Is anyone else struggling with the new Google Health app interface?

Is anyone else finding the replacement app for their Fitbit - Google Health - has the interface from hell? I use my Fitbit to track steps, heart rate in my work outs, my sleep patterns, and track calories every now and again.

The replacement of the Fitbit app by GoogleHealth is awful, awful, awful. Trying to track calories particularly. The user interface is appalling.

If anyone has any tips for easier food input I’m all ears - recording the grammes of food is particularly impossible,

The Google Health app is useless. Can anyone suggest an alternative?

Chubbychubber · 16/07/2026 03:18

So after many years with FitBit and the past month or so with Google Health where its all gone to shit ive given up and bought a Garmin.
Gone from a Charge 6 to a Garmin Lily 2.

Am still getting used to Garmin but the relief to have a tracker that does what it should, records what it should and syncs like it should is great.
Fuck you Google Health for ruining what was once a fab product.

oh look, my Versa battery is low AGAIN. I hate Google health for messing my watch and data up.
Starting to check out Garmins. (Amost) RIP my fitbit, you were so loved and useful.

I might be alone on this thread but I’m not experiencing the issues described & I’m very happy with the AI element which is accurately assessing my data (I know, I should worry about all the data I’m handing over, but it’s so useful!).

that's OK but you often need to dramatically change the quantity to get the calories to match, and that throws the nutrition out. it was so much easier when we could save meal plans and recipes.

it's also ridiculous that we can't see calories in and out for a week on the same screen like we used to.

I don't need all of these daily stats they're giving us, I need to see how I'm doing weekly or monthly. my goals are long term, and my health needs require the abity to see trends. fitbit used to be great for this now I have to copy things into excel.

I'm currently trying to pull stats into Home Assistant to build a new dashboard to replace the old fitbit one

I use the ‘coach’ option to enter my food logs. So much easier than before & I’m I impressed how accurate it is. Anything that isn’t, I can just tell it to re-enter.

So my fitbit charge 6 threw a wobbly.
It started needing to be charged every other day, despite turning all notifications off and doing everything to minimise battery use.
Then just over a week ago I went to charge it, all it did was constantly vibrate and refuse to charge. In the bin it went.
I now have a garmin. Not totally ideal, as I did really like the slim design of the charge 6, but it does what I want it to do. And I've been wearing it for 9 days and not needed to charge it yet.

ParmaVioletTea · 02/08/2026 10:54

How is the Garmin for recording calories?

And can you review previous days as a whole day of data? That’s another Google changed: you can’t go back to past days and have all your data on one screen. You have to review each category (sleep, steps etc) separately.

Apparently Google only takes notice if you complain via the app feedback and then stop subscribing.

I've only ever recorded calories on myfitnesspal, so i don't actually know.
I'm still getting to grips with the app as it's so completely different. Let me have a play and I'll come back to you!

Howinthehelldidthishappen · 02/08/2026 12:13

So there is a calendar, you can just click on each day and thisnis the overview you get (picture may be pending)
Let me check if it's customisable.

I’ve given up and bought an Apple Watch

ParmaVioletTea · 11/08/2026 13:36

Thanks for this @Howinthehelldidthishappen My FitBit is getting towards the end of its life, so I'll be looking at a Garmin or Appre Watch for Christmas!

I just wish they weren't so clunky compared with the slimness of my FitBit.

Has anyone else's fitbit glitched? Alarm went off this morning as scheduled but screen then went blank. Thought it might be out of charge but it rebooted and showed 52% then 18% then 12%. Meanwhile time was 10 minutes slow until it synced again. Currently back on charge. Is it on its last legs?

GentlemenPreferBonds · 19/10/2026 08:39

@LIZS mine stopped recording steps the other day and wouldn’t charge then died even though app said 52% battery. I cleaned the back contacts with an alcohol wipe and it sorted itself out.

Good luck!

LIZS · 19/10/2026 08:51

Thanks , have put it on charge and will give that a go.

MoreCheeseEverywhere · 19/10/2026 08:54

Interesting to find this thread. My battery life was destroyed by the update. Sometimes it would last a couple of days, sometimes less than an hour.

it makes me so cross they have done this. It was a great product.

I bought an Apple Watch but hated the short battery life. Also I am short limbed and the big watch looked weird on me.

i have been wearing an Oura ring for three months now quite pleased with it.

I still log my food on MFP but notice that’s now part of Google Health now too that will be shittified before too long.

Madewithtea · 19/10/2026 11:53

I’m finding that if I’m sitting still watching tv for an hour, this Fitbit tells me I’ve had a nap so I try & move about a bit, which makes me feel like I can’t properly relax.
I’ve looked at getting an Apple Watch but the battery life would piss me off so until I find something better, I’ll have to stick with this crappy watch
