waves

First day at the gym this week. curses shingles jab

45 min Senior Flex class: some cardio, upper body exercises with two 3.75kg weights whilst seated, seated abdominals, wall press ups, lunges.

Comtesse · 19/02/2026 06:59

Still here @Alittlefrustrated just a quick 6 min leg routine yesterday. Bit weedy yes, but just back from hols and keeps the streak going!

FurForksSake · 19/02/2026 08:35

@Alittlefrustrated half term and my back is knackered, I need to kick myself up the bum! I wish the English weather would improve. It’s awful.

BezMills · 19/02/2026 09:51

I too blame the weather!

I had a bit of a lacklustre session at the monkey bar gym on Sunday, then nothing since. Going to the wee local gym today, to do weights.

Boxercise was good, bit down on numbers but I think I can blame the neverending torrential rain for part of that. I thought I saw the sun last Thursday but it could have been a fever dream I guess.

Alittlefrustrated · 19/02/2026 20:25

Thank goodness, I thought you'd all jumped ship to a new thread 😂
50 x25m swim
38/300

BezMills · 20/02/2026 11:00

nice swimming!

I did heavy deadlifts at the gym yesterday. Wasn't quite feeling it, but still equalled my 1 rep max, so I'm happy with that.

I put another 10KG on the bar, set up to it, but just didn't feel like the lift was there so abandoned ship before even putting full tension on and getting the bar off the floor. I'll take that though, and the 1RM will keep for another day.

Bit more weights and machines, then 20 dead bugs three times. Aoutsch!

WearyAuldWumman · 20/02/2026 12:51

HIIT walking, only 5min.

Could barely lift two 6kg weights today.

Senior Flex class was much more energetic than you’d imagine…Lots of leg/thigh work, abdominals. Lots of seated upper weight exercises. Used two 3.7kg weights.

Survived.

I’ve obviously gone backwards through missing sessions. Grr.

WickedGoodDoge · 20/02/2026 16:22

The weather has been awful! I’m in Scotland and it’s been so cold- grey, damp, bone chilling bitter wind. Today it was supposed to rain from 3:00 so I took the dog out early, hoping to beat it. Halfway through it started to absolutely POUR it down and we came home all bedraggled, only for it to clear up half an hour later and now we are having a lovely day!

Wednesday’s cardio session was a complete wash out for me. I forgot I no longer have a gall bladder and the bacon I had with my pancakes on Tuesday left me with a sore stomach Wednesday morning. I took it really easy on the bike and rower, but was still quite tense so ended up with not only a sore stomach but a stiff lower back and neck as well. Ugh.

Did stretching class and pump last night.

Alittlefrustrated · 20/02/2026 18:18

Don't mean to rub it in WickedGoodDoge but it's been dry and bright here in NE England 🔆 Which was good for me as I was doggy sitting.
5.2 mile walk
39/300

Comtesse · 21/02/2026 12:04

Took it easy with 20 min dance type workout yesterday. Might do some yoga today - yin yoga videos with Kassandra on YouTube are quite something, feels restorative. Not very hardcore but that’s just fine….

stilldumdedumming · 21/02/2026 14:56

Hi I have
core
hard Pilates (Winter Olympics edition)
Yoga
lower body
easy Pilates.

next week I am going to try to go back to the pool. I need to take it really easy. I honestly am going to try for 10-20 lengths.

stilldumdedumming · 21/02/2026 14:56

I have thoughts on going backwards @WearyAuldWumman and I’ll be back later with musings !

stilldumdedumming · 21/02/2026 15:03

Ooo got a seat on the train so back sooner than I thought!

My walking is suddenly a bit better. It will never be ok but it’s almost back to how it was. It means I can join in with friends more easily.

i have to accept my body will play up. I won’t regain the fitness and especially any springyness I once had. But I am still much fitter and healthier than I would be if I did nothing. So I will always go backwards, but I have to accept it as part of life. Gone are the days where I could expect to always improve or maintain.
It could be illness, injury or general life. But I am still turning up for what I can do. And that’s great.

stilldumdedumming · 21/02/2026 15:04

Also 6kg is quite a lot really!

WearyAuldWumman · 21/02/2026 15:24

Thank you @stilldumdedumming .

WearyAuldWumman · 21/02/2026 15:26

The one thing that I did realise the other day is that I'm no longer doing the bad knees sideways shuffle walk (most of the time, anyway).

I'm not sure whether it's the Pilates or other resistance exercises that are paying off, but I'll take that.

WearyAuldWumman · 21/02/2026 15:33

It was a different trainer at the Senior Flex yesterday - the one that I've been avoiding. She's very good and a lovely woman, but the one time that I had her in a cover class I just couldn't keep up with the instructions.

This time round, she was using new completely seated routines and I found that I was able to follow her, so I'll go back next week. (I'm already booked in.)

I'd only started the Friday class because the Pilates trainer had taken over for a while and I know that I can follow her. Maybe being a bit more confident has also helped?

My previous experience of this type of thing was when I was a schoolgirl and it was not something I'd ever want to repeat. Maybe the difference is that the pressure is off now - no one's going to berate me for getting it wrong?

Anyway, at the moment I'm attending one Pilates class a week, two Senior Flex classes and two Active for Life sessions. The only problem is that they're mainly bunched up on Wednesday and Friday.

I'll have to try to get back to something on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Saturdays and Sundays are a bit hopeless - the gym is packed out.

I think following choreography/quick instructions is a skill that improves. I notice the majority of my Boxercise crew don't got it. So rather than trying to make them better by teaching them loads of tracks, we just stick to the one same track we do every week.

I noticed that my BodyCombat Crew didn't mind at all that my session was always the same. Which was good, as I only knew 45 minutes of tracks for like the first 6 months lol.

90 mins jazz dance class - hot and sweaty 🥵
I've noticed recently that I've lost my "bounce" - maybe due to 2 years nursing my left calf and achilles.
I'll have to work on getting it back again, without going back to square one.
40/300

WearyAuldWumman · 21/02/2026 19:14

Yesterday was 23.

I'm counting today's mini-workout at home as 24.

Brief warm-up.

Seated overhead lift using the only weight I have here. Seems to be 3.4kg, if I can trust my scales. It's a sort of short barbell thingy? (Was DH's.) The rest of his weights are still in the council lock-up that I can't access...

3X20 wall push-ups

3X20 knee lifts, diagonally, both way. (No idea of what I should call them - just know that I do them at Senior Flex.)

stilldumdedumming · 21/02/2026 19:50

@Alittlefrustrated - I think we can work on this bounce thing. Mine is quite scared of putting in an appearance. But I do wonder if it’s possible to get it back
