Thought I would start a new thread as we have literally run out of room on the last one Grin

That sounds like a lovely weekend poppy. We’re like roman - we don’t get to do that often (2x in 6yrs) so it’s a real treat.

Roman - I am in the same position re weights. I have been trying to do as many reps as I can with the heavier weight then drop to the lighter one as it seems like a waste to buy a 6kg weight when I already have 4kg and 8kg. I’m getting stronger, but I’m a long way off being able to do a full set of bicep curls at 8kg!

My weights turned up. They were with our neighbour Blush. He handed them over saying ‘the box is heavy’ and then found it hilarious when I nearly dropped it as I could barely hold it. They’re like proper Popeye massive dumbbells like the boys use on liift. I managed one squat before I had to put them down. Oh dear. Rest day today. I’ll report back tomorrow re how I got on. Or I might fall and be trapped under them and have to wait to be rescued........Grin

yumyumpoppycat · 09/05/2019 11:16

Thanks the weekend was lovely . we are lucky and have quite a few nights each year where my mum looks after the kids at her house but that is so we can work - not had a sleepover just for fun in ages!

Purple Grin I have an image of you in my head trapped under giant foam weights. Let us know how you get on.

Plink I am really struggling so sympathise, its really hard and frustrating to have an injury. You will be back on it soon and its important to rest.

I have ordered some diet shakes, never done this before other than trying one individual drink from boots once in a blue moon. I feel bad as know I am setting a bad example to my children. I just cant seem to get my diet on track at the moment where in the past I could once I decided to go for it. Whatever weight I lose if I do lose any, I need to try and keep it off in a healthy way at least. It is all weirdly complicated when it should be easy!

I think I am going to have to put transform 20 on hold - it is too bloody hard Blush Blush please someone try power week 1 without a step and tell me I am not a total flake!

yumyumpoppycat · 09/05/2019 11:20

Ooh I have also decided not to speak negatively about my appearance… its gonna be a challenge.

PlinkPlink · 09/05/2019 11:44

Nooo yum dont do it!! 😂😂 You can do this without diet shakes... I really hope you don't mean that SlimFast stuff?

I have a shake every morning but it's a protein shake from MyProtein. I add in half a banana, a cup of spinach (totally cant taste it), almond milk and water and a seed mix of hemp, chia and something else.

It adds up to like 200 calories? And then I have a slice of toast and that sets me up nicely for the day. I've only just got back onto that. Maybe try that for a shake or something similar? Dont go on those slimfast things... as soon as you stop, the weight will come back and it'll be disheartening 😣

Are you using the colour pots? I found they were great on their own without exercise.

What are you struggling with?

yumyumpoppycat · 09/05/2019 13:43

Plink I am starting off each day with good intentions but keep choosing badly at lunchtime which makes me hungry and graze the whole rest of the day!! I don't eat a shocking amount but it adds up without me realising and I just keep gaining weight. They are a low carb low sugar shake for weight-loss, maybe a couple of days of them will help me to get back on track, or I could just swap out lunch for a shake as that's where it seems to all go wrong.

PlinkPlink · 09/05/2019 14:08

I reckon the lunch shake will be a good idea if thats where it all goes wrong.

What are you picking at lunch? Could you substitute it with healthier options... you know, like sausages > chicken sausages, bacon > Turkey bacon, that kind of thing? 🤔

Reastie · 09/05/2019 15:28

Yumy I once tried diet shakes but my problem was they didn’t fill me up so I ended out having a shake and a meal rather than replacing the meal Grin . I’m too greedy! Fwiw I hear cup a soups are great for filling a hole for relatively low calories. I’d recommend planning your lunch earlier in the day so you have it ready for when you’re hungry, or even making lunch the evening before so it’s ready to go and you have no excuses not to eat well.

Purpleraindeer · 09/05/2019 15:56

I used to plan all my meals at least a day in advance when I was dieting. I often would prep them too so I literally couldn’t stray off the plan as that was all that was available.

Clearly that’s a bit mental - but maybe just making up your lunch at breakfast time would help poppy?

Or, every time you want to graze just have a drink first? Sometimes I mistake thirst for hunger.

It is frustrating when you can’t get on track!

