Is anyone else struggling with the new Google Health app interface?

Is anyone else finding the replacement app for their Fitbit - Google Health - has the interface from hell? I use my Fitbit to track steps, heart rate in my work outs, my sleep patterns, and track calories every now and again.

The replacement of the Fitbit app by GoogleHealth is awful, awful, awful. Trying to track calories particularly. The user interface is appalling.

If anyone has any tips for easier food input I’m all ears - recording the grammes of food is particularly impossible,

I don’t know why calories burned isn’t on the main page anymore.

Gingernaut · 25/05/2026 21:51

It's awful

I want to be able to customise the front page, but it doesn't give me the option any more

LIZS · 25/05/2026 22:40

Yes. Updated automatically at lunchtime and hate the logo and the format.

ParmaVioletTea · 26/05/2026 15:47

There are a few Reddit threads about this update, and I learned on those that you can reorder the tiles on the opening page of the app. But the logging of food and exercise, and the ability to see your records over a day, a weeek, a month or a year is elusive.

i think it may be an Apple Watch for me quite soon. I was looking to replace my current Fitbit as I liked the product and the app.

but not this update.

Oh god yes, the update is horrible. You can customise the front page, but it's just not as user friendly as before.

The key thing for me is no longer being able to see how many calories I'm on track for over the day. There was an update a few months ago where that feature went, but I was able to restore it but it doesn't look like this update will show it. In theory the food tab should show this, but the figure it gives isn't accurate.

I'm seriously rethinking my fitbit now but not sure what else out there is good for calorie tracking.

TheLemonOtter · 26/05/2026 17:13

How do you reorder the tiles? I don't need to know my weekly cardio, and that one is massive!

RicStar · 26/05/2026 17:20

I find it fine - you can log with the + button and you can edit the tiles etc with the pen ... unless mine is different to others as I have the AI coach which was in beta testing - but I think its standard now.

Yes!

And every time I try to log food, I can't adjust the portion size (I log pretty precisely by weighing food - not obsessively - just a few days each week to make sure my portions are under control) and that awful black banner floats on my phone screen & doesn't disappear!

Then I try to look at calories for the day, or over a week, and the neat log from the Fitbit app is replaced by a godawful jumble of information, but nothing I actually want.

I think they want people to PAY for the premium product. Fat chance - I really like the Fitbit as a fitness tracker & watch - simple, basic, easy tio use. But this app has ruined the whole experience.

Grrr the level of impotent rage I am feeling is ridiculous. But Google won't care.

So I think I'm going to buy an Apple Watch or look at the Garmin offerings.

You can't get rid of that - it's what Google thinks you want. !!!!!

What I did was remove ALL the tiles by clicking on te top RH corner of each tile, then re-click them on in the order I want. But you can't easily reorder them - you need to remove them ALL, then put then back in the order you want.

I'm so ridiculously worked up about this (I know I'm being ridiculous). It was such a little thing in my life when it worked the way I wanted it to do. Now it's totally useless. And I can't change what I want to change.

I have found my people !!! Why on earth have they changed something that was working to something that is not. The calorie deficit thing is particularly annoying. They really don’t know their market do they ? Is apple better

Becs258 · 26/05/2026 18:30

Totally agree, I hate it! Admittedly I haven’t tried to move much around yet, but I was perfectly happy with how it was. And now I’m not.

ParmaVioletTea · 26/05/2026 18:31

Yes the calorie deficit is mad! I've done a gym session today & eaten quite a lot, but it still tells me I'm 1400 cals under ... I want to know roughly calories expended & calories consumed as separate data points. Because the calories expended is generally not very reliable, whereas I am confident in my kitchen digital scales and therefore calories consumed is likely to be pretty accurate.

Urgh.

Will look at Apple Watches this weekend, but I really like the simplicity & style of the Fitbit band (I have an Aspire). And the battery life.

OP posts:
Uberaddict · 26/05/2026 18:37

They were offering premium on free trial for three months so I signed up and they still don’t have the calorie deficit thing. Why????

DistantConstellation · 26/05/2026 18:39

I probably won't get a Fitbit again as I'm so pissed off with all of this. When I first got my fitbit watch, I could log in on a browser to my own fitbit dashboard. Happy days!
Then they made it device-app only. Now my phone isn't supported, the watch doesnt charge very well and since they made me port to a Google account I can't even have the app on my phone.

I'm not buying a whole new phone just to use something I'd be able to use if they had a browser-based interface still.

They've made too many changes to the thing I thought I was buying! Plus I don't want my literal heartbeats to be linked to my Google account...

InconsequentialFerret · 26/05/2026 18:41

I found this, followed the instructions, and for now have my Fitbit app back.

fruitpastille · Yesterday 08:59

I hate it. The graphics are horrible, everything is in a different place... I don't even use the calories but I'm still pissed off. I don't want to change to a different product - I've got about ten years of fitbit data - that's why I went along with changing my account to Google by the deadline given. I don't know why they couldn't just leave the interface alone.

SnowSnow · Yesterday 14:27

I bought a new Fitbit for my birthday last week having previously had two in the past. I specifically checked the one I bought did the hourly 250 steps reminder thing. And now the app has updated and it doesn’t show that information anywhere in terms of how you have done and I can’t see it on the watch either. I know it’s not a massive feature but it’s annoying that I’ve had it a week and a bit and now I can’t track how I’m doing for that feature!

The app also seems really clunky tbh

LIZS · Yesterday 14:30

I see there are new Google Air versions of fitbits - wonder how long until ours become obsolete Hmm

ParmaVioletTea · Yesterday 19:04

I think also the move to the Google Health app is a blatant attempt to get us to pay for the premium service. I received 12 months free Premium with my last Fitbit purchase (an Aspire) and it was OK, but not so good that I'd pay for it.

I will certainly NOT be paying or a premium Google Health service!

You can just reorder those appearing on each screen. Click on the wand icon, then - to remove each then + to put back. You can scroll between screen while you do so. Still not great interface nor user friendly.

You can get rid of it if you remove well of the tabs completely then add what you want in the order you want, the first one you add will then become the big one

SabrinaThwaite · Today 00:30

The whole update is horrible.

When this Fitbit dies I won’t bother with another one.

ParmaVioletTea · Today 08:16

Yes that’s my view as well, @SabrinaThwaite It’s a pity, because I’ve had a Fitbit for almost 10 years. I like the size and shape on my wrist, and the Fitbit app had simple basic functionality.

I’m looking at Apple Watches - hugely more expensive though, and not so nice looking!

The problem is Google and Fitbit just won’t take any notice of those of us who just melt away.

Perrygreen · Today 08:21

Yes. I'll be off to Garmin when my beloved fitbit dies. They don't make the large fitbits anymore either. I don't want a slim watch face as I love being able to read messages on the go.

Thanks for ruining a great product Google.

Edenmum2 · Today 08:23

Apparently my sleep has been incredible ever since the update. It says I didn’t wake up once last night even though I literally got up and walked round the house at one point. Also my HRV is suddenly way higher than it’s ever been. Don’t trust it at all.
