Anyone else want to make a real effort from tomorrow - 4 weeks of exercise and eating well?

I have been trying on and off to lose weight for the past year but now planning to really exercise 3 times a week if I can and cut down on the sugary crap I eat. A but part of it is the habit of wanting something sweet after dinner when I don't even really want it.

I've decided after a so/so week to not weigh myself until Monday morning, hoping to be really good this weekend and maybe see a difference on the scales.

I have managed 3 work outs so far this week and am planning one more this evening, my meals have been okay, just need to really get on top of the snacking. Although I knew that would be hard this week, with three family birthdays in one week.

Bippertyboo2 · 16/09/2023 12:52

Yesterday we had a day trip out and nothing went according to plan! No exercise other than walking around the NT property, although it was quite hilly and then succombed to a Magnum! Today however, I've been to the gym for 90 minutes and worked really hard, not opened my eating window until 12.30 and this afternoon I'll do the big shop and will not be buying any treats.

amiboverd · 16/09/2023 13:29

I weighed myself this morning and seem to have lost that extra LB. Might try not to weigh myself for a week now (maybe I'll stick to Fridays) as it will impact my motivation if the number is not changing or going the wrong way!

I also need to do a food shop as I'll find it harder to make the right choices when we don't have much in.

We took DC to a soft play this morning and my DH ordered me a hot chocolate and cake. I had some of the hot chocolate but let my friend have the cake as it seemed like totally unnecessary calories when I didn't even want it and had half a chocolate cupcake last night as well.

How has everyone done today?

I haven't done amazingly well. I had the hot chocolate for breakfast, some crisps as a snack and then a small frozen pizza for a late lunch / dinner (I was going to go shopping to buy some healthy options but didn't feel well). DH made me a beef kebab in pitta with salad for dinner followed by a whipped yogurt.

I plan to go for a run in the morning if I feel up to it.

@amiboverd Well done on refusing the cake! I don’t have the same willpower. I could stop myself from buying some, but if someone else bought me one and put it in front of me it would be eaten before I thought about it.

Did parkrun yesterday morning. Really went for it, aimed for a PB, but I’d gone out too fast and couldn’t keep it up so I didn’t get it. Feeling my legs this morning!

Off to the in-laws today so I’ll be fine food wise (they seem to subsist on cups of tea and fruit) but no time for any exercise. I’ll count it as a rest day.

amiboverd · 17/09/2023 10:16

@donkey86 Thanks! Well done on the park run! I was going to go for a run this morning but DH wants to go for a family walk and is now making me pancakes
so I'm going to take the walk as exercise (it's a hard walk and I'll probably be carrying my toddler for much of it) but will try to do some exercise later.

I can feel a difference in my abs just from a few days doing the abs challenge and so I'm hoping they go back to what they were (I still have some ab separation after having DC)

Have a good day everyone!

I’m back from my fitness event. Did 8 hours of workouts yesterday and have lost 1kg this week. So I’m ok with that.
Have been pretty good food wise. Didn’t eat much yesterday. A couple of protein bars and some fruit. Then a poke bowl after we finished.

Started off with a good breakfast today and back on track. Feeling pretty hungry today though.

amiboverd · 17/09/2023 14:58

That's good @Gymmum82

I've just seen another holiday photo of myself and seen how much my upper stomach is bulging. I put it down to a separation and it's partly what's motivated me to put some effort in now but it looks so bad! I'm embarrassed for not realising how I looked.

OP posts:
amiboverd · 17/09/2023 15:00

I'm about a size 10 so not big overall (a size bigger than I used to be but that's ok) but it's literally like a bulge at the top of my stomach probably over the top of my waistband 🙁

OP posts:
Gymmum82 · 17/09/2023 15:04

@amiboverd I’m sure it doesn’t look as bad as you think it does. Were always the harshest critics of ourselves. No one else notices imperfections.
I try to focus less on what my body looks like and more on what it can do, how strong it is and how I feel.
At the minute I feel sluggish and my clothes feel tight and a bit uncomfortable. I’m not fat, probably a 10-12 ish. But I prefer how I feel at an 8-10. So I’d like to lose some excess fat

FabFitFifties · 17/09/2023 22:00

OK, I confess, first week has been a shambles, full of cold and stress at work drove me to the sugar. Brand new start tommorrow though!

