Anyone else want to make a real effort from tomorrow - 4 weeks of exercise and eating well?

I have been trying on and off to lose weight for the past year but now planning to really exercise 3 times a week if I can and cut down on the sugary crap I eat. A but part of it is the habit of wanting something sweet after dinner when I don't even really want it.

Hello, yes, I'd like to join. Kids back to school tomorrow so back to a routine. I'm the heaviest I've ever been and need to lose 2 stone. Really don't feel like myself and don't know how I let myself get like this.

Angelselevenx · 10/09/2023 16:09

I'm going to join in too! I normally gym 3-4 times a week but let myself down by snacking in an evening, I'll restart my fitness pal as well 😊

Toytransportemergency · 10/09/2023 16:13

I’m in! I’ve had a wonderful summer of eating, but have an injury that has stopped me from my usual exercise routine.

amiboverd · 10/09/2023 16:26

Hi @KrisKaz @Toytransportemergency @Angelselevenx 👋

What sort of exercise do you do?

I like to run (I use the word "like" loosely) or a Les Mills online workout which is easier if I am home alone with the little one. One or the other three times will do. Even a walk is better than nothing!

Alternatively / also interested in the exercise challenges where you do something every day like 100 abs exercises every day 100 squats type of thing but don't want to try to do too much and then fall of the wagon straight away...

@Toytransportemergency sorry about it your injury - is it still limiting what you can do or are you recovered?

dudsville · 10/09/2023 16:29

Hi, I'm due to contact the gym this week for the intro session. I've learned that a low fat diet works best for me so I'll be keeping to this.

amiboverd · 10/09/2023 16:33

@dudsville It's great that you know what works for you!

Tomorrowisanewday · 10/09/2023 16:36

Can I join you, please? I start a new resolution too often, but am fed up feeling and looking like this.

I enjoy weight training, and know that a higher protein diet suits me better

amiboverd · 10/09/2023 16:39

Please do @Tomorrowisanewday

I feel that way too. I keep starting and then something throws me off but I want to feel confident in clothes like I used to.

I have an event in four weeks and I'm not sure how much I can do in that time but I want to give it a go!

WhatCameFirstTheChickenOrTheDickhead · 10/09/2023 16:42

I'll join!

I had 2 exams last week which really throw me out of whack for the 6 weeks leading up to them as have so little time, but I'm determined to get back on it this week. Even harder as from tomorrow I'm back in the office pretty much full time for the first time since March 20 but I have already set my alarm for 45 mins earlier than I need to either get out for a walk or do an online workout. I much prefer working out in the morning but find it so hard to get back into the routine.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/09/2023 16:43

Oh definitely me please!
exercise is ok, I run and am gradually getting my mileage up again after a long season of recovery (last weeks crazy temps killed me though) but the food is disastrous. I can do it, I know what to do, but then I fall off the wagon again and again…. We’ve just had a night away and lovely food and lots to drink. I dread to think what the impact on the scales will be. I’ve just started HRT and I’m so worried it will pile on but it will if I keep eating sugary rubbish!

I’m climbing snowdon the weekend after next, so that’s my mini goal- I’d like to be under 11st by then. That could be a loss of anything from 2lbs to 6-7 lbs depending how much damage I did this weekend!

i need to cut portion sizes and calories down and eat more veg. It sounds simple because it is. Loads of water. And cut out sugar and UPF. I exercise every day, either a hiit class or a run, and I walk in the evenings if I haven’t hit 10k steps. I fully intend to resume a brilliant 30 day Abs programme I have all the downloads for and I know it gets results, but somehow I can’t force myself to start day 1 🤦‍♀️ and I need to stretch more.

amiboverd · 10/09/2023 16:56

@WhatCameFirstTheChickenOrTheDickhead That sounds like a good start. I feel like starting is the worst part for me

@thenewaveragebear1983 It sounds like you are doing a lot already! Which 30 days abs were you looking at? I usually go to blogilates but maybe we could both do them! I think I am a similar age to you, going by your username! PS I've also just come back from a 2 week holiday and haven't dared weigh myself yet but May brave it in the morning so I have a starting point!

