So, with BYMT auditions already underway and NYMT open for booking, it's surely time for a 2022 thread?? Who's in?

Submitted DD's NYMT actor self-tape and booked her audition today, eek! Need to also get her musician audition recorded this side of Christmas as we go on hols on 27th and she's back to school on 4/5th (PCR dependent 🙈)

That is organised! Need to decide on song to record first!
I wonder if they are taking tapes in advance will they still prepare one for the audition too.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 17/12/2021 23:14

I read it as a recording of the song you're doing at audition??

Re NYMT, onthe video clip on how to prepare they say you can do your recorded song again at the live audition or do a different song. I have a horrible feeling this may become academic and auditions may have to move fully online anyway...

Biscuitsneeded · 18/12/2021 10:47

But I hope I am wrong!! Still hope that if they get recall stage things might be better by then and those might be able to happen live.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 23/12/2021 21:00

That's our musician recordings submitted today too! Can now relax and put it all out of our minds until nearer her in person performer audition.

They are definitely keeping us in suspense this year on shows! Noticed some teasers on the BYMT site:

In 2022 in particular we are looking for young people :

From Yorkshire and the north of England for a very high-profile new show about school life in West Yorkshire (more details early in the New Year)

From Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and Scotland for our production of Breadboy at the Lyric Theatre in Belfast

With training in, or who can learn quickly, Latin dance – salsa, mamba, merengue, rumba, cha cha cha

With, or can learn, a west country accent

With puppetry and/or physical theatre skills

Oh no!! That’s such a shame. It’s really not an easy thing to do a group audition over zoom.
Biscuitsneeded · 07/01/2022 17:19

DS hasn't got as far as recording his song yet - maybe this news will focus his mind. It's sad news because I think everyone feels better auditioning in person, but I'm sure it can't be helped. Fingers crossed that if they are lucky and get a recall, those at least might still be in person. I am really hoping this wave will be on a downward trend in a few weeks.

Mcmumager · 07/01/2022 18:28

I can’t stand to move the furniture for a zoom again Grin. I wonder if they will announce the shows soon.

Comefromaway · 08/01/2022 21:26

I don’t think Ds is going to be auditioning this year but instead concentrating on university applications.

Biscuitsneeded · 08/01/2022 22:04

@Mcmumager I think quite a few people are holding off on auditioning until they know the shows, which is understandable. I have little time for people being fussy about venues in a pandemic, but I do understand that they want to know what they are auditioning for. Approximate dates would be helpful too! But I think most of all I am hoping they send news soon after each zoom audition and don't make them wait ages for it, so families can move on and make summer plans if it's a no! Will your DC audition, do you think?

Mcmumager · 08/01/2022 22:17

Yes it would be great to know shows/dates from both to give a bit of focus.

In 2020 my ds was auditioning for both until we realised he couldn’t make the dates of the BYMT shows so he didn’t audition. He loved the NYMT audition and got placed in a show which obviously didn’t happen.

2021 did online and felt NYMT was a big group online and didn’t feel he got time to really show much and wasn’t offered a show.

He then auditioned for BYMT and got a fab part and had the time of his life and wouldn’t change a thing.

This year he will audition for both but was hoping it would be in person as I think it’s a totally different experience. We’ve got a holiday booked this summer though and I’ve been strict and said we are away those dates so we’ll be limiting his opportunities but feel the kids are growing up so fast we also need our family time!

Will your ds audition? My dd is also planning to audition for BYMT - she was offered a show last year but couldn’t make the dates due to holiday but the show she was offered ended up not happening due to covid so maybe it was fate! She’s got other stuff rescheduled this summer from 2020 so her dates are limited but she thought it was worth it for the experience.

Biscuitsneeded · 08/01/2022 22:38

Yes I remember your DS getting a NYMT show in 2020 and then going to BYMT last summer, and your DD not being able to make the dates. Really hope something works out for both of them this year!

Mcmumager · 09/01/2022 11:08

That’s another level of stress @Comefromaway. Sending him ( and you ) lots of luck.

Comefromaway · 09/01/2022 18:06

He’s a little disappointed his first audition is online. He has 10 days to submit a recording. Still waiting to hear from the others.

doesanybodyhaveamap · 09/01/2022 18:28

@Comefromaway that's such a shame. DD finds communicating virtually really, really hard. The move to online auditions will not work in her favour at all.

Newgirls · 09/01/2022 18:33

I think DD is going to focus on NYT this year (if gets in) and a music course.

She loves BYMT though and having seen the Let it Snow show I’d recommend it. They need to market to more boys schools though.

Biscuitsneeded · 16/01/2022 19:21

Re: NYMT. The website now has proposed rehearsal dates and show dates, and a suggestion that they will announce the shows very soon. DS finally recorded a song this pm and has booked his zoom slot. He's gone for next Saturday as his life gets ridiculously busy after that. Will report back. Anybody else zooming soon?

Mcmumager · 16/01/2022 20:03

The NYMT rehearsals should’ve started this weekend eh. Is only 3 shows unusual? There were 4 scheduled in 2020 and 3 in 2021- just wondered what was the norm?

One of the shows has dates that wouldn’t work for us but 2 out of 3 not bad!

Zoom audition booked for NYMT 29th and all being well BYMT audition in person on the 30th.

Biscuitsneeded · 16/01/2022 20:30

Yes, usually 4 but one is usually a touring show, and perhaps while there is still Covid it was deemed too risky to keep sending young performers from all corners of the UK to lots of different destinations several weeks apart. For the residentials they can kind of become a temporary bubble, at least.

Mcmumager · 16/01/2022 22:14

That makes sense. Can’t believe we are still here with things still impacted 2 years later eh!

minimits · 18/01/2022 14:13

Well hello everyone again! Can’t believe we are back here already! DS has submitted his self tape for NYMT (no views as yet) but is so snowed under with self-tapes for Drama School auditions he’s a tad gutted NYMT is also online now. Such is covid life I guess! Good luck to all!

Mcmumager · 21/01/2022 13:18

Good luck to anyone auditioning for NYMT this weekend.

Biscuitsneeded · 21/01/2022 19:14

Thank you @Mcmumager. Good luck to any other DC who are zooming this weekend.
