I was waiting for someone else to start it but had to take the plunge to tell you i just did my w5r3. I managed it but am hurting. Started off too quick and was wrecked 5 mins in but slowed it down - kept going and got to about 14 mins in when my ankles started really hurting - i kept on going anyway and was v relieved when raaawb said that was it - i then proceeed to hobble home - the bath is filling as i type and my ankles are painful but still that i did it.

After i have selfishly gone on about myself . On behalf of all the runners on the thread we would encourage you to give it a whirl even if you dont think you can run for toffee! This is the programme most of us are following. Tis good fun! here

Well done Nappy, Norky, Violet, Vulgar, on the 20 min run.

Paisleyleaf, when I first started I could hardly run for 1 min, I used to wait until it was dark and run in a playing field away from prying eyes (note to self: not very safety conscious was it?), eventually got up the courage to run on the pavement still at night, but now I run in the daylight, on the towpath which is frequented by rowers and fit students running past. Baby steps, you'll get there, take it slow but sure.

paisleyleaf · 23/05/2009 21:36

Well done Nappy!!

Yep, I've spent this week running over fields near us that no-one uses. Hoping to get confident enough for the road eventually, as there is a convenient route which is, funnily enough, 5k.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 24/05/2009 10:29

My lower calf on the right and my ankle top of foot area is really painful - i can see faint bruising on my foot so dh thinks i may have torn something - feel a bit . Really painful to walk but hoping its not as bad and will ease of mid week.

Well done to you all! "listening" to you all has given my the courage to give it a go.

I am new to all of this (posting/running) so i just wanted introduce myself.

been a long time since I could wear hot pants(haha!) and although not likely to again would be nice to get into some nice clothes.

I have 2 little ones and a major chocolate habit I am hoping to replace with running.

Just looking for a little encouragement/support, can i join it with you guys?

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 24/05/2009 17:02

stumbles through having run week 6 part two this morning ( 10 run, 5 walk, 10 run). Boy am I feeling it!

Hope all injuries heal.

Hi strapple - I only leap in when I can so hello everyone else!

Off to play with my new wii active band. Glutton for punishment.

HuffwardlyRudge · 24/05/2009 17:15

Signing in

I've been on week 2 for far too long. I think I did week 2 run 6 this morning .

At the beginning of the week I did a couple of extras because I was running every day. Now it's the end of the week and I'm so bogged down in a horrible cold that I can't bear to try anything harder than week 2!

I might give w3 r1 a whirl tomorrow morning, depending on how many night feeds ds demands.

NorkyButNice · 24/05/2009 22:28

Joining new thread!

Well done Nappy on the 20 minutes - sorry to hear about your pains now though.

Welcome starapple - give it a go and good luck!

SVioletcanrunfor20minutes · 24/05/2009 22:46

Hi Starapple, we're all lovely here .

Sadly I had to give up on w6r1 tonight as when it came to the second run, my knee said "no more" and I had to hobble home (from the furthest away point of my loop ). So it's trying to get a doctor's appointment on Tuesday for me, to get a physio referral (am a tightwad so want an NHS physio); failing that a recomendation for a decent sports physio in Surrey/Kent . Have self-diagnosed "runners knee", despite have super-duper specially-fitted trainers, so am going to be sensible and get medical advice.

(but I still managed to run for 20 minutes in one go last week ).

HuffwardlyRudge · 25/05/2009 04:43

Starapple - I am not long started on the programme. We can support each other through the easy stages

HuffwardlyRudge · 25/05/2009 04:44

Genuine typo! I meant early, not easy .

canella · 25/05/2009 09:30

Hello! can i join your thread! i just started the couch to 5k this morning and was spooked to find this on MN this morning!

I'm 34 with 3 DC and although i'm quite good with eating well, i've just become a SAHM because we've moved abroad. i used to have an extremely active job and i'm very susceptible to putting on weight when i'm not active! i'm 12st 6 this morning and my idela weight is 11st 7 (i'm 5ft 10)!

DC are at school and kindergarten in the morning so i've no excuse that i've no time! managed really well this morning but got a bit lost so was out way longer than i should have been! but had a terrible stitch half way out!

hope all your injuries are healing! i'll be trying again on weds for w1r2!

