Would anyone like to start C25K in the New Year that needs some time to get your head together?

I've done this before and am planning on restarting in January. I've gained some weight and lost some fitness but realistically now is not the time to start.

However I'm not one for last minute things and my head needs to get itself in the right place (and plan a diet). So with this in mind over Christmas and New Year I'm starting in January.

Anyone care to join me?

Oh, forgot to say, I haven’t run today . . Meant to this morning but was running late for a coffee catchup and didn’t have the hour spare that I needed. Think it will be tomorrow morning now, if I don’t go first thing, it tends to not happen!

Happierwithouthim · 24/02/2024 19:44

Thanks newbeliever I've kept up walking 2/3 times a week alright.
I hadn't realised week 5 had 20 min run in it! I did it today, got on grand but I definitely need music so I'm going to try get that sorted this week.

NewUser1111 · 25/02/2024 18:35

My god, I ran on the seafront today and my ears and head hurt so much from the cold. Won’t be doing that again soon!

I’m going to attempt week 5 this week. Reading about all of you doing so well is spurring me on.

@Houseplanter how are you doing? Have you managed to get out? I hope you’re getting back to full health even if no running is happening

Well done on completing the 20 min run! Definitely sort out a decent playlist, I couldn’t run for that long without something to distract me!

I ran W7R2 this morning, did the same route as the other day as I’d had a good run. Wasn’t such a good idea, as I could visualise the whole route in front of me and it seemed such a long way! Couldn’t quite believe I could run that distance but settled into it, had a few tricky minutes around 18-20mins in where I felt like stopping but was able to keep going, distract myself and even managed another spurt at the end where I speed it up for the last minute.

@NewUser1111 i would love to live near enough the coast to run along the sea front. 😊

@kirinm i hope you’re feeling better and ready to run again next week.

kirinm · 25/02/2024 19:50

@newbeliever well done! You're steaming through it now. W7R1 tomorrow for me. Definitely feeling better than I was. Aiming for the full 3 runs this week. Scary that it's now all running.

Not sure steaming is the right word! 😅 Though I can’t quite believe I’ll be on Week 8 soon.

Good luck tomorrow, it’s definitely a mindset shift doing straight runs. Every time Laura says, ‘are you ready’ after the initial 5 min walk, I say no!! 🤣 But we are ready for it having completed the previous runs, it is a great system. To think just two months ago I couldn’t even run 60 seconds without feeling puffed out!

Houseplanter · 26/02/2024 10:23

Hi everyone..

Still following the thread and admiring how well you're all doing.

I have lost all my mojo.. have improved my diet significantly but just can't find my get up and go...

Feel a complete fraud being on this thread and really wish I was there with you all; maybe soon.

@Houseplanter I have you to thank as I might not have started couch to 5k had I not spotted your post over Christmas. I really felt we were both in a similar situation with our diets and fitness. Even though I’ve made progress with my fitness, my diet still needs attention! So we’ll done for making healthy changes to your diet.

Be kind to yourself, you’ve had a tough few months with your health scare. With the lighter evenings coming and hopefully better weather, now would be a great time to pick up C25K again. The hardest run is the first one you do after a break, you’ll feel so much better for going out and doing that next run, might even help your mojo too.

kirinm · 26/02/2024 11:24

@Houseplanter you definitely need to be in the fright frame of mind to get through the app. I've never got passed the last run I did so this is a major success for me but I knew that I wanted this to be the year I got back into running. It took about 3 weeks for me to actually enjoy / not hate it.

I agree with @newbeliever whenever you're ready, you'll feel so much better for it when you get that first run done.

I was hoping to finish the app this week but I've still got a few more weeks because for the last couple of weeks I've only managed 1 run a week due to life / sickness. I'm really aiming for 3 this week 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Happierwithouthim · 26/02/2024 12:47

I had a podcast from spotify talking me through the session so it wasn't complete silence, I also ran by the sea for some of it, and it is lovely although I prefer to run the road but have the sea within view if possible, it just gives you a boost.