Reastie · 09/05/2019 16:06

Also, if it helps, I always feel sick with hunger in the run up to dinner. The only way to help it other than eating loads is to make my salad for dinner early and just pick at the salad as I make it. I can then often wait half an hour to an hour until I actually eat dinner having only picked at bits of lettuce/cucumber/radish. Just the act of preparing a salad distracts me and makes me feel like I can eat soon. Right now I’m starving hungry despite this afternoon for snacks already having had an apple, tofu, an oatcake with peanut butter and a pack of Organix carrot sticks crisps Grin . I’m trying to leave it another 10 minutes but then will get cracking on the salad.

yumyumpoppycat · 09/05/2019 16:13

Thanks all, I think preparing lunch in advance makes a huge amount of sense, I have been meaning to do it for cost and packaging reasons anyway. I work with dp, he prefers not to bring lunch, we are near lots of shops etc so can choose between approximately 5 branches of costa and they have a deal for a toastie, crisps and a drink - normally a hot chocolate is more expensive than a latte but it is included in this deal - guess which I go for. The intention is always to get a boots meal deal of salad and eggs etc for about 3.50 but it's not quite so tempting ;) The worst thing about this habit is the hot chocolate makes me sleepy so then I raid the sweetie tin at work to wake myself up Hmm FFS it sounds ridiculous typing it out. Then I get home and have something else yum but rubbish, don't eat a proper dinner, then have midnight snack before bed.

Reastie that made me laugh about the shakes because it had occurred to me I might do that.

Will try them, maybe it will persuade me veg isn't so bad if they are awful, but a bit of planning is looking the way forward all round.

Reastie · 09/05/2019 16:17

Also if it’s something you might like I’ve bought a thermos food pot today which says it keeps food hot for 9 hours or cold for longer, so you could put a lovely healthy soup in hot in the morning or a healthy stew or pasta and veg etc and have a hot lunch. Or could do a nice fruit salad with nuts and yoghurt and keep it cool. Although I’ve bought mine to keep hot/warm water in to put on changing table to have nice warm water ready all day for my reusable baby wipes when changing nappies so it’s a more pleasant experience for baby than using cold water Grin .

yumyumpoppycat · 09/05/2019 16:21

Really good idea about the thermos reastie, - my dc keep saying their friends use those for exciting packed lunches. Sandwiches really don't cut it any more apparently.

Reastie · 09/05/2019 16:56

🙄 in my day packed lunch = a sandwich, packet of crisps, piece of fruit and chocolate bar if you were lucky!

Theromanempire · 09/05/2019 18:05

yum I agree with the others - don't go down the route of shakes as it is not the healthy way to do it and totally unsustainable. I plan my food out the day before (it is part of the Team RH plan) as I like to know how many calories I have for goodies Grin And since I started the diet 12 months ago, I have not been to the work butty van once as I cannot guarantee what I can get from there and it would mess my food diary up. Yes it is a pain organising it all in the morning but it becomes a habit and it is second nature now. Try planning and see?

Transform 20 - I have to say that the comments I have picked up on Facebook groups etc make me think that it has not been well received and may not be Beachbody's finest workout! There is quite a lot of criticism about it being too hectic, too 'bouncy' which gives people foot cramps a lot (I have seen a lot of discussions about having to do it barefoot to try and ease this which automatically makes me think Hmm)

OP posts:
PlinkPlink · 09/05/2019 20:45

Oh God yum Costa 😍😍 drool
I used to get a gluten free sandwich wrap a large caramel latte and a gluten free brownie during my lunch in town 🙈 awful Haha it's so damn tempting though!
Planning is good one to get round those cravings. I second that Thermos idea from reastie - you can get some taller ones that hold all manner of meals and snacks. Amazing.

purple 😂😂😂🙈 control freak alert Haha. I think it's a very sensible and dedicated idea. It's far too easy to stray.

roman that's interesting about T20. Though I'm not surprised - seeing the videos is enough. Working out without shoes is a bad idea unless you're doing weights 🙈 I follow beachbody on Instagram and they've done a hybrid calendar with Shaun and Joel.
I think I'm a full convert to Joel... Shaun will forever hold a place in my heart but Joel is the one that does it for me now 🤣🤣🤣

Purpleraindeer · 09/05/2019 22:00

I like the idea of the thermos. This is particularly relevant to me today as I took soup for lunch and there was nowhere to heat it so I had it cold Shock. I never buy lunch now - I always take leftovers or salad or something. I found I was just buying horrible expensive sandwiches and not enjoying them. As roman says - it took a bit of a mind set shift to prep every day but I’m used to it now and mostly people look on my delicious lunch with envy whilst they eat their dry sandwiches!

So, I gave my super heavy new weights a go. It was back/biceps so I could only use them for the rows. I managed 7 in the first set, then 5 for the next 2. I dropped down to my 8kg to finish the Sets. I will feel it tomorrow!

Theromanempire · 10/05/2019 09:25

purple I love how you casually say you dropped down to 8kg weights as your lighter option when 7.5kg is my absolute heaviest and I can only really do chest presses and rows with them Grin You must really be super strong.

