Just did a run with Runkeeper as suggested and take it steadily. Didn't run as far or as fast but a bit easier. Hopefully I can build from this and not give up!

TryingToBeBold · 23/06/2020 09:48

@Stopthehop one of those days!
Rest up and enjoy the sun. Maybe a 2 day break?

ChanklyBore · 23/06/2020 09:58

Well done to the 20 minute runs. Hope the shin splints improve, Trying.

I went searching for hills yesterday. I’m clearly mad. I’ve worked out a vague post-graduation plan which is based on week six. I’m running repetitions on a local field with an incline, round in squares. So walk along the flat top edge, run steadily along the downhill and flat bottom edge, power up the hill side as fast as I can. Round and round. Ran 3k as a warm up then managed four circuits of the field at about 400m each and I was done, felt like I was going to vomit.

Sexnotgender · 23/06/2020 10:09

I’m a hill avoider too😂 there’s a steep one in the park and I try and time my runs to avoid it.

ThickFast · 23/06/2020 11:01

Searching for hills! I did that the other day. Voluntarily ran the uphill route.

mumto2unicorns · 23/06/2020 14:45

Went out and it stopped raining so that was lucky. W3 complete. My route has a gradual hill at the start and I really struggle the bonus being it's all downhill on the way back so it always seems easier for the last run. Dreading the 5 min runs in w4 but then I struggled with 60s at the beginning so def improving.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 23/06/2020 16:04

Hi all. I’ve not run since the 16th but just bashed a very warm 5k out. Felt really good but I am very sweaty! I think I post that every time Grin

Well done to all new starters, mid-wayers, almost finished-ers and graduates. Keep running Wine

ChanklyBore · 23/06/2020 17:24

Sexnotgender - I read that about five times trying to figure out how running at different times of day would help you avoid the hill. Seems I’ve forgotten about intervals already, doh.

Well done, sweaty JonHamm.

NCTDN · 23/06/2020 17:35

Well done to all who have got out. It's too hot here atm.

Ohhgreat · 23/06/2020 18:41

Can I join you all? I've been doing c25k, got to week 7 run 2 and then had 3 utterly abysmal runs. Even tried roping the husband in to drive to my run midpoint and cheerlead! So yesterday for week 8 run 1 I decided to slow it right down. I thought I was already going slow but turns out I could slow down more, and for the first time I actually enjoyed running! So much that it got to 28mins and I kept going to 30! Now the challenge is to replicate it tomorrow and prove it wasnt a fluke. Really dont want it to be a fluke I want to enjoy running!

Tootytata · 23/06/2020 19:06

Week 4, run 2 tonight. Got slight period pain but I'm gonna do it anyway! Come on!!! Can't believe I'm getting into this!

ThickFast · 23/06/2020 20:53

Just ran. It was effing boiling. The insides of my ears were hot! Shin splints ok until towards the end. Only ran for 22 mins. Hope my legs continue to heal and then I can get back up to 30 mins

TryingToBeBold · 23/06/2020 20:59

@thickfast splints were.. felt during warm up walk but died down thankfully.
Very hot.
I managed 20mins and 2.68k. Got a load of PBs in there. Not bad considering my watch was dead and I had to use my phone. Sad so much faff. I've been spoilt with my phone.

Could I have gone more.. maybe.
I'm still pleased I did 20mins. I dont have to do 5k every time. I can focus on speed and short runs sometimes.

ThickFast · 23/06/2020 21:02

Nice one @TryingToBeBold. I actually thought of you during my run and smiled. I could possibly have gone further but my shin splint was hurting a bit for the last five mins. So I didn’t want to. Also I was too hot. I also think I don’t have to do 5k each time. I can do that when my leg is healed and now when it’s a heatwave.

ThickFast · 23/06/2020 21:03

How is the watch better? Is it just that you don’t have to get it out your pocket?

ThickFast · 23/06/2020 21:05

Also, I’m so glad your run was good. I’m really pleased for you.

TryingToBeBold · 23/06/2020 21:31

@thickfast exactly that. I can start stop my timer a hell of a lot easier and a flick of the wrist to see how far and long I've been going.
And it vibrates every km. So that's great for motivation.

TryingToBeBold · 23/06/2020 21:32

And thank you so much. It's very sweet of you.
It's so encouraging to know people are running my speed. people are sharing my injuries. People are sharing my thoughts and mental blocks and that I'm not alone

UnaOfStormhold · 23/06/2020 22:11

Bother, my running shoe order arrived today and there's one pair that feel really nice except I think they're a tiny bit too short at the toes. I think I'm going to try ordering the next size up which will probably be too big. Apart from the toes they feel really nice to run round the house in, really supportive and springy, so it's going to be a bit sad going back to running in the battered old fashion trainers I've been using up to now. But better to get it right!

TryingToBeBold · 23/06/2020 22:34

@Una even if you walk! Its better than 0

Does anyone else feel really positive about an hour or two after.
Before I dread it.
After I'm dying.
But I'm now sat here 2 hours later feeling so mentally positive

TryingToBeBold · 23/06/2020 22:58

Hill avoider. I seek out the downhills haha.

@oohgreat all welcome! Fingers crossed for you tomorrow but I definitely relate about the halfway cheerleading!

sleepwhenidie · 23/06/2020 23:33

Hi Una do not be tempted to stick with shoes that are a tad too small, I did that and ended up with plantar fasciitis that still hasn’t completely gone away 2 years later ☹️ (In my defence the shoes were ones I’d had several times before but I didn’t realise ASICS changed the design)

Murmurur · 24/06/2020 00:15

This is mad isn't it? @JonHammIsMyJamm "Just bashed a very warm 5k out", @ChanklyBore "Ran 3k as a warm up". Proper runners guys!! It still sounds a lifetime away for me but then I didn't imagine I'd have done a 20 min run so few weeks after starting.

@Ohhgreat welcome and well done on your last run. Fingers crossed it stays that way.

@TryingToBeBold well done, keep it steady.

NoTeaForMe · 24/06/2020 06:46

I ran 5k for the first time ever! I graduated C25K and then the following run did 5k! I wanted to do it in the last one of the programme but didn’t make it. I can’t believe it! I’m slow, took just under 40 minutes but I made it all the way round without dying!

UnaOfStormhold · 24/06/2020 07:25

Respect for all the new 5ks being run, seriously impressive!

Next size up shoes ordered, fingers crossed that they arrive soon and fit well. I'll still get out tonight, I think I've really got the running bug!
