Hello! I am feeling a bit low at the moment and am looking for ways out of this through productivity. While my child is at school I am trying to work alone at home. I wanted to suggest looking for accountability buddies.... a group where you can share your list of to dos as a way of making yourself accountable. The aim would only be to be supportive of each other in a non judgmental way. The accountability really comes from inside the writer.... but it might I think help to put something up on line.
I think I can help myself by putting up a list of things I am trying to get done and noting them down as I do them. SO, here goes... if anyone wants to join me they would be most welcome.... and I will do my best to cheer them on! best petal.

HI @Nogodsnomasters! That is a great idea to buy the birthday cards altogether. I am always so disorganised when it comes to birthdays!
Sounds like you had a good and useful day!

petal2019 · 15/07/2019 03:52

right... onwards and upwards....
3.50 so... just tidying my room has taken one hour!!!
But Im so pleased!
It has been such a mess for so long and is now more or less cleared... although it needs a good clean!!
I feel once I have done this rough tidy through all the house I will be able to cope with tidying the attic and at last making progress with decluttering.
Although I am trying to get healthy and lose weight anyway... there seems somehow to be a link between decluttering.... casting off the weight of possessions and losing weight!

petal2019 you must be exhausted by now being up half the night! At least you used the time productively, if I were up at that time I'd be too afraid of waking everyone and would just lay about doing nothing. I am working today 9-5.30 so I'm not sure I will get much of anything done today, by the time I get home at 5.45 it's dinner and then bath time, stories and bed for ds, by which time I'm exhausted and have no motivation to do anything, this is my problem. Surely other people who work full time manage to get far more done than me on their days.

petal2019 · 15/07/2019 09:16

HI Nogodsnomasters!
Well I suddenly crashed at about 5 .... but still was pleased to have sorted out the bedroom and sitting room....as in made them look more or less presentable!
I never seem to get on to decluttering!
I have to work now.... trying to get some free lance work completed today.... good luck with yours. praps you'll manage to get one extra thing sorted! best P.

I haven't updated as last week went a bit crazy. I got a lot done though. I function best with a deadline external or self-imposed. Today's task is meeting a big deadline that cropped up on Friday. I then need to regroup and reprioritise.

CapybarasLoveCake · 17/07/2019 08:48

Just catching up as I’ve had a busy week sorting the garden, meeting an old friend who was visiting the uk and general decluttering of house.

Today:

Finish first coat of paint in bathroom and take bags to charity shop.

Have a good day everyone.

interminablehellishwhatever · 17/07/2019 10:09

Hi everyone, I've just read your thread and found it a mixture of overwhelming, astounding and inspiring! How do you manage to be so functional from day to day?! I've had MH problems for many years and become less motivated and less functional as time has gone by, despite lots of therapy and work on myself. Pretty much gave up on my career over a year ago now after feeling really unhappy where I was placed and being accused of messing up a safeguarding issue (which wasn't a serious one and around a very grey area anyway). So I'm uncertain about asking them for a reference and consequently have just stalled. If I can regain some reliable functionality I could actually work for myself to some extent, but physical health issues have increased this last year or so and mental/emotional health a bit tenuous still. No DC, and single, but do some weekly breakfast/school runs with my best friend's little ones round the corner and that gives me a bit of structure 2 or 3 days a week. But summer hols are looming of course and am feeling a bit apprehensive about losing that bit of structure for 6 weeks. I still meet an old colleague and great friend once a week (on average) to talk shop and keep my hand in that way. Vague long term goal is to work from home but desperately need to have bedrooms and hallway decorated before then, because I can't interrupt client work with that sort of hiatus but the place is looking tired so really needs doing. I actually got as far as making an arrangement with a painter/decorator to come and give me an estimate but his car broke down on the way to see me last night so not sure how/if that will proceed. On the plus side it meant I cleaned the bedrooms and hallway yesterday, so they feel refreshed. I'll be working in the sitting room but that was done fairly recently and still looks fine, although I need to shop for a new bookcase and table. Similar story in the bedrooms, new curtains and rails and carpets and a bit of new furniture. Feels quite daunting and my health issues mean I also feel daunted about how I'll manage while all the decorating is going on. But if I get through all of the above I'll then have no excuses left and will have to do the necessary leg work to get my self-employment started properly.