Skimummy · 25/05/2009 09:46

Hello again - everyone is doing well. Hope those with injuries get better soon!

Had a bit of a haphazard week but finished week 3 last night and will probably back it up starting week 4 tonight. Week 3 wasn't too bad although felt like I was really plodding along on the last run. Not too keen on all the spectators last night as everyone was out enjoying the warm weather. One day I might actually feel confident enough to go out without tying my running jacket around my waist to cover my bum...is it just me who does this?!

Now I am trying to get the courage to sign up for a 5k run in July to keep me motivated...

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 25/05/2009 12:20

sviolet how are you doing ? i am in a major grump - like you i seemed to have progressed really well then wham an injury.... i have been trying to dignose my foot and between a sprayned or strain or slight teari am not sure - its my ankle bone and top of foot area so poss a strain and i can see some bruising but i have no recollection of going over on it it was just gradual. Anyway i have limped round asda today and feel like a right banana! I have seen runners today and am all arghhhhhhhh as its a lovely sunny runnign day. Ds has croupe and had an a and e run at half 5 this am so were all radged anyway

Oooh can I join please? I have been lurking on the old threads. I started about 5 weeks ago now but have only just completed W3 R3. I am not what you call a natural runner but I do quite enjoy it. I'm mainly running to lose baby weight and get fitter again after I had a rubbish pregnancy with DS2.

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 25/05/2009 17:57

Hello

Panicked when couldn't post on the old thread or find this one.

Well done everyone who has done running and grr for people with injuries.

I did W6R2 a little bit ago - am staying with my mum and dad and quite liked escaping . Wondering how 25 min will feel and when I can fit it in later on this week...

Chinwag · 25/05/2009 19:20

I lost it too, and panicked!!

My hips really hurt, so can't run. Hope it's not for long; I was on a roll.

Vulgar, sorry I didn't answer your question about breathing; I missed it, and have just read it now. It's possibly irrelevant now, but I have heard (as the others said) that you should make sure you are running at a pace where you can hold a conversation. Well done at your progress. (And to everyone too)

HuffwardlyRudge · 25/05/2009 19:31

Did w3r1 this evening. Quite enjoyed it, although towards the end of the first 3 minutes I did start to worry that Raaahbert had forgotten me.

Sorry to hear about people's injuries.

Hello to the new runners

JackBauer · 25/05/2009 20:23

I am up to wk3 r1 tomorrow, finding it good, although his choice of music is somewhat lacking!
My sister devised an exercise programme for me but it is a 10 week one and has me doing 4 3 min runs this week, which I would not be able to do, so without her knowing I am using Raaaahbert. (and also she says 4 times a week and he says 3)
I did manage to land one foot in a pothole on Saturday though so my knee is not great, but it's better.... I hope!

I have the Race for Life in July so am training for that.

Vulgar · 26/05/2009 00:04

I did w6r1 tonight. It was nice running in the cool of the evening, even if I did keep running through clouds of gnats. Ugh!

Chinwag -whatever advice you have, it's always welcome, never too late! Thanks. i hope you are better soon and back running.

I'm definitely finding it easier now I've slowed down a bit and I even ventured off the playing fields and onto the pavements.

Welcome to all newbies: Paisleyleaf, Starapple, Canella, TheProvincialLady - good to have you here. It's nice to have some more running buddies. (I hope I haven't forgotten anyone)

Nappy and Violet - I hope your injuries clear up soon. How very annoying.

canella · 26/05/2009 08:53

i'm a complete technophobe - how do i get rahhbert on to my itunes?

theoriginalmummypoppins · 26/05/2009 10:27

Can I join. have downloaded on to itouch and will start tomorrow am.

Can I just ask how far in terms of miles is the first week ??

Silly question but I want to know how far to actually go before I head home again so I arrive back on my doorstep at the right time!!

Any other tips ? Who else is on week 1 ??

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 26/05/2009 11:53

Hello mummpoppins

I tend to go by time so once I'm hald way through the total time I turn around and come back.

Hope your first run goes well

LovelyRitaMeterMaid · 26/05/2009 11:56

Just wanted to put the gmaps pedometer and minutes per mile on here so I can find them again
