Hi @BitOutOfPracticeI think I might be in a similar frame of mind but without your results just yet. I am still annoyed with that I can’t swim properly at the moment but I said to the physio this morning that I think I will always keep doing these types of physio exercises to try to keep ok. I am really committed to consistency so let’s see where it takes me.

This is the 2nd physio who’s told me to get back in the pool. But honestly I think a lot of people think swimming is a gentle pootle and it’s not for me. On dry land I can’t manage the arms for front or back crawl and my legs won’t let me do breast stroke so I just don’t see what I can do. I will give it a try this week and be prepared to be amazed maybe!

Today was a lower body with slightly heavier weights (going easy shoulder wise) and 20 minutes Pilates with my new (very cheap) Pilates ring. I do like a new toy!

35 I think

Happleandhorange · 10/02/2026 07:22

I scooted again, but didn't gym. I am skipping class tomorrow (this art school is a waste of space, I will probably withdraw at end of week). Scooting for an hour is good balance and equivalent energy to an hour's walk, so I feel good about it.

WearyAuldWumman · 10/02/2026 13:09

Got my shingles jab for the first time yesterday and have the promised 'flu-like symptoms', so taking it easy. Have realised that I meant to empty and hoover the car today, in readiness for the garage tomorrow.

Grr.

FurForksSake · 10/02/2026 20:03

Today I have been practicing Bulgarian split squats, they are tricky buffers.

yeah I don't think I've ever done them, one for the list to try out.

I had a mega sesh on Sunday at the Monkey Bars gym. Did the bars, and tried out the gymnastics grips I bought for crossfit. I'm not 100% convinced about them. They definitely helped my fingers out, that's for sure, but then they were super uncomfy on the wrists. Not sure if that's meant to feel like that or if I didn't have them adjusted properly.
I did some bench press, bag work and skipping then drove home via the other gym, where I trained my boxercise chap. I did some exercise there, but not much, having already been in the other gym plenty. Bumped into my ballet teacher there too, she was up to have a look round and probably join up. Always so nice to see her, hopefully we'll see us at the gym too!
Monday had Boxercise, with another record turnout - and it was even numbers too, so I got to wander around coaching and 'being motivating' for the whole class, which I love to do. People said it as a great sesh and I'm happy with that!
We had a young woman of 18 turn up, dropped off by her dad - very brave to turn up to a class at any time - especially when you're quite young and everybody in my class is, frankly, getting on a bit!. I put her with K, who has a daughter of similar age, and they got on great.
I'm going to gym it myself today, and then Boxercise again this evening.

Happleandhorange · 11/02/2026 14:33

Scooted again. Art school update soon.

WickedGoodDoge · 11/02/2026 18:41

I know you are nearing the end of this thread but is it OK for me to jump in now instead of waiting for a new one? My DH used to regularly go to the gym with me which pushed me to not skip sessions, but he’s abandoned it for the time being (constant illnesses) and I need accountability!

I’m 57, currently trying to shed my usual half stone December weight gain. I really like hillwalking (in Scotland, currently working on bagging all of the munros solo, save some of the Skye ones where I’d like a guide!). I don’t hillwalking in the winter, though, so up the gym to 5 days a week- 2.5 cardio sessions and 2.5 pump/similar classes. I also enjoy indoor climbing with my DD when she is home from uni.

I feel like I’m posting a description for a dating website 😂

BezMills · 11/02/2026 20:13

Welcome @WickedGoodDoge !

WearyAuldWumman · 11/02/2026 21:02

Dropped car off at garage at 8.30 and had brisk 40+ minute walk home.
Missed one class because of the car situation. Made it to Active for Life.

Cardio: 10 minute HIIT, max 7 km ph plus cool down.

Side raises: (2) 6kg 3X5.
Shrugs: (2) 12 kg 3X10
Biceps curls (2) 6kg 3X10.

Stretches.

Happleandhorange · 12/02/2026 09:05

Hello Wicked!!!

Today was just dog walks.

BezMills · 12/02/2026 10:24

I did not in fact gym yesterday, but I did have a great Boxercise class in the evening. A new record for Wednesday, and it went well.

There were a couple of folk that were like 'oh yes I'm coming along and I'll bring my cousin too' (no show) but that happens. Something comes up, suddenly there's maybe the fear and some easy 'out'. I get it, and I'm not mad. I'll follow up and hopefully we'll see them at the next one!

Alittlefrustrated · 12/02/2026 21:56

I'd swipe right WickedGoodDoge 😂
I'm 57 tomorrow, and also have a bit of xmas weight to lose 😬
Wed - 55 mins pilates class
Qigong class
31/300
Today - 40 x 25m swim
32/300
I have my doggie friend tomorrow so looks like I'll be getting wet.