I agree that it could be worth trying to do some exercises with heavier ones but I can definitely tell that my form goes to pieces when I use the 7.5kg which Joel says is a definite no-no so I assume I am not quite ready yet?? Still don't know what to do - such a dilemma. The DC both need new cricket and football boots (ffs!! at the same damn time!!) so I honestly think the weights are not a possibility now anyway.

Plink I am so with you on the Joel love - totally my favourite instructor ever and Liift is totally my favourite workout ever. I know I have said it before but the 'motivational speech Shaun T' really pisses me off - he was bearable in T25 but anything he has done after is just plain annoying!

Jericho is bringing a new workout in the Autumn (I think) - 100 different workouts set to live DJ music Hmm Not really sure how I feel about it and I can imagine DH's face although the opportunity to ogle Jericho may well influence his view.

OP posts:
Reastie · 10/05/2019 11:27

Purple well done on the super heavy weights. Heaviest weights I’ve ever done other than pump were 5kg! Heaviest with pump I think I got to was something ridiculous like 1/3 of my body weight, but that was only for the squats!

I did an exceedingly gentle yoga routine for 20 minutes this morning. Hoping even if nt exercise the stretching is good for me. Back is starting to ache a fair bit now, but can’t complain as getting close to 34 weeks so to be expected.

See I love Shaun t on insanity and t25, so motivational but I didn’t like him on insanity max. I don’t know why, it felt like he was trying to replicate insanity but it just seemed a bit fake and set up some how. Like when he said ‘is anyone nervous’ at the start of one of them as a blantant copy of the nervous comment on pure cardio. I haven’t seen any of his more recent motivational stuff.

I have Danielle and Tania from insanity on my Instagram and am getting annoyed by them a) because they’re posting about their workouts and I can’t do them b) because it just somehow seems a bit false. I can’t pinpoint why it seems false and they do post their struggles etc. It just feels like they’re trying so hard to market themselves, although they must be doing it very well from their lifestyles. Maybe I’m just in a bitchy pg woman mood.

Thermo Jericho came up on my insta too and she’s looking really thin now, too thin imo. But I liked her in pump. I don’t get the live dd music though, surely that’s just regular music played by a person?

Yumy I bet if you cut out the hot choc and did nothing else that might be enough for a difference as those things can be really calorie laden. From a quick google I found they might be 350 cals and 15 g fat! Take a sachet of low calorie hot choc in to work and have one with kettle water for more like 40 cals! I used to swear by those (before I gave up sugar and sweetners) but fill my sugar chocolate craving but not give me lots of fat and calories.

Arms are looking horrible and chubby but very limited for gentle arm stuff as my elbow injury has got worse despite no exercise Shock . I’m eyerolling at the specialist who told me if I stopped working out it would cure itself as that’s clearly no the case!

Already planning on getting my bike indoors and indoor cycling during bfing. That’s got to be possible, right? Might not be able to really go for it but would be something that I can start gently a few weeks post section and build up.

PlinkPlink · 10/05/2019 12:21

Roman yeah Joel seems to be a lot more genuine. Its feels very organic and natural whereas Shaun T loves the script. Insanity was good, that felt pretty natural. I follow him on Instagram and I get a bit irritated that every 5 minutes he mentions the word 'transform' or 'trust and believe'.
Hmm

I haven't done any Jericho ones... maybe I need to 🤔🤔 see what that's all about?

Well done on the yoga Reastie you're doing so bloody well!!
I follow Tania too and she gets on my wick after a while. She looooooves posting about her morning routine with her pink coffee mug and her pink iPad and her pink cushions and her Louis Vuitton bag and her pink sunglasses Hmm
I dont think it's very fair to use her as their example tbh. On T25 they were like 'look at Tania, she's had a baby and look at all his weight shes lost'... well, she was a dancer for Britney Spears before Insanity, and she hadn't had her baby by the time she got round to Insanity. I feel shes a bit of an unfair example.

Have you also noticed the huge print she has of herself in her house? Grin

From the photos you posted the other day, I'd say you really dont look chubby at all. You're are lovely and slim, and I wish I'd had your figure you whilst I was pg (slightly envious 😂😂)

Theromanempire · 10/05/2019 12:21

Reastie I also follow Tania on Facebook and it seems clear to me that there is some kind of pyramid scheme going on - all their posts smack of the advice given to Forever Living/Younique reps (there are threads/blogs about these schemes which I find fascinating) which is basically 'fake it till you make it' and only the ones at the top actually make any money. Now I assume that Tania is one of those at the top due to her high profile (with Insanity/T25 etc) which is why her lifestyle is so amazing - but it is all about recruiting other 'coaches' by selling the lifestyle of money, working from home, flexibility etc. Really pisses me off and I am not sure why I still follow her Grin

I agree about Jericho - I also think she has gone too thin and her face looks really drawn and 'hard' (iykwim). In CDF, she had recently had a baby so I assume that wasn't her fighting weight (although she was still very slim) but she looked a million times better there than she does now. Maybe there is truth in the saying that you have to choose your face or your ass??

