Would anyone like to start C25K in the New Year that needs some time to get your head together?

I've done this before and am planning on restarting in January. I've gained some weight and lost some fitness but realistically now is not the time to start.

However I'm not one for last minute things and my head needs to get itself in the right place (and plan a diet). So with this in mind over Christmas and New Year I'm starting in January.

Anyone care to join me?

W6R2 done. Felt okay breathing wise but my legs ached. Not excited about the next run!

Well done! I completed W6R2 as well this morning. Felt ok, sometimes with the second run I struggle but today wasn’t a problem. Think I did need the extra rest day yesterday!

Planning to do R3 on Monday morning, will do a new route altogether to try and mix it up a bit and distract myself!

@NewUser1111 I did that too. 😊 I think there’s a a few of us who felt we needed to redo some weeks if the gap was too big between runs or to just feel more ready and comfortable about the runs before moving on.

Hope everyone else has a good weekend!

kirinm · 18/02/2024 10:12

I had a personal training session today but am still going to aim to do R3 tomorrow. Long term PT should help the running and vice versa.

minipie · 18/02/2024 16:58

W6 R1 this morning with DD after a week’s gap. We have done a lot of walking up hills at half term though so guess that kept the fitness up. I was very red 😳

newbeliever · 19/02/2024 10:43

Well done @minipie i think walking does help if you have a gap between runs.

Well I did W6R3 this morning . . . I did finish it but I can’t say I enjoyed it! I found the first 5mins hard, wasn’t feeling comfortable and felt daunted by the 25min run time. Between 5 - 10mins took a lot to keep going and not give up, was seriously fighting the urge not to stop. Thankfully by the 12min mark, I had finally entered the ‘zone’ and was running without thinking about it, I carried on like this until the end. I was starting to feel tired during the final couple of mins, but my body was on autopilot and kept going. How I wish I could enter the ‘zone’ earlier! Not sure what the answer is, anyone have any wisdom on this?? Let me know how you get on @kirinm 😊

This is amazing! Well done! When I was running regular, unfortunately the first 10 mins or so were always the worst. This really is such a massive achievement.

I have insane DOMS today but am going to try to go out at lunchtime. I'm going to try not to beat myself up if I don't manage it but at the same time, really don't want it to become a psychological battle or a run I convince myself I can't do - so I really do need to do it.

kirinm · 19/02/2024 10:47

I do spend quite a lot time on a run trying to work out where to run and where to find hills. I think I've decided on where I'll go today which will be a completely different route than I've done so far.

Ahh thank you for the encouragement. It is an achievement, but knowing the battle that was going on in my head it almost feels like I didn’t do it! I’m going to have to think of something to distract me for the first 10mins if this is going to be a theme going forward.

Good luck for later, definitely don’t beat yourself up if you find it tough, sounds like you’ve already done a lot of exercise over the weekend!

Are you hunting for hills because you like running up or down them?! I spend most of my run thinking of the flattest route with as few a hills as possible! 😅

kirinm · 19/02/2024 11:22

@newbeliever absolutely down them!

newbeliever · 19/02/2024 12:59

kirinm · 19/02/2024 11:22

@newbeliever absolutely down them!

I thought you were on another level looking to run up hills! 🤣 I live on a steep hill so I start my run by either walking up or down it and not returning to my road until the run is finished!

kirinm · 20/02/2024 08:30

I didn't run as I was feeling a bit iffy only to end up with full on d&v bug by 5pm. Hoping it was a very short lived thing.

tryingcouchto5K · 20/02/2024 10:30

Well done to all those getting out. I am repeating W3 again before moving onto W4. So redid W3 R1 last night. I think I need to do them a bit more regularly so will definitely have another go tomorrow evening.

cinnamonbiscuit · 20/02/2024 20:16

Well done everyone for powering through!

Have just started the dreaded week 5, but run 1 today was so so much easier than I was expecting, I think I've reached the point where 5 minutes isn't difficult any more so I need to get on with it.

Wasn't doing this to lose weight (although I did need to), but checked today and I've lost 15lb since the start of Jan, a combo of couch to 5k and a slight calorie deficit seems to be the magic formula for me!

Wish me luck for week 5 run 3 😬

kirinm · 21/02/2024 08:00

I'm still not well enough to run :(

Aiming for Friday.

newbeliever · 21/02/2024 11:03

Oh gosh @kirinm i hope you’re feeling better soon.

@cinnamonbiscuit all the best for week 5, it’s quite a milestone completing run 3!

Im due to do W7R1 but wimping out because of the weather this morning. Think I’ve missed the boat now and will have to try and motivate myself to go later this afternoon which I always find hard.

newbeliever · 21/02/2024 11:09

Also just dawned on me that there are no more intervals! All the remaining runs are 25mins, 28 mins and building up to 30mins in week 9 😬 I miss the intervals! 😅

newbeliever · 22/02/2024 21:04

Completed W7R1 this morning. Thought I’d dodged the showers and it then chucked it down 5 mins in! Strangely ok as it distracted me from running. I felt much more comfortable today, found my groove quicker and didn’t have the battle in my head this time. I was even able to increase my speed a bit for the last minute!

kirinm · 23/02/2024 07:12

Well done @newbeliever you're doing so well!

upandoutofbed · 23/02/2024 08:38

Well done to all those who are getting through it. I had yet another blip, so just got out for my first run in weeks. I've restarted again at week 5, and lovely to be out under blue skies.

I'm trying to reframe it a bit. I'm so driven to achieve the goal of completing the programme, and ticking off the runs, but really I need to start focusing on the process more and try and appreciate each individual run/the positive effect it has on my physical and mental health.

kirinm · 23/02/2024 09:20

I was hoping to run today but I'm still feeling quite unwell when I wake up - although do seem to perk up as the day goes on.

Happierwithouthim · 23/02/2024 12:57

Glad I found this thread, I started my own yesterday but you guys are perfectly matched at where I'm at. Can I join in?
Was meant to do W5D3 this morning but I was wrecked yesterday and there were hailstones so I decided to defer to Sunday instead.

I have completed C25K a few times, and promised myself when I got back under 12st I would run again. I started running a few weeks ago but just doing what I felt like, but then I booked a half marathon for Sept so needed a plan. Started with W3D1, found it easy so did W4D1 and that was also ok, so moved to Week 5.

kirinm · 24/02/2024 11:02

Going to try W6R3 today. Still not feeling 100% so am going to try not to put too much pressure on myself.

kirinm · 24/02/2024 11:03

Should say, I'm on day 2 of my period which isn't helping at all!

kirinm · 24/02/2024 12:11

I did it!!! My legs were fine but I struggled with my breathing over the last 10 mins. This is the furthest I've ever got with this app and I'm over the moon. Especially as I'm really not feeling my best.

newbeliever · 24/02/2024 16:30

Yay, well done @kirinm !! Sounds like you’ve had such a rough week, so really we’ll done for getting out there and sticking with it 😊

Welcome @Happierwithouthim, well done for getting started again especially booking a half marathon, I would definitely need a plan for that! Sounds like your fitness hadn’t tailed off too much if you have been able to jump in at week 5, there’s no way I could have done that.

@upandoutofbed i agree with you, I’m also very focussed on achieving each run and then I feel lost at the end and not sure how to motivate myself to keep going. I am trying to enjoy myself, enjoy being out in the fresh air and the health benefits that being more active means. I certainly feel significantly better compared to how I was feeling after Christmas!

How are you doing Op @Houseplanter ? Have you managed to get back into the swing of things again?
