I find that sort of transactional exercise / calorie count idea depressing as well. There’s never enough calories for the effort. I mean I’ve slogged away for half a bloody hour on the treadmill and not even earned enough for a bloody Kit Kat! 😂 so I take no notice of calories burned at all.

I think a lot of people underestimate calories in food and overestimate Calories burned by exercise.

FurForksSake · 31/01/2026 10:50

17 minutes on the exercise bike. This was a 4 minute warm up and then ten minutes of twenty seconds of high as I can speed and resistance followed by forty seconds recovery ride and then three minutes of cool down. As advised by my physio. It was tough.

Yes so true! I train for health, capability and enjoyment. To have a good time now and ideally more later.

I am tracking calories/macros (autocarrot tried to say "nachos" ffs lol, bad autocarrot!) in my food again, just to help me steer the ship a bit. I was lapsing back into the terrible diet I got away with at 25, but does me no favours at double that age, and find tracking things helps me make better choices.

I don't count exercise calories at all, but I use an app to track workouts etc, which really helps with consistency and when I have a morale wobble.

BitOutOfPractice · 31/01/2026 12:04

I do exactly the same. I exercise to feel good and to protect my self in older age (I’m 58). Secreting I enjoy it though I moan like mad beforehand. I never count exercise calories. Any weight loss benefits are just a bonus nowadays. I could do with losing a stone or so but tbh that’s not my primary motivation now!

Alittlefrustrated · 31/01/2026 20:07

90 mins of non stop Ceilidh dancing - fab class but I was ready to drop! My heart was racing and I was lathered 🥵
30 mins stretching tonight with pilates ring.

Thank you to all for coming to my pity party <hands out party bags>

In a ridiculous turn around I had two good walking days!!
4.5 miles yesterday with a break half way
3.5 miles today non-stop

I am pleased I am persisting with physio.

I am tracking calories because I am overweight. I eat really well but too much. I don’t count exercise calories either.

@BezMillswhat app do you use for tracking exercise please?

I'm going to pay for a body scan soon when all the summer fun has been paid for. I am hoping it will give me something to work from.

Happleandhorange · 01/02/2026 18:30

I am also declaring that I did 20 workouts in January because I cannot be bothered to go back and count them all, plus it's impossible to count workout days when you are camping/travelling, plus it is a nice round number. Will count properly from here on in.

BezMills · 01/02/2026 19:36

I use Hevy. It's really good for weight training or circuits type stuff ( anything that has a bunch of things and reps to count).

I've also used Samsung health, built into my phone, and my garmin app for my watch, to track runs walks and swims etc.

Alittlefrustrated · 02/02/2026 20:31

55 mins pilates class
23/300

stilldumdedumming · 02/02/2026 20:37

@BezMillsHevy is great - just what I was looking for. Thank you

A lower body resistance for me today. I am going for slow and steady.

I’ve fallen off a bit as my si joint is being a silly beggar. I’ve done all my physio though.

45 minute pilates class.

I think I'm going to give up on the gym evenings. Could hardly get the use of the equipment.

5 minutes HIIT walking on the treadmill - more than 6kph. Max hear rate 152.

Couldn't get onto any of the apparatus. Realised that there are 7.5kg hand weights and decided to try. Mistake. Genuinely worried that I've done myself a mischief.

Tried side raises. Managed 3, not even to height. Tried one at a time. Gave up.

Tired single biceps curls. 2 sets of 5 each arm.

I'm going to wait until I'm more comfortable with 6kg weights...if I haven't mucked up my pelvic floor for good...

Nedsatomicdustbin · 02/02/2026 20:54

Easy 5 miles and then some random weights in my garage (no rhyme or reason to what I’m doing. I make it up as I go).

Happleandhorange · 03/02/2026 08:05

Lots of steps today. Hopefully actual gym tomorrow.

Alittlefrustrated · 03/02/2026 19:24

40 plus x 25 m swim - did my "compulsory" fast as I can 40 lengths, then just kept going 'til I'd done 45 mins, seeing as the pool had cleared.

FurForksSake · 03/02/2026 19:25

Twenty minutes or Pilates and physio. My bum is burning.

stilldumdedumming · 03/02/2026 19:43

Ooo a clearing pool. I can’t wait to get back.

today was avery hard core core class (by my standards) and a great and very full Pilates class.

stilldumdedumming · 04/02/2026 11:57

I’m poorly. I’m declaring today a rest day. There! I said it!!

FurForksSake · 04/02/2026 11:58

@stilldumdedumming enjoy the rest; we really do need to listen to our bodies.

Lampzade · 04/02/2026 14:04

Haven’t exercised for a week as I have had the flu .
I am going to try to do thirty minutes on the treadmill tonight

Alittlefrustrated · 04/02/2026 21:37

55 mins pilates class
Qigong class
25/300

FurForksSake · 04/02/2026 21:49

I’ve been doing lots of physio today, my legs are now very tired and sore. I’ve tried to do five minutes six times across the day and just doing one or two exercises for a good while.

Should be hydro tomorrow but pool might be too cold and so I’ll go to the other site on Friday.

WearyAuldWumman · 04/02/2026 22:57

45 minute Senior Flex class. Cardio, lunges, sit to stand with 3.75kg weight, seated shoulder press, double seated low row, knee bends, seated abdominals.

Happleandhorange · 05/02/2026 10:55

Simple but satisfying gym visit tonight. Walk on treadmill, waving some arm weights around. Nothing astonishing but I am slowly and steadily getting stronger. It's a good feeling (especially when I have to pick up dog food or water barrel).