WickedGoodDoge · 12/02/2026 22:08

Hello everyone 😁

I did my usual Thursday evening gym- 30 minutes stretching class then 45 minutes of pump. I’d prefer the stretching to be after pump, but it’s the only time I can go to it.

I was a bit annoyed with DH tonight. I was out of protein drink earlier this week and he said he would get me more. I assumed he would get the same brand because a while back he tried a new one which was undrinkable, but no, he’d gone and bought yet another brand which also tastes nasty, so I’ve ordered the one I like myself.

FurForksSake · 12/02/2026 22:23

Hydrotherapy today, new location and an incredibly posh care home. I can’t even describe how nice it was inside, it was very very upmarket hotel vibes.

WearyAuldWumman · 12/02/2026 23:37

I'm cheating today. Apparently, I did 61 minutes 'brisk walking', so I'm counting that.

BezMills · 13/02/2026 09:20

61 minutes of brisk walking does 100% count!

I went up the local gym yesterday, and hit some HEVY sets on the deadlift. I'm using a hook grip where your thumb gets SQUISHED and my poor thumbs! I was pretty happy though, did some good work and I think next week I'll try for a new 1 rep max.

Then J from my boxercise class arrived and we went through the workout I've given him. Deadlift, squats, bench, seated row machine. We took turns on the bench and I did a new record for 1 rep, well pleased. Then I did the assisted pullups while he did the row.

Definitely a satisfactory gym visit, 10/10 would do again!

Alittlefrustrated · 13/02/2026 20:46

4.4 mile walk in snow and hail. Probably wouldn't of bothered if I wasn't looking after niece's dog. I couldn't deal with a little sad doggy face 😅
33/300
I was going to do some pilates tonight but my bellies too full 😳

WearyAuldWumman · 13/02/2026 21:53

Cardio this morning - just over 10 mins HIIT walking - max speed 7.1 kph. Cool down just ove 2 mins. Including cool down, over a kilometre. Max heart bpm was down to 157, so pleased about that.

Senior Flex Class: upper and lower body band work, abdominals, upper body seated work out with Les Mills 2.5 kg weights; stretches.

stilldumdedumming · 13/02/2026 22:05

Happy Birthday @Alittlefrustrated!🎂
I am a little behind in chat. We’ve been a little struck down here. Including a trip to the hospital early hours today (dp has brain damage so it can be a bit tricky when he’s ill - had to convince him the house wasn’t on fire this afternoon, for example!)

Anyway he’s on the mend hopefully so I have a Pilates session, 90 minutes yoga and an abs training to log.

Comtesse · 14/02/2026 08:42

Staying with husband’s family near the Alps and I’ve been skiing - twice! I struggle so much with skiing, the technique, the coordination, everything. I thought I would never go again but to help my kids who are complete beginners I said I would. Apparently really working on my fitness for the past year plus doing isometric exercises over the last 3 months makes a massive massive difference. I was able to keep going, stay upright, help the kids, and actually almost enjoy some of it. Honestly I’m so pleased with myself I cannot tell you. Improved fitness for a richer life, I guess….

Sorry to hear about the hospital trip @stilldumdedummingthat sounds a bit full on.

BezMills · 14/02/2026 08:43

Amazing @Comtesse

stilldumdedumming · 14/02/2026 18:22

@Comtessethats brilliant - what a reward! Thanks for your wishes- we are 6 years in and he’s very level headed so it’s not as dramatic as it sounds. As soon as he knows it’s me I can start talking him down and he will wait for his brain to catch up. It’s not the same as psychosis or dementia because he has some kind of insight. Tiring tho.

Anyway. I did 60 minutes of gentle Pilates today and my new physio (ouch).

we are in a class of 6-8 and we do most classes together. I missed yesterdays lower body, but apparently it was a tough one because there was a collective groan as we bent forward (including from the instructor!)

Alittlefrustrated · 14/02/2026 18:26

I'm jealous Comtesse!
Swim didn't go to plan this morning. The booking App said 3 booked in - it was absolutely stowed off with kids. I only managed 28 x 25m playing dodgems. But, I made the effort, so I'm counting it.
34/300

WickedGoodDoge · 15/02/2026 08:49

That’s great Comtess ! I grew up in New England so spent a lot of time skiing, but I’d be petrified to try it now.

Yesterday I did a 30 minute Lift class followed by 30 minutes on the bike. I weigh myself on Saturdays and was 1.4lbs down which puts me at a measly 3.2lbs overweight, though I would like to lose around 10lbs.

I’ll be heading to the gym at some point today to do cardio.
