Would anyone like to start C25K in the New Year that needs some time to get your head together?

I've done this before and am planning on restarting in January. I've gained some weight and lost some fitness but realistically now is not the time to start.

However I'm not one for last minute things and my head needs to get itself in the right place (and plan a diet). So with this in mind over Christmas and New Year I'm starting in January.

Anyone care to join me?

Hello again everyone.

I've had a health scare to deal with in the last couple of weeks which is going to keep me out of action for another few days. So stressful, and I've been eating (and drinking, I'm ashamed to say) too much so need a new start.

I'm not giving in.. this has just underlined how important our health is.

Well done to all who are sticking with it.

We will do it 💪

Life really gets in the way at times. I think people often think that me saying 'I literally don't have time' think I'm making excuses but they don't understand my job or my home life. The only people who do seem to understand are my partner (because he has the same time constraints) or my colleagues who understand the job.

Im hoping to do week 4 this week. I really need to run today, weds and Friday as the weekend is a potential write off as I'm having dental treatment on Friday afternoon and I'm not sure whether I'll be in pain or not afterwards!

I also have 2 personal training sessions so trying to fit in a lot. Good luck to those running this week.

NewUser1111 · 22/01/2024 12:31

Thanks @newbeliever i made it out this morning so hoping to stick to it this week.

sorry to hear of your worries @Houseplanter Fingers crossed it’ll be behind you soon and you can crack on with the running

I made it out this morning in the sun and it was lovely, but I was wheezing by the time I got back!

FastingPhilly · 22/01/2024 21:34

Week 4 Run 1 done!

3 mins/ 5 mins/ 3 mins / 5 mins - was ok as again I did the runs downhill mainly

newbeliever · 24/01/2024 08:09

Morning everyone, I did manage to fit in W3R3 yesterday morning before work, felt good to get it done, though combined with my walk to work, by the time I got in I felt shattered!

@kirinm i totally get the “not having time’ especially when weather factors prevent us from getting out in the tiny window we do have. I know I just have to get up earlier and suck up the running in the dark but it’s so hard!

Well done @NewUser1111 and @FastingPhilly for getting out too and keeping going.

@Houseplanter sorry to hear you’ve had a health scare, hope you’re ok and able to continue your c25k journey soon.

kirinm · 24/01/2024 09:32

Finished W4R1. Wow I have heavy legs from personal training but determined to get these runs in and finish the app.

Well done @kirinm ! I’m a day behind you, hoping to complete the same run tomorrow. Impressed you’re doing personal training too!

upandoutofbed · 25/01/2024 08:57

Another one who finds it difficult to fit runs in too. I can only manage it when I work from home or weekends. But after a 5 day break just completed w5r2 🙌. The next run is 20 minutes, yikes. But Jo Whiley tells me I can do it!

tryingcouchto5K · 25/01/2024 09:21

On W2 now. Hoping to get to the gym later for W2R2.It was okay, I haven't been clock watching this second time around so I think this slower pace suits me better.

minipie · 25/01/2024 10:43

Well my restart died a quick death due to blasted cough/cold. But that’s on its way out so hoping to run tomorrow. Forecast says sun🤞

Well done to those keeping at it!

newbeliever · 26/01/2024 13:32

Hope you got on ok today @minipie it is a beautiful day to be out for a run! Good luck to you @upandoutofbed for the W5R3 run, it’s such a milestone!

My plans have been scuppered yet again this week. Had a migraine the last coup,e of days, feeling better today but still delicate and don’t feel up to running. Really hoping I feel well enough to go tomorrow morning, then I can squeeze another one in Sunday eve before back to work on Monday.

An upside to my migraine is I haven’t felt hungry at all, so diet going well! 😀 Lost 4kg to date, gone a notch up on my belt when wearing jeans, happy with that, though still another 4kg to go to be out of the overweight BMI and then another 11kg to get to my ideal weight.
@Houseplanter im still visualising myself being back down to ideal weight and running for 30mins by the time I hit the summer, got 4 months to achieve it! How are you getting on this week, have you managed to get started again?

Hope you all have good weekends and I really hope I’m able to share that I’ve completed some W4 runs by the end of the weekend!

minipie · 26/01/2024 18:29

Have to admit I didn’t go 😔 still coughing, was up late last evening with ill DC2 and too much else to do today! Excuses excuses…

kirinm · 26/01/2024 20:04

I didn't run today - my golden opportunity is the morning but I didn't do it and instead promised myself I'd do it at lunchtime but my motivation was pretty poor.

