I have been trying on and off to lose weight for the past year but now planning to really exercise 3 times a week if I can and cut down on the sugary crap I eat. A but part of it is the habit of wanting something sweet after dinner when I don't even really want it.

I'm going to sign back in. I thought I was strong enough to avoid the temptation involved in family birthdays but alas, I was not Sad but I have renewed focus now and want to start feeling a bit better so here we go.
I've started a 16 hr fast from this evening and am not eating any processed food or food with sugar, except fruit.

mollie7 · 19/09/2023 22:31

I have 20kgs to lose, I'm no good at dieting though. I'm going to stay away from snacks and sugar and try to stick to my 3 meals a day.

amiboverd · 20/09/2023 09:04

I just don't seem to be losing weight so I'm clearly not doing enough! I usually eat so much sugary food so you'd think cutting it out would make a difference

I'm going to do some body combat now - over an hour later than planned as my DH is being really difficult at the moment. I don't know what to do about that but maybe the workout will help me let off some steam

I weight about 3-4lb more than I did in July. I have a family party coming up in 2-3
weeks so maybe I need to step up a bit to lose more weight before then!

welcome back @DynamicK

I think I'm similar to you @mollie7

I've done half an hour of body combat. I would have done more but needed to start work. I feel like I had a good workout though. I'm a bit hungry now and thinking about food so may have some porridge.

Do any of you have porridge and if so what do you put in it? I feel like I have to have sugar in it but that's obviously not massively healthy! I try to reduce the amount at least but I think I have to have some in!

Yesterday was a write off, I don't know if it was because it's suddenly become so cold, wet and miserable but I couldn't stop thinking about food and in fact eating it too! I only managed a short 2 mile walk and just couldn't be arsed to do any other exercise.
However, I weighed this morning and I've lost just under 2lbs since we started this. I know it's not much but I struggle to ever lose any weight no matter what I do.
Today is stormy so no walk but I did do 30 minutes light weights and a 30 minute stretch routine.
amiboverd I have porridge most days and cannot cope without maple syrup or golden syrup either 🙄

Hey all. I avoided the thread for a couple of days because healthy eating went out the window. But I’ve been keeping up with the exercise and feeling good about it. I’ve done a couple more spin classes and actually enjoy it now! I’m really pleased to have found something I like. I’m going to try a bootcamp style circuit class this evening too.

Now if only I could nail the eating, things would be great.

amiboverd · 20/09/2023 13:13

@Bippertyboo2 That's really good!

@donkey86 Well done on the exercise!

hello can I join in please - I typed a long message but lost it searching for a name to thank 🙈 anyway thanks to the poster who listed workouts to try am going to try and work my way up the list!

well done on workouts yesterday everyone. I did some stationary cycling with a bit of Michael Mosley style hiit in the middle.

I roughly started 3 weeks ago and have lost 6lbs - so close to dropping into the 13 stone bracket (am almost 5ft4). Am logging on chronometer app trying to make sure I cover off my vitamins, get protein to 100g, fat approx 70g, carbs under 100g and fibre over 30g - making it complicated helps me keep on track! Am avoiding ultra processed food and my blood pressure is already down from slightly higher than optimal to back in the healthy range. Drs said I needed a health check before looking into hrt for Slightly early perimeno so this is good hopefully and might make up for my high bmi when I finally book the follow up. Sorry for long post

amiboverd · 21/09/2023 11:19

welcome @Burntumber ! Sounds like you're doing well

I have a busy day today so probably won't have time to snack unless there's cake at the conference I'm on my way to (there could be).

I picked up a meal deal on my way in - croissant for breakfast, hummous and falafel wrap and a Tropicana juice. Not sure how healthy / unhealthy these pre-made sandwiches are but it won't be too bad if that's all I eat until about 6! Can't imagine the canapés at the conference will be healthy.

Probably won't have time to exercise today but I've decided to use the two days I go into the office as rest days.

hope everyone has a good day!

OP posts:
amiboverd · 21/09/2023 19:41

I have done zero exercise, at a meal deal for lunch and then a few (5?) small canapés at an event. That's all I've had so not that bad but I dread to think how many calories were in those tiny canapés!

I managed to say no to the brownies and donuts.

PS I also had wine (1 glass)

now I just want to get home

how has everyone else's day been!

OP posts:
Burntumber · 21/09/2023 21:37

Well done on saying no to cake @amiboverd donuts are extra hard for me to resist!

My Food was pretty ok today but found it hard to get protein high without fat going too high . . Was soo tired this afternoon too.

thjnk I am going to try Lucy Wyndham read tomorrow- prob go with the shortest one!

amiboverd · 22/09/2023 07:10

@Burntumber Thank you!

do you track your macros?

I think I may need to more specifically track calories as I don't think I'm making any progress this way, or maybe I am but it will just be very slow progress. I can't see how cutting out most of the sweet things I eat wouldn't ultimately impact my weight...