Sorry for going on! You're all trying to find time and energy to get through your tasks and here's me over-sharing! Well, before Friday I need to clean inside of sitting room windows (and the outside of the door that opens onto the balcony), tidy and clean sitting room, do some grocery shopping and go swimming. Have managed to get over the doorstep so will make my way to the shops and aim to go swimming sometime after 4. Hopefully will also find the energy for the windows today!

Best of luck with all your updated lists today! Star

lemonbalmtea · 17/07/2019 10:25

@interminable Sounds like you have made great progress. I had a not entirely dissimilar situation, I ended up taking a part time role which gave me a positive focus then switching careers which I wanted to anyway. Would they give you a tombstone reference? It's horribly stressful I know.

I had something on all day yesterday, and now have to complete a piece of work by the end of today. Feeling immensely frustrated for some reason. I want to be organised and at my best, but instead I feel a bit foggy and unprepared. More sleep and exercise are probably what I really need so I'll try and make time for that.

petal2019 · 18/07/2019 05:56

Hi @interminablehellishwhatever! Welcome! I feel it is so nice to realise you are not alone and that feeling overwhelmed is such a common experience. I can really relate to what you are saying. It is really hard to create ones own daily structure and having a routine relating to other people helps with that...so it is especially difficult if that is interrupted. It seems to me that little bits of sport every day are helping me to cope. I also find reducing my aims helps.... Or at least prioritising them! I make a huge todo list but aim for the 5 most important ones. My friend just tries to get one done!! (the most important one) I think perhaps I am going to take that approach today! Likewise I am trying to break down the dull household tasks into really tiny parcels and that way I find I do make progress. I do hope you have a really good day with at least 1 important task done.

OP posts:
petal2019 · 18/07/2019 06:11

Ok... on that note... will try and reduce my todo list to one thing today! ....well plus family jobs... so:
FJ: lay breakfast, shop for packed lunch, make, sort out clothes for sp, tidy up to make nice environment for sp.
Oj: put in all bills to claim pay and pay any urgent bills.

On Tuesday I went around my whole house with a refill jotter pad and made notes/lists, for downstairs I have 18 to do items which I've ticked off 1 already and for upstairs I have 15 to do items and again have ticked off 1 so far. I'm going to use baby steps to work towards all these bigger items. I'm off work today and have to take my dog to the vets as she's being neutered and I've to pop to the shops with my ds but other than that I will be at home working on my list where I can. Good luck to everyone today with their lists and hello to all those joining!!

CapybarasLoveCake · 18/07/2019 08:03

@interminablehellishwhatever a few weeks ago I wasn’t doing very much but I feel stronger at the moment. Welcome and don’t try to do too much at once.

I’m going to aim to finish painting the bathroom and order a mirror. And a nice sea-scape picture. I’m not very good at finishing rooms so I want to completely finish this one before re-touching another room.

CapybarasLoveCake · 18/07/2019 08:04

@Nogodsnomasters good luck with ddog. We had ours neutered a couple of years back.

As I only seem to be able to concentrate properly on reading for 10 minutes at a time I am going to work with that and time myself. Does anyone else have concentration problems? I thought I would alternate it with other jobs.

Oh yes, I do petal2019, can sympathise. Due to chronic pain plus medication I even find it difficult to remember what I've just read, and replying to posts with some consideration for what other people have said so supportively is tricky too, because either I can't keep it all in my head or I just feel too daunted to start! Hope you're getting through your texts OK, you've achieved tonnes today already Star

@lemonbalmtea I hope the frustration has passed and you feel like you're winning today. Thanks for the suggestion about the reference, I hadn't thought of that option and might pursue it. One possible saving grace is that while I was with that organisation I got a good recognised qualification that was delivered in-house, and the certificate itself speaks volumes about what I achieved there, so I ought to console myself with that more often Wink Like you, I need to be doing more exercise, so give us a shout if you need more encouragement with that. Managed a swim/sauna/jacuzzi at our local pool yesterday, and hoping to go again tomorrow, so I can tick that off :)

Hi to everyone else and best of luck with whatever you're hoping to get done today. I did a bit of the sitting room stuff yesterday and more today, so hopefully will make that deadline of tomorrow lunchtime.
