Would anyone like to start C25K in the New Year that needs some time to get your head together?

I've done this before and am planning on restarting in January. I've gained some weight and lost some fitness but realistically now is not the time to start.

However I'm not one for last minute things and my head needs to get itself in the right place (and plan a diet). So with this in mind over Christmas and New Year I'm starting in January.

Anyone care to join me?

W4R2 run just done. Was planning to do it tomorrow morning but dh put his back out this afternoon trying to put his walking boots on when we had driven someone for a decent walk. Plans changed, painkillers and a drive back, so thought I’d better get out this evening to do some more steps! Feels good to get it done and means an extra 40mins in bed tomorrow morning 😀

upandoutofbed · 28/01/2024 19:07

@OfDragonsDeep that's amazing, what an achievement! I remember when I completed it the first time many moons ago I continued to listen to the w9r3 run for a couple of weeks afterwards, just for the verbal encouragement as I ran. I felt a bit lost not having someone tell me what to do!

All the very best this week everyone. Those who are nervous about the 20 minutes (as I was!), keep it slow and trust the process!

Well done. Are you likely to be doing week 5, run 3 this week? I think I'll be doing it next Saturday or Sunday.

@kirinm im going to try and aim for Sunday. I’d prefer to do it on the weekend if I can. Just depends how the earlier W5 runs go. I’m finding 5mins ok, hard to believe I could run 20 in a weeks time!

kirinm · 29/01/2024 08:41

@newbeliever yeah I'm struggling with the idea I'm going to be expected to run 20 mins by Sunday!

I'm trying to work out why I struggled to breathe yesterday. I'm asthmatic and it was quite cold first thing so maybe it was that. I think the first day of week 5 involves long gaps of walking so that'll help me but I just can't see my breathing being okay enough for me to stay running for 20 mins!

NewUser1111 · 29/01/2024 11:48

@kirinm I’m fellow asthmatic although mine is seasonal and affected by my hay fever. I’m getting wheezier now because the tree pollen is starting to increase. could that be a factor for you? I need to get a new inhaler as mine has run out - bit scary on runs!

No I've never been affected by pollen thankfully, I think it's just been a really long time since I ran outside regularly that my lungs are trying to get used to it. I find running on a treadmill much easier.

I have also just started my period so that may have contributed to yesterdays run feeling so difficult. I have personal training today so probably won't run until weds at the earliest.

minipie · 29/01/2024 15:03

W5 R2 today. Hopefully will do W5 r3 sometime this week - Friday latest.

tryingcouchto5K · 30/01/2024 09:45

Completed W2 now. Tomorrow will start W3R1. I don't get the breathing advice from Jo Wiley, breath in for 4, out for 4? That's too slow for me.

minipie · 30/01/2024 09:55

Agree trying, I think she says every two strides at some point. Just breathe when you need to breathe 😆

I do find breathing in through my nose and out through my mouth helps though, avoids really shallow breathing which I think is what her advice is aimed at?

kirinm · 30/01/2024 19:03

I'm onto my second PT session of the week and have now been exercising everyday since Saturday. My legs are dead so I don't think I'll run until Thursday now.

I will always include strength training into my exercise plans but it does get in the way of running because of the DOMS.

minipie · 30/01/2024 19:38

kirinm a gentle run actually helps DOMS. Just saying 😉

You do sound like you’ve done a lot though!!

I did upper body today so I'll be good for running on Thursday. I'm working in the office tomorrow so can't run even if I was DOMS free. I am soooo looking forward to sunny night evenings! (Or just light evenings).

kirinm · 01/02/2024 10:19

Aiming for week 5 run 1 today. I am definitely not feeling it and am really worried about the 20 min run coming up!

minipie · 01/02/2024 10:56

Go for it kirinm, even if it doesn’t go brilliantly it will be done! The 20 min is actually less deadly than it sounds, you just have to go really slowly.

I may try to run later if my delivery has arrived in time! Lovely sunny day.

tryingcouchto5K · 01/02/2024 15:58

It is a lovely sunny day to start Feb off with.
Completed W3R2 today. I think, I'll do week 3 twice before stepping up to W4. The 3 min runs seem like a long time but doable. So W5 has a 20 min run!

newbeliever · 01/02/2024 21:29

I ran W4R3 this morning, enjoyed it, there was a beautiful sunrise! Had a longer gap than I intended this week, but I’ve been practising the bleep test after work this week as I’m only two weeks away from doing the test. Was pleased I could manage it, so have been practising my technique! Planning to have a rest day tomorrow and will run Sat am and Sun pm. So reckon W5R3 will be Tues morning now.

@kirinm how did you get on today?
@tryingcouchto5K i repeated the W3 runs until I felt I was managing them well. It is strange how some runs are harder than others!
@minipie did you manage to get out?

NewUser1111 · 02/02/2024 14:49

W4R1 done this morning. I accidentally put the bloody thing off half way through and ended up running minutes longer than I was supposed to! Quite chuffed I managed it but absolutely knackered now and slumped on sofa

minipie · 02/02/2024 15:36

I went today - w5 r3 ! Hard work and got very out of breath but managed it.

minipie · 02/02/2024 15:37

Ah NewUser I remember doing that! Thinking “come on where the hell is Jo” and then realised she was paused…

NewUser1111 · 02/02/2024 16:16

Oh wow @minipie is that the 20 min one? Well done!!

cinnamonbiscuit · 02/02/2024 16:49

Another one here that's repeated week 3 😅 I just feel like the jump up in total minutes running in week 4 is pretty daunting! And I feel better about it once week 3 feels more manageable. Just about to do w4r1, wish me luck!

kirinm · 03/02/2024 10:08

Was meant to be running this morning but found out I'm meant to be watching my DD's dance class all morning so it'll have to be this afternoon.

minipie · 03/02/2024 10:18

I do a lot of repeating too! Whatever works for you - I feel better if am managing the runs properly before I move on rather than just about surviving !

I’ll be running with DD today so will probably go back to w5 r2 and see how she does with that.

Weather looking quite rainy from mid next week 😬

newbeliever · 03/02/2024 14:31

Well I managed W5R1 this morning, felt hard work, legs were heavy. Managed to finish it but didn’t feel like I smashed it 😀 In two minds whether to repeat or try W5R2 tomorrow evening and see what happens!

Well done @minipie for completing W5R3! How did it feel?? I’m already thinking I need to plan a nice flat route to stand a chance of completing it! @kirinm i think you might just pip me to the R3 post! 😀