OP posts:
Greenfishy · 10/09/2023 16:59

Yep I’ll join. Want to reduce UPF and sugar from this week and restart (again 🙄) some exercise. It’s hard working shifts with a toddler. I’ll aim for a couple of Pilates YouTube sessions this week.

backtoweights · 10/09/2023 17:00

I'm in! Had an accident this summer and had to stop exercise but I'm recovered now and need the motivation to start again. 🏋️‍♀️

It'll help that the weather's due to cool down too.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/09/2023 17:05

@amiboverd I use Kari Pearce power Abs, it’s a paid for programme where you buy the workouts and then do ten minutes a day. I did a 30 day cycle once, felt great, core strength Hugely improved and I even had the very start of tiny little abs showing…. And then I never continued and I now weigh at least a stone more than I did then 🤦‍♀️

I was away with dh this weekend and I caught sight of my naked body and oh my, I really do look a sight right now.

amiboverd · 10/09/2023 17:15

Welcome @Greenfishy and sorry about your injury @backtoweights

@thenewaveragebear1983 I haven't heard of that one so will look it up!

I have lost weight and put it back on since having DC. It's frustrating!

helpmebe · 10/09/2023 17:23

Yes, me please!
I weight 14 stone 11 and have never really done exercise. I need to lose weight desperately.

TeeNoG · 10/09/2023 17:26

Yes please! I've been doing well that last few weeks with nutrition, but want to start the exercise again as it makes me feel so much better! I go on holiday in 5 weeks so that's my motivation 🙂

amiboverd · 10/09/2023 17:33

hi @helpmebe Do you have ideas of what you'd like to do? Maybe start easy if you've never done any exercise

welcome @TeeNoG 👋

OP posts:
helpmebe · 10/09/2023 17:37

I have downloaded MyFitnessPal to track calories and currently charging up my smart watch so it tells me how many calories I've burned. My job is very sedentary so thinking maybe a 30 min brisk walk in the evenings or a go on my old exercise bike (which has never been used!)

Just feeling a bit overwhelmed

amiboverd · 10/09/2023 17:39

@helpmebe I walked a lot while I was on maternity leave and lost a fair bit of weight that way. I love a walk with a podcast or audiobook.

EnglishRose1320 · 10/09/2023 17:40

I'm in! I've joined chats like this before, but have a bad habit for falling off the wagon. However I've just taken the plunge and signed up with a local lifecoach/personal trainer for the next 12 weeks, in the hope of kick starting my healthy journey.
It's really quite expensive, so I'm hoping that will motivate me not to give in!

Have a mini goal of shifting some weight before my holiday in 6 weeks and a bigger goal of a Family wedding at the start of next year.

Iamclearlyamug · 10/09/2023 17:49

Yes please! I was doing so well but properly pigged out over the holidays and I've regained loads!

I do run 3 times a week (although realistically it's often only twice) and I've got lazy with how far I walk the dog, and basically stopped going to the gym completely.

So I need an arse kicking! Starting tomorrow I'm with you guys 💪

Bippertyboo2 · 10/09/2023 18:02

I'd like to join too please. I think I am quite a bit older than most of you and I have a huge birthday coming up in November when we are going on a fabulous holiday and even that hasn't kept me on the straight and narrow so I'm hoping joining you will give me the kick up the proverbial that I need.
I walk every day but this hot weather has meant I've dropped from five miles a day to about three and a half, that will change from tomorrow and I hope to get back to the gym next weekend. I will also be fine tuning my diet. Even if the scales don't show a loss I know I will look and feel better. I like the idea of being answerable to someone.

scepticalexpat · 10/09/2023 18:16

I'd like to join! Need to lose about a stone and keep putting off starting. I'm going to do a couple of dance workouts in addition to normal walking and yoga, and minimise sugar and snacking during the week.