Tomorrowisanewday · 18/09/2023 07:42

I'd decided to just weigh once per week, as you've commented @amiboverd, weighed this morning, and have lost three pounds in a week. I'll be happy if I can keep that up across the four weeks

HouseofHolbein · 18/09/2023 08:08

Just done 15 minutes on the treadmill and the same on the bike. Need to get ready for work now 👍

HouseofHolbein · 18/09/2023 08:26

For accountability. Today I weigh 10st 12.8lbs. Initial goal is under 10st. I'm 54 and menapausal so it's a struggle but I'm going to do my best 😊

Gymmum82 · 18/09/2023 08:26

Yesterday I definitely over ate. Probably hunger from all the classes on Saturday but I didn’t make good choices. Back on it today though and gym tonight.
Well done everyone. Hope you all have a good week

amiboverd · 18/09/2023 08:40

Thanks @Gymmum82 I think you are right and maybe others didn't notice as much but it has made me self conscious. I want to feel comfortable with my body. The worst bit is if I want to dress up for an occasion and I don't feel comfortable in anything.

I think it's normal to have the odd blip and I think it is good for our bodies not to be constantly restricted.

@FabFitFifties Sounds like a tough week. Hopefully this week will be better 🤞

@Tomorrowisanewday Thats fantastic! 👏🏼

@HouseofHolbein That's a good start to the day!

I ate okay yesterday - pancakes for breakfast with banana and a tiny bit of golden syrup and roast chicken with a roast potatoes and veg followed by fruit with cream. DH put a bit of sugar on the fruit 🙄 but I think that's all I ate yesterday. No snacks. One piece of M&S dark chocolate. I sometimes have a small amount of dark chocolate to scratch the chocoholic itch.

I did some blogilates abs and arms exercises along with a 2 hour walk with DH and DC yesterday. Planning some cardio on Wednesday morning.

OP posts:
Gymmum82 · 18/09/2023 22:22

@amiboverd well done. Back on track today. Porridge for breakfast. Salad for lunch and curry for tea. Minimal snacks and I did a class after work

amiboverd · 19/09/2023 07:20

Sounds good @Gymmum82

yesterday I had an Apple for breakfast, pizza Express pizza for lunch (I are about 3/4 of it), about three pieces of dark chocolate in the afternoon and I made myself a quick stir fry with noodles, veg and leftover chicken for dinner.

HouseofHolbein · 19/09/2023 08:56

Did a mile on the treadmill this morning and 15 minutes of tabata style cycling on the indoor bike 😊 need to organise food better still getting used to my new job and the rota 😊

Good luck today everyone! We can do this 😊

amiboverd · 19/09/2023 12:53

Well done @HouseofHolbein

So far I've had some fruit juice instead of breakfast; a pain au chocolat as a late breakfast / early lunch and now ready for food.

I plan to do some blogilates arms and abs today and then tomorrow hopefully a "proper" workout. Most likely Body Combat.

OP posts:
Gymmum82 · 19/09/2023 13:20

@amiboverd sounds great! I love bodycombat. It’s my absolute favourite

amiboverd · 19/09/2023 13:40

Mine too!

Fell off the wagon a bit at the end of last week as I was hosting a couple of biggish parties and just ran out of time to exercise. Managed to not over eat though which is something. Hit the gym yesterday and did an hours cardio and half an hour of conditioning. THis morning I did a fast walk to the pool and back after my swim. Its an open air one so pretty chilly today so I did indulge in a latte when I got out. Hopefully I'll get a run in tomorrow. Foodwise we are eating up left overs from the weekend although it has been pretty healthy - salmon, chicken and salad mainly.

amiboverd · 19/09/2023 21:52

That doesn't sound too bad @londonmummy1966 !

How is everyone else doing? It's very quiet on here - hope you haven't all given up!

I ate a pain au chocolat for breakfast, made a quick noodle stir fry for lunch and had some pasta with pesto for dinner as once again my husband claimed to by too ill to cook despite having been at work all day and at worst having a cold.

I did some and arms exercises but think it's a bad idea to do them in the evening as I feel slightly wired!

ah yes I did also eat a whipped yogurt and then saw it had 190
cals in. Probably should have left the yogurt as they're not that healthy but i haven't snacked loads which is something!

I also haven't had a chocolate since we started this and I'd usually have a few a week but they are 300+ cals a time too
