Would anyone like to start C25K in the New Year that needs some time to get your head together?

I've done this before and am planning on restarting in January. I've gained some weight and lost some fitness but realistically now is not the time to start.

However I'm not one for last minute things and my head needs to get itself in the right place (and plan a diet). So with this in mind over Christmas and New Year I'm starting in January.

Anyone care to join me?

I've not run at all this week so far. I just haven't managed it. I'm trying not to be too disappointed in myself. I'll definitely run tomorrow and was geared up to go today but lost motivation after watching 2 hours of dance class.

Ahh don’t be too hard on yourself @kirinm we are all doing so well to have even started! Life does get in the way sometimes, the main thing is that we don’t give up and keep going. Have a good run tomorrow 😊

kirinm · 04/02/2024 10:38

W5R1 done. The acid build up in my shins was baaaad.

kirinm · 04/02/2024 11:15

Really need to remember the endorphin kick after a run. Feels terrible until you've finished running and then you're set for the day!

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 04/02/2024 21:24

I did W1R2 today, with the first one about 10 days ago ! Definitely want to get in the rhythm.

NewUser1111 · 06/02/2024 18:48

I did W4R2 last night and I’m whispering this in case life turns round to bite me on the arse but I think my fitness levels are definitely improving a bit. I haven’t found it quite as hard going in recent days. Still can’t bring myself to contemplate W5 though! How’s everyone else doing?

NewUser1111 · 06/02/2024 18:48

@kirinm the endorphins are amazing! I’m such a much nicer and happier person when I’ve been out - I think my DP definitely wants me to keep going just for that lol

FastingPhilly · 06/02/2024 18:52

W5 R2 done today! I thought it was the 20 min run so was a bit surprised when she said to walk after 8 mins 😁 As it was I carried on for a bit so did 2 x 10 min runs

Well done! Hopefully the 20 min run will be a breeze.

I'm running tomorrow morning.

NewUser1111 · 06/02/2024 19:28

@FastingPhilly well done! You’ll be fine with the 20 min run at that rate

FastingPhilly · 06/02/2024 21:40

Thank you @kirinm and @NewUser1111 🏃x

kirinm · 07/02/2024 09:29

W5R2 done. It wasn't quite as horrific as I'd imagined but not feeling massively confident about the next one.

CheeseSandwichRiskAssessment · 07/02/2024 10:00

I did W1R2 for a second time yesterday because I forgot to mark the first as completed ! Won't make that mistake again. Will hopefully do W1R3 today.

Hello everyone!

Wow you're all running away from me, literally. A massive well done to all of you 👏🏻

Im about ready to start again, having recovered from treatment I unexpectedly needed. I know the NHS can be dire but I have nothing but praise and gratitude for them right now.

I do seem to lost all my impetus though.. if anyone has any words of encouragement or motivation I need to hear them

Glad to hear you're feeling a lot better.

I think it is just a case of getting out there knowing that it'll take a few weeks before you have formed any sort of habit and don't need to force yourself out. I think I'm just about getting into that territory. I really want to be able to run outside like I used to. I half look forward to the runs but don't enjoy them yet. If in a few weeks I can run on a regular basis for 30 mins or run a 5km I will be ecstatic.

kirinm · 09/02/2024 09:31

Woohoo. W5, R3 done. That was hard but once I'd hit 15 mins there was no way I was stopping.

NewUser1111 · 09/02/2024 09:34

Well done @kirinm, what an achievement!

I’ve been terrible with running this week- bloody rain.

minipie · 09/02/2024 10:58

Well done kirinm! Brilliant achievement. It’s mind over body!

Houseplanter you’ve just had surprise medical treatment, it‘s fair enough if it takes you a while to get your mojo back.

We are on the same timeline - I did it too today! What a feeling, so proud of myself

Well done running twin @kirinm 👭😁

upandoutofbed · 10/02/2024 09:35

Back out there after more than a week's break - work, life, health got in the way. W6r1 completed.

@Houseplanter glad that you're recovered and hope you're back in your running shoes soon. It is daunting to start again after a break - this is my third try in the last year (and the furthest I've got)! And I still feel resistance each morning. But I feel so much better for having done it, and also for being out in nature and fresh air. I hope you're back out there soon.

newbeliever · 10/02/2024 12:45

@kirinm well done!! I wimped out this morning and did w5R2 again! Aiming to do R3 on Monday 😊

In my head I'd told myself I could do 10 mins, walking break and another 10 mins but once I got to 10 mins I felt like I could manage just a little bit more. Still terrified about the thought of having to do it again but for a bit further!

@upandoutofbed well done. I'm doing that run tomorrow. How did you find it?

upandoutofbed · 10/02/2024 13:20

@kirinm well done for getting w5r3 out of the way! W6r1 was more of a consolidation run (5 8 5) so although I still find them all tough, psychologically it was fine having previously done 20 minutes straight. I've had a peek ahead and the next biggie is w6r3 - 25 minutes, yikes. I'm sure you'll do great tomorrow!

@newbeliever hope it goes well on Monday.

OfDragonsDeep · 11/02/2024 10:29

I finished yesterday! Such a great feeling! I carried on the run to 5km so I could say I’d done it 😂 Had to go further away from my house so I could keep going downhill though.

It took a week longer than planned as I got a cough so had a few days off. It’s definitely mind over matter at this point (as long as there’s no actual injury)

Am going to carry on with the 30 mins runs to see if I can start to do them without my heart rate going so high or maybe include a few more (small!) hills. I definitely feel fitter now.

Well done to everyone getting through week 5, that’s a huge step 😊

kirinm · 11/02/2024 10:58

W6R1 done with an added 5 mins at the end. That felt hard. My breathing was all over the place and now I'm dreading the next runs. If I complete the next run, it'll be the furthest I've ever got with this app.