I just looked up Lucy Windham Read - I might give her workouts a go too

OP posts:
Burntumber · 22/09/2023 09:40

I am mainly trying to get enough protein and keep carbs down but my fat % is averaging out at about 48% which seems kind of high.

did you do a workout? I did Lucy Wyndham reed 10 minute total body. I like it but was confused and doing the demo as well so it ended up kind of fast paced 😅 I was confused why her week 4 routines were all so short but it looks as though they work in a progression to build up to a long 4 unit workout by week 4. Think I will do my ‘spin’ bike tomorrow- it’s more like a slow revolve bike with me on it though!

HouseofHolbein · 22/09/2023 10:31

Morning! I'm sort of fasting and today I did 20 minutes on the treadmill and 15 on the bike. I need to make sure I do something every morning as work isn't as active as my last job so I need to give myself a boost.

Just about to have a shower and weigh myself 😊

amiboverd · 22/09/2023 14:06

@Burntumber I just plan to do the blogilates arms, abs and legs exercises today and I've also just eaten my M&Ms but I bought them over two weeks ago and they were open as DH as most of them so that makes me feel like May be a treat is due but then also that attitude is not helping me at all 😂

@HouseofHolbein Thats good if you're also not eating much but go easy! Hope the weigh result was what you hoped for 🤞

Just checking in as it's been a busy week (with 17 events on the calendar in 7 days between the 2 teenage dc and me!) Until today, I'd done pretty well for the week, apart from chocolate after a stressful drive and hospital appointment on Wednesday. On Sunday, I did an hour of football skills, an hour each day in the gym on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and ran 5k yesterday. Rest day today after a long, sedentary day at work. Contemplating a little walk in the dark!! I have lost 1kg in the week since I began, which is good for me, doing slightly adapted Body Coach, but in danger of putting it back on this weekend, with friends coming over for wine and nibbles tomorrow. I have zero self control!! I am playing 45 minutes of football on Sunday and coaching football tomorrow and Sunday as well.

I'm in the same boat. I exercise loads, as you can see, but I also eat too much chocolate, especially when stressed.

amiboverd · 23/09/2023 12:46

You do loads though @BaffledOnceAgain

I had a bit of a day off yesterday and had some m&ms and then a mcflurry after dinner out

I'm definitely feeling a change in my mindset as that felt like an exception and I'm going to reassess later. I seem to be exchanging chocolate for other things but it doesn't seem to be working

Ooof out last night feeling a bit fragile today 🤣🤣 excellent night tho at an AC/DC tribute 👍

Was RD at parkrun this morning so I've had some fresh air 🤣🤣

Up to visit my mom tomorrow so probably rubbish food 😢 but hopefully not too bad.

Hope everyone has a good weekend 😊

It's not really working for me either, especially when stressed. I think sometimes I'm better having a bit of chocolate, scratching that itch, and not eating more other stuff to avoid it and then eating the chocolate later anyway!

amiboverd · 23/09/2023 17:07

@HouseofHolbein Sounds like a good night! I'm having a similar issue as I'm at my parents' today and so far I've been fed chocolate and there's talk of fish and chips for dinner!

@BaffledOnceAgain Sometimes I just have a few pieces of of dark chocolate and I think that's better as it's definitely less than I'd normally have but then when I've had yogurt instead and it needed up been 200 cals it feels a bit pointless!

I think I need to work on portion sizes too.

Planning a body combat in the morning!

Burntumber · 24/09/2023 12:58

Sounds like a nice weekend @HouseofHolbein and @amiboverd, my mum always wants to give us treats and nice food when we go there so nearly always just give myself the day off! She is a bit like mrs Doyle from father ted if anyone remembers that show!

I did mini bike hiit yesterday and quite a long walk. My foot is a bit sore so might do some kind of short lying down workout later …

@BaffledOnceAgain bodycombat is my fave category on les mills, hope you had a good workout!

amiboverd · 24/09/2023 13:10

@Burntumber I was coming on to say my body combat session was really good this morning thank you. I felt I had a lot of energy to go for it but really sweated and felt like I'd had a good workout. Then went for a short walk with the DH and DC as well.

My mom is in n a care home 3+ hours away so a visit involves a long drive a McDonald's breakfast and fast food for tea. So really not good for the waistline or r my mental health tbh 😭😭

Today I'm mostly teaching her to use WhatsApp which is frustrating to say the least 😭😭 but necessary as her phone contact has come to an end 🤣🤣

Burntumber · 24/09/2023 19:54

@amiboverd brilliant that you enjoyed the workout!

@HouseofHolbein I am so sorry, I think I misread your previous message before and didn’t realise your mum was in a care home - that is a very long drive 😢 I would 100% be having McDonald’s or whatever to get me through the day. Hope you have a bit of time to relax and unwind this evening.

i didn’t workout but did 10000 steps according to my husbands watch (he wasn’t using it so I have taken it over!).
