for me to prioritise and also do things to completion.

List of things to do tonight -

  1. Make DS2’s lunch for tomorrow.
  2. Put pile of clean laundry away.
  3. Shower and prepare clothes for work tomorrow.
  4. Lay uniform out for DS1.

I’ll be leaving for work early in the morning, so I’ll put tomorrow’s after work list on now.

  1. Empty dishwasher- probably delegate to DS2.
  2. Change bedding.
  3. Hoover downstairs.
  4. Wipe around 3 toilets and 3 basins.
  5. Sort through unpacked box in living room from moving 4 months ago.
petal2019 · 10/07/2019 21:30

@Nogodsnomasters! I completely get where you are coming from .. It is the same with me. Wish you a relaxing sleep.
I am exhausted having got up at 4. My house is messy again... oh dear.... but perhaps I could manage to tidy it so its not the priority in the morning!
I feel I am on a treadmill and not getting any where....
best petal x

Oh no! I wrote a long post but it has been cancelled. Never mind.
I was just responding to yours @Heymummee. I think the key for me is also prioritising. I have summarised my priorities under letters for the overall aims:
A. Get the writing done.
B. get the paid work done.
C. get the application off for C
D. organise summer
E. get more work
F. Essential admin
G. Household essentials
H. entertainment.

And now if I categorise what I do I see I spend a lot of time on the things at the bottom of the list. So if I recategorise my left over tasks from yesterday I come up with

  1. A. get on with writing L.
  2. . D. Card to O.
3.. F. to send off forms for Ps
  1. F. to pay in cheque to bank
  2. G. put away huge pile of clothes in my room.

So I will do my usual hour of tidying now and somehow today try and fin a balance between doing Gs and getting the As and Bs done... so planning my time accordingly.

I have 2 days now... I need to prioritise getting A done.
perhaps a bit of B.

SO....
Work . 6- 5.30pm....
I must be able to get A done in that time. I shall try somehow rotating my focus so that I am not sitting down all day.

6-9
Household and first attempt at A

9-11 A
11-12 Yoga
12-1 A
1-2 D& F
2-4 A
4-5.30 B

Eve relax.... supper C D