I will finish week 4 this week though so going to need to run tomorrow and Saturday

Houseplanter · 26/01/2024 20:16

Hello everyone

Firstly well done to everyone who is soldiering on, despite time constraints and setbacks.

Thank you to those who have sent good wishes. It's been quite a rough couple of weeks but the nhs has been amazing and I'm hopeful I'll only have excuses to stop me after the weekend.

Let's do this for our health; our clothes size is just a bonus

Week 4 run 2 done. I'm starting to worry about the 20 min run next week! Found the 5 mins difficult.

upandoutofbed · 27/01/2024 12:51

Hi everyone, sending love to those who are poorly or still in recovery and hope you're back on track soon. It is a difficult time of year - so many bugs around and still not many daylight hours.

I did w5r3 this morning - 20 minutes whoop! So happy as this is the most I've done for 4 years. It was absolutely fine but I went super slow - I think that's the key.

FastingPhilly · 27/01/2024 13:20

Week 4, Run 3 done. Not looking forward to the 8 mins run next week! I think I may have to do Week 5 twice

newbeliever · 27/01/2024 18:23

W4R1 for me today, was worried about the 5min runs so ran slightly slower so I could be sure I would complete it. It was fine so will try upping the pace a little tomorrow evening. Also went out for a big walk with dh today, was 5 miles and such a steep hill at the end climbing the downs, felt more exhausted doing that than my run this morning!

Well done @upandoutofbed such an achievement. I’m starting to worry about the 20min run, I just can’t imagine myself being able to do it in just over a week! @kirinm @FastingPhilly we’re all on target for the W5R3 in the next week. @minipie did you manage to get out today?

minipie · 27/01/2024 19:04

Well done everyone especially upandout for smashing that 20 minute barrier!

I did manage to run today, my 11yo has decided she wants to start running so we went together!! No getting out of it given she was all togged up andbdead keen 😆 Went back to w5 r1 which was a good level for us both. It was lovely actually.

Browniesandcustard · 28/01/2024 00:05

Sending 💐 to everyone still doing what they can or who are recovering or injured.
managed Wk 4 run 1 here this morning. Redid Wk 3 run 3 3 times as wasn't sure I’d make wk 4 but I felt ok so if anyone is doubting themselves it might be worth just re doing a week?

kirinm · 28/01/2024 10:36

Week 4, run 3 done but god that felt hard. It was more my breathing than legs (although they were struggling too).

I was going to run tomorrow too but I think I might need a rest day. Taking my DD swimming today which doesn't involve much for me other than floating so perhaps that'll help.

Good luck to everyone running today

OfDragonsDeep · 28/01/2024 12:50

Made it to week 9 today! I have been doing the week 9 runs this week though in week 8. It’s 28 vs 30 mins of running. I find the first 15 mins the hardest and then it gets (slightly!) easier.

I think that 20 mins run at the end of week 5 is mentally really important as once you do that, it’s not much more to 25 then 28 etc. I went super slow and was able to do it.

im so proud of myself, could barely run 1 min in the first week to running 30 mins now. I want to keep with it after I finish the program, but I think I need the app guide to keep me going. I’m still really slow, but if I stick with it hopefully I’ll get faster.

kirinm · 28/01/2024 13:02

@OfDragonsDeep amazing work and congratulations!!

newbeliever · 28/01/2024 13:33

@minipie well done for getting out, nice to run with your dd, takes me back to when I did the c25k first time round with my dd in lock down.
@Browniesandcustard sounds like we’ve taken a similar approach repeating the week 3 runs. I tend to do this if I’ve had a big gap between runs or I’m just struggling to complete it and need to stop during a final run.

@kirinm well done for keeping going even if it felt hard. It is strange how some runs are harder than others and not always the ones you expect it to be.

@OfDragonsDeep amazing!! So good to hear people who are completing it who found the 1 min runs hard, gives me hope and reminds me what a good system the c25k is. Definitely find something to keep you motivated and running, this has tripped me up both times before. I like having someone tell me what to do and how to improve. How about doing a local park run? I plan to start those once I have finished.