I normally have free time to run Mon eve & Tues eve, however this week I don't. Getting waxing done this eve so running is out, and tomorrow I've a meeting while I've got free time. My pockets of childfree time are not plentiful this week but I'll try to get a run in somewhere.

Bumped into my cousin on Sat and turns out she's got a half booked for beg of June so I'll see how I'm going by then.

kirin & newbeliever you're giving me inspo!

kirinm · 26/02/2024 14:22

Well I found that hideously difficult. I had to walk at 18 mins for about 90s so I don't know if I've got to do the run again.

kirinm · 26/02/2024 14:26

I guess the next two runs are the same anyway so I'll see how I feel at the end of the 3rd run. It was my asthma. I don't as so wheezy.

kirinm · 26/02/2024 14:27

Can barely type. I meant I was so wheezy and I couldn't breathe properly from about 5 mins in.

NewUser1111 · 26/02/2024 18:58

Do you go out with your inhaler @kirinm

i feel for you- it can be quite scary when you feel yourself getting short of breath and hard to keep motivating yourself to keep going when you think it’s only going to get worse

mine you 18 mins is still a brilliant achievement!

kirinm · 26/02/2024 20:01

@NewUser1111 yeah I always take my inhaler but I was so wheezy that really I needed to stop but I didn't want to stop so kept going and tried using my inhaler as I was running.

There are always runs that are harder than normal for no good reason so I just have to chalk this up as one of them and hope the next one is better!

Freshstarts24 · 27/02/2024 12:00

Just finished week 7. I pushed myself and managed to keep going to 30 mins which was 3.7km. I really want to get to 5k but it’s likely to be closer to 45 mins.
I have a 10k race planned in tbe summer so need to find a way to keep pushing after week 9.

Amazing! Well done. I was thinking the same re what to do next.

I've read that the Nike runner app is quite good. Not sure if that's training to improve 5km speed or to increase distance though.

@kirinm Sounds like a tough run but you did well for getting out especially after feeling unwell last week. See how you get on with the runs this week.

I’ve finished W7R3 this morning and found it tough. Didn’t enjoy the last 10mins, did exactly the same route but found it harder. Why is running like this?! Nothing changed same early morning run before breakfast, same route … only good thing is the next run after a hard run is usually better! 🤪

I’m tempted to repeat the W7 runs a few more times until I feel happier running for 25mins.

@Freshstarts24 well done for finishing W7 too, especially running for 30mins, there is no way I could have done that this morning, I was counting the mins to stop!

@Happierwithouthim ahh nice of you to say we’re inspiring you 😊 I have to say I’m encouraged by everyone on this thread. I’m finding this running lark has hi’s and lo’s and this thread is brilliant for keeping me motivated especially after a tricky run!

kirinm · 28/02/2024 11:21

@newbeliever well done! I'm aiming to go out and try W7R2 this lunchtime. It's freezing outside though!

kirinm · 28/02/2024 12:39

Trying to psych myself up to go. I absolutely hate being cold and I feel freezing inside so it's making it hard!

Freshstarts24 · 28/02/2024 14:30

I love running when it’s freezing as I get so hot so quick I don’t know how I’ll cope with warmer weather. At the moment I’m running in the cold in just a t shirt.

I did go extremely slow which probably helped

newbeliever · 28/02/2024 16:27

I’m another lover of the cold as I can hide my wobbly bits under a few layers! 😀 I like wearing the tight running leggings but wouldn’t feel confident wearing them without something covering my bum!

@kirinm did you get out?!
@Freshstarts24 I was going very slow today, you’re doing brilliantly to keep going to 30mins!

kirinm · 28/02/2024 17:51

I didn't go 🫣

Another days rest isn't going to hurt so I don't feel too bad. I really do need to go first thing in the morning as I am rubbish at forcing myself out halfway through the day.
