To think it's ok to make myself sick sometimes?

Ok I know not everyone does it. But I make myself sick if I've drunk too much or if I feel like I'm bloated and had loads to eat. It makes me feel better. Today I ate 6 packets of crisps because I feel stressed. I made myself sick. That doesn't mean I have an eating disorder though does it? I feel better, I don't plan to do it again, but I feel better now. Cleansed I suppose.

No it's not ok. It's bulimia. Have you ever spoken to anyone about this?

CS12345 · 14/11/2018 21:34

You know it isn't ok otherwise you wouldn't have posted.

ChimesOnSundayMorn · 14/11/2018 21:35

It's not normal or healthy. Can't be much fun either. Probably best you stop.

Caprisunorange · 14/11/2018 21:35

Well I ate 7 packs of crisps yesterday but didn’t feel the need to be sick. I wasn’t even full.

Santaispolishinghissleigh · 14/11/2018 21:35

Apart from internal damage your teeth will start to go brown.....

cowfacemonkey · 14/11/2018 21:36

Nope binging and purging is not normal sorry. I think you should talk to someone to be honest before it escalates

PotteringAlong · 14/11/2018 21:36

That doesn't mean I have an eating disorder though does it

That’s exactly what it means. But I think you know that. Flowers

Hezz · 14/11/2018 21:36

I do this too and always have.

Absofrigginlootly · 14/11/2018 21:36

You might not have an eating disorder but that is definitely disorder eating. That’s not healthy and more than anything else will cause horrendous tooth decay.

How do you feel about your body? Is it mainly driven by feelings physically uncomfortable (bloated or stressed?) or do you have body issues too?

I would definitely find another way to cope with your stress before it starts to get out of hand Flowers

Hubblebubbletripletrouble · 14/11/2018 21:37

Binging and purging. People who don’t have eating disorders don’t do it, it’s that simple I’m afraid. I would make an appointment with your GP.

Absofrigginlootly · 14/11/2018 21:37

*disordered eating

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 14/11/2018 21:37

My teeth wont go brown. I did it for ten years and they didn't go brown.
Also that doesn't help really.
I was bulimic in the past. I think maybe it's coming back.

Eating six packets of crisps then making yourself sick is classic binge / purge behaviour. Bulimia is a mental health problem - I hope you can feel strong enough to get help. What you're doing is a coping mechanism but it's an unhealthy one.

My friend had bulimia and he has ruined all of his teeth :(

Farontothemaddingcrowd · 14/11/2018 21:38

Gp won't do anything.

OP posts:
Littlechocola · 14/11/2018 21:38

You know that it isn’t

Littlechocola · 14/11/2018 21:38

Why won’t the gp do anything?

MrsGrindah · 14/11/2018 21:38

Also ( if you are worried about this) calorie absorption starts from the moment your saliva starts off the initial digestion process so by the time you’ve thrown up your food you will have already taken in quite a lot of the calories. So whilst you may feel cleansed and have reduced the bloating you still may ultimately gain weight if you have ingested more calories than you have burnt overall. Find a better way OP.

IncomingCannonFire · 14/11/2018 21:39

Afraid so. The acidic nature of your stomach contents means that it is damaging your throat mouth and teeth.

PrincessConsuelaBannanaHammock · 14/11/2018 21:39

I sometimes make myself sick if I've drank too much to make myself feel better (very very rarely as i dont drink much) However I think that's different to eating 6 packets of crisps or binge eating then making yourself sick. I think you should speak to someone before it gets worse, it does sound like am eating disorder to me Flowers

MoistCantaloupe · 14/11/2018 21:39

That’s how bulimia starts. People think they can control it and it gets worse and worse. Sorry OP, it’s an eating disorder....but I think you realise that as that’s why you’ve asked. and it’s not just the throwing up, the binge eating from stress too. But in good news, you’ve identified it now so have lots of opportunity to change - you can talk to you GP and look at the BEAT website. There is lots of support if you look xx

Candlelights2345 · 14/11/2018 21:39

I’m afraid what you’re describing is bulimia, which is an eating disorder.

SmileEachDay · 14/11/2018 21:40

You were bulimic in the past - how did you change your patterns of behaviour?

MoistCantaloupe · 14/11/2018 21:40

Sorry op just read you used to be bulimic. Get a different GP if yours won’t help!

DayManChampionOfTheSun · 14/11/2018 21:42

Hi OP, I do exactly the same. No it isn't normal or healthy.

I think it probably is bulimia but it doesn't feel like that, I'm not losing weight from it, I'm not using it as a way to get thinner. I just like doing it sometimes.

Please speak to someone, I know I'm a fine one to talk but I am starting to get really ashamed of this, especially the binge and chuck elements, which I do secretly enjoy at the time but then feel awful and guilty later. I have been doing this for years and am now at a point where I will automatically be sick of I have eaten slightly too much, I can't even stop it now, it just comes out.

I was bulimic from 21 to 30. Teeth not brown.
So that does not worry me too much.
I think I posted because in my head it feels normal because it's what I've always done. So I wanted confirmation it wasn't iyswim
