Mine was on Saturday when I went out for a road cycle - hadn't realised it was quite so windy and it was against me for the first 15 miles or so - had been up several decent hills and was about 5 miles from home going along a flat, straight road which is fairly exposed. Reader, it may have been slightly wind assisted but my speedometer reached 30.3mph!!!!! On the flat!!! For a couple of hundred yards!!.
Managed to sustain at over 29mph for several hundred yards! I was SO pleased with myself.

Anyone else got an exercise achievement they want to brag about? Grin

What a brilliant thread!

I’m naturally very strong, but suffered my second bout of sciatica last week. Determination —and tramadol— helped me to conquer it!

This week, with only a slight back niggle I have learned the latest Group Fight release (like Bodycombat only better IMO).
Deadlifted 80k. That’s not much more than my baseline really (build of a Welsh pit pony) but still more than I’ve done in ages.
Restarted couch to 5k - haven’t run regularly because of back issues in ages. I’m optimistic this could be the time to get back to pre-40s running speeds (in my dreams 😂)

@Bluetowelsandflannels I do 4 sessions a week with workouts designed by my PT (I'm training for unassisted pull ups).

I do routines for 3-4 months at a time to give you a chance to progress. Always start high reps, low weight and end up low reps, high weight.

At the moment I do things like: overhead press, bench press, split squats, barbell squats, deadlifts. With a cable machine: Lat pulldown, wide rows, high rows, narrow rows, face pulls, rear delt flys. I'm trying to get my back strong! I do more but the list gets long and depends on your aim.

Sounds epic! Thank you, very inspirational!

PT (I'm training for unassisted pull ups).

My husband rigged up a pull-up bar hanging from a beam in our sitting room so I could practice those.

His father visited and asked what it was. When told him, he stood up, grabbed hold of it and did three proper pull ups. I wouldn’t have minded but he had no interest in exercise and was 88 at the time.

Chely · 02/04/2022 10:03

@zazdar 120 isn't good enough either. I'm aiming to hit 150 1RM, closest I got before pregnancies set me back was 132.5

Zazdar · 02/04/2022 11:01

I'm aiming to hit 150 1RM

Wow! That’s getting on for three times my body weight, so I think I’ll pass on that one.

MsMartini · 02/04/2022 13:31

@zazdar Grin. Infuriating.

Amazing achievements here and good luck to @MrsMoastyToasty and anyone else coming back from injury.

I've got my training mojo back this week, after an olden days cold and various other disruptions. Pull-ups, chin-ups, press-ups, lots of core work and a park bootcamp today. My achievement was getting more pulls.

blobby10 · 04/04/2022 11:56

Well, I did it!! I joined my local cycle club and went out for a club run yesterday. Ended up cycling with 5 blokes but I kept up! Wasn't last going up the hills and over 40 miles I didn't slow them down!! They have a 'no drop' policy so if anyone is struggling then the rest of the group take it in turns to go slow with that person - I was determined not to be 'that person' so really pushed myself. My HRM showed I spent most of the ride at 80%+ of my max heart rate. Had to refuse the tea and cake at the end of the ride for fear of being sick but was so pleased I took the plunge and cycled with other people Grin

I’ve gone up on my body pump weights for chest and back track. Feeling strong 💪!

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 04/04/2022 12:05

I've been running on and off for about 10 years. Recently, a string of injuries means I've decided to focus on swim and gym for a while to see if I can get a bit stronger, so returning to running doesn't break me (again).

However, we're off on a UK holiday in 2 weeks, and we'll be staying 10 minutes away from a parkrun that I've never done, and probably will never get the chance again. As a huge parkrun fan, I cannot pass that up.

I was picturing having to walk most of it, but today I thought I'd get on the treadmill and see what happened - and I managed to run a full 5k!

Now, I know that this doesn't really translate to a cold and wet and hilly trail run when slightly hungover (I mean, I'll be on holiday so.... yeah.), but it has given me a huge amount of confidence that a) I'll get round in one piece and b) I haven't lost all the running fitness after all!