OP posts:
Reastie · 10/05/2019 12:34

In pump Jericho was pre baby and looked fit but not unhealthily so. Interestingly Charlene had a fb post a few weeks ago admitting when she did the bb workouts she was at her most unhealthy attitude to food and exercise and the only reason she looked as she did was because she barely ate and obsessively exercised. Just shows the whole thing is unhealthy and unachievable.

Plink you’re very kind, I think maybe the photos were more generous than I thought. I’ve gone up two dress sizes. That’s as in not including my big stomach. My old jacket won’t go on even undone as my arms and back are too fat for it! I was a size 12 and after this baby bump goes I reckon I’ll be size 16. Which I know isn’t huge. But given how hard I worked to get down to a size 12 it feels a lot iykwim. I just have to pray I don’t continue to gain weight post birth. With dd I put on an extra 2 stone in less than a year after she was born due to shaky hunger bfing. I literally couldn’t not eat all the time. I guess I just hope I can be more physically active which will limit gain.

Theromanempire · 10/05/2019 12:48

Reastie ooh, I stopped following Chalene a couple of years ago as her motivational stuff was irritating (I am easily irritated Grin). I have just had a look at her FB page and amazed that she has turned her back on the fitness industry/BB Shock I wonder what BB think about it (is PiYo still available??) Good on her - she is talking a lot of sense about the unrealistic impression and pressure those social media photos can make. She totally looks so much healthier now - almost like she is glowing from inside (I know that sounds bollocks but it is true!)

OP posts:
PlinkPlink · 10/05/2019 12:54

Yes the coaching side does seem to be like that. Lots of people posting all their goodies they receive from Beachbody and the retreats they do. Show all the good stuff of their lifestyle so they encourage more people to join. Classic pyramid scheme tactics.

It'll get there Reastie DS wouldn't let me workout 🙈🙈 he'd whinge if he wasnt constantly attached to me. At 6 months, 10 mins was the max he could take even when he was with his DF. It pissed me off 😂😂 so I just focused on my diet and tried that way. I managed to get it off without exercising for about a year so never fear. Even if you can't exercise, you can do it through diet for a bit. There's always options and give yourself plenty of time to lose it. A year to 18 months? Are you planning in BFing this time too?

Reastie · 10/05/2019 13:12

Thanks. I was 140 lbs pre preg. I’m now 184 lbs. I’d love to be 150 lbs within 6 months but I don’t know if that’s even vaguely achievable. Thing about dieting is it has never worked for me, it’s always been exercise that has worked as I can’t explain it but internally it makes me feel better and helps with hunger and makes me want to make better choices. It makes me eat less somehow. When my body is sluggish I’m constantly hungry and so just trying to eat less never works with my weird ibs that plays up when I get too hungry.

Speaking of insta/fb bb people, I find it inte eating Shaun t’s twins are built so differently. One is slim and the other very chunky looking. Presumably they have the same diet and activity (although granted one may eat more than another abd be more lazy) but it just shows how much of our size can be down to dna and how we’re wired. I’ve always struggled with hunger and have envied people who can ‘forget’ to have meals. There’s no way I could ever do that. I’m always more hungry than most people I know and it’s a predominant factor to why I’ve struggled with my weight in the past. Even pre preg I would still eat constantly and more often than most people but had gradually got portion down and choices were good. It’s like a real physical pain that other people don’t all seem to experience. Dh can just skip breakfast at week ends and say he’s trying to eat less and not understand that I can’t do this.

Theromanempire · 10/05/2019 17:19

reastie I hear you with the hunger - I also seem to need to eat more than others and have never in my life 'forgotten' a meal!! I am sure I appear greedy to others Blush I have a colleague who will eat a small plate of food, leave some and declare she is 'stuffed'. That to me is as alien as I am sure I must appear to them with my 3 course meals Grin My life is a constant battle of trying to ignore hunger!

I did wonder if the difference between Shaun T's twins was maybe genetic? Different mothers/fathers due to donor eggs and maybe Shaun and his partner each fathering one each? Clearly I have no idea what the situation is so complete speculation Wink