Chely · 04/04/2022 17:15

@zazdar your power to bodyweight ratios must be pretty good then.

I'm 5ft 8 and not dainty (especially not atm) so need to hit some very big numbers to match you.

soberfabulous · 04/04/2022 17:20

My goodness this thread is uplifting and brilliant!!!

I can't compete much on running distances or weight lifting but I do manage 5 k three times a week and I've been learning to play tenjis for year and this week rallied to 20 shots without missing with my coach.

This is a miracle for me and I feel so good when I improve. I work full time so fitting exercise around things makes it quite rudimentary at times and it doesn't feel like I'm getting better..:

Lovely thread!

Worrysaboutalot · 04/04/2022 17:25

I have managed to use an recumbent exercise bike with the aid of medical pedals with light wrist weights arm exercises at least 4 times a week for the last six weeks!

As I am on crutches or my powerchair for the rest of the time, I am impressed I have managed this long. Yeah me!

Zazdar · 04/04/2022 23:28

Better than my maths. 160 kg would be closer to three times my body weight.

MidnightsFoodbowl · 05/04/2022 23:01

I just received my '25 parkruns' t-shirt in the post today - chuffed, as I don't really enjoy running, and our course is quite hilly, so every Sat I have to push myself to get out of the door & go. Also got my best time of the year last Sat (still a rubbish 33min, though).
Only started running to improve my taekwondo - have my exam for 2nd degree black belt soon, at the grand old age of 52!

CryHavoc · 06/04/2022 22:41

These are all fabulous. Well done to everyone achieving goals - a win is a win.

Sidge · 07/04/2022 22:44

Love this thread. Amazing achievements all of you.

I managed 2x 90kg deadlifts last week. I only weigh 58kg and am really short so I was so chuffed with that. It was at the end of my set, I’d already done about 55-60 lifts, starting at 40kg, reducing reps and increasing weight.

I then managed 3 sets of semi assisted forward pull-ups. I’ve recently managed unassisted pull-ups but can only do a few without a breather lol.

Love feeling strong.

Chely · 09/04/2022 12:10

Today I made my lever lifting belt 1 notch smaller, I couldn't get it on my 1st session back in after pregnancy. My deadlifts feel much better than they did last week with it that bit tighter. Slowly trimming my excess with less rubbish and OMAD most days.

EssexLioness · 09/04/2022 12:22

I went to do my usual morning workout today and peeked in the mirror and noticed I am beginning to form abs! They are barely visible but they are doing their best to peak through my belly fat! I am 44 and only, started doing any regular exercise in the last 9 months so I never thought I would have abs. Chuffed to bits

Chocolateismyfavourite · 09/04/2022 22:18

After loosing my running mojo to yoga for a while, I'm back at it three times a week. with my yoga, I'm part of a arm balance and inversions community and today I have managed a really great flying pigeon pose wich I'm pretty happy about😁

Arucanafeather · 09/04/2022 23:13

Knocked 45 secs off my parkrun pb time today for my 50th parkrun. Got under 34 mins (literally 33m 59 secs Grin). A long way to get back to previous fitness and a healthier weight after parkrun but I’m buzzing with happiness.

xsquared · 10/04/2022 14:17

Got a crown on a Strava segment today after 12 attempts.

Flying pigeon is SO hard. That's amazing.
Chocolateismyfavourite · 10/04/2022 21:59

@CryHavoc Thank you. it is really difficult, now I'm not affraid to lean far enough forward, it's happening🙂

blobby10 · 11/04/2022 09:43

xsquared that's awesome!!! its wonderful when you get those crowns Grin. x Could only manage a few silver medals this week Grin

I had two mini achievements this weekend!! Saturday I couldn't face cycling for some reason so did some HIIT at home - managed a whole hour before I collapsed in a heap. The achievement was that I did something rather than finding excuses not to!

Sunday I went on my bike - had limited time so only did a 28 mile loop but managed my second best time ever on it at 16.4mph average! Best was 16.8mph last September but I'm less fit now so was very pleased with myself.
