Thanks roman and well done on fix workout improvements!

...waiting for plumber don't want to be mid burpee when he arrives Grin , cant shower either till its fixed as that's what flooded the toilet believe it or not. Carpet smells weird, but at least the water was clean (as clean as water that has gone from the shower and through the toilet can be!) .

Purpleraindeer · 24/06/2017 14:53

You seem very relaxed re carpet/toilet poppy. I'd have been crying or raging. Broken house stuff drives me crazy.

Legs felt tired today. Am in week 3 of max30 mth 2 and am getting used to the pace and intensity of the workouts but they're leaving me tired. Managed max out strength today. Got through all the 8 count push ups. Good victory. No idea how anyone can do the tricep hold at the end though. I feel like watching the DVD back to see how many of the cast manage it!

Definitely sounds like progress on 21df Roman. Fab! It's so encouraging when that happens.

Reastie · 24/06/2017 15:11

Yumy I hate it when things like that go wrong. I hope it's easily fixed and the carpet dries out. If it helps I think you can hire dehumidifier machines from those hire places and that for a couple of days in the bathroom would dry out any dampness in the carpet and hopefully and weird smells too.

Great hearing about these workouts.

Did a pb run this morning : 11 1/4 km :) very proud of myself and feeling great although did have a huge lunch as the run made me ravenous.

Went to physio the other day and very interesting her opinion on my dvds. She says previously before injury I was working too hard which she thinks is a big causal factor to my injury (was doing something every day and counting yoga class and 30-40 minutes swim as active recovery). She said 5 times a week max and rest days the most active I should be is something like a dog walk. She was also very dismissive at me telling her about THs p90x3 workout where it's pull up then push up etc. She said it's far too many push ups and pull ups to do in one workout and she'd never heard of anything like it. Now I'm really confused. She must know what she's talking about yet tony is a bit of a workout mastermind. Are all these hard core bb workouts actually not that good for you or only good in the short term and not designed to be followed over a prolonged period? I'm now wondering if I'll ever manage to do a full bb programme again or if I'll always be modifying the workout programmes.

She asked me to think about what my fitness goals were and why I worked out so we can work out a long term plan so as not to reinjure myself and have something in place that's safe for me. So, what are your fitness goals/aims? I've been thinking about this for the last day and I'm not really sure. I want to be the best I can be so I always want to be better than where I am. There's always more progress I can make e.g. One day I will do a plyo push up. I also workout to be fit and healthy as to help my stress and anxiety levels but probably the one worry I have is that if I stop working out I will put back on all of the 7 stone + I've lost. I live in constant fear of this which is why I worked out every day as I'd tell myself I wasn't trying hard enough if I didn't work out every day. Cutting down a bit on exercise has made me realise I really don't have to workout every day and I don't feel as guilty as I did (I did feel that I'd let myself down and that I wasn't trying enough when I didn't workout). This is a mental thing I need to get over I suppose. Maybe so long as I feel relatively fit and healthy and I don't go up a dress size I should be happy not pushing myself crazily? But I don't feel that's enough somehow, I want to be good enough to do the dvds! Gah. What is this ur stance?

Blush sorry I whittered a bit there.

Well done on the run pb reastie Star

Purpleraindeer · 25/06/2017 10:26

Sorry - pressed post by mistake....

I'd take what the physio said with a pinch of salt reastie. In my experience all physios criticise whatever exercise you do as all exercise gives the risk of injury especially if you're doing it at a level of intensity to improve or get fit. The only thing physios approve of is yoga or Pilates.

I think she/he has a point about the volume of exercise you were doing though. There is no way I could work out 7 days pw. My balance is 5dpw and on rest days I do no exercise at all. I find even doing 4 days in a row is pushing it. I'm 42 so no spring chicken, but even when I was in my early 30s I couldn't do more than 5 days. But the quid pro quo is if I have 2 rest days I can handle doing intense bb workouts and I really enjoy them.

I exercise as I like to be fit and strong and I like the way my body looks when I'm fit. On goals I don't think about it too much but tend to set very specific short term ones (e.g. Be able to do a pistol squat, unassisted pull up etc) and also then target something longer term (complete p90x3, run a sub 55min 10k, do the SAS race etc). I also have a weight max I don't let myself get above.

am supposed to be doing Friday fight 2 today. Feel quite tired again. Hopefully will get a burst of energy later!

TheBusThatCouldntSlowDown · 25/06/2017 17:00

I agree with purple physios want everybody to do low impact, slow exercise because they see injuries all the time and I think it makes them very risk averse. The human body is made to move and climb and jump and run on a daily basis. In caveman times our ancestors would be active all day, every day. probably they would get trampled to death by mammoths before suffering exercise related injuries but let's not go there . As long as you take care of your body, and listen to any niggling pains as a sign to step back a little, I don't think this will cause any issues.

Reastie really well done for losing 7 stone! That's a huge achievement and you must have been so disciplined and hardworking to do that. Did you do all this with the Beachbody workouts? That's amazing.

I did the same this week as last week: did T25 Monday to Thursday, then went out on Friday and did nothing all weekend. I rarely go out, but this has been a busy couple of weeks socially. I have been doing my measurements too and I've lost a few inches from everywhere. I can also feel muscles growing in my back, my core and legs, so this programme is really working for me, even with working out only 4 days a week.

Reastie · 25/06/2017 20:50

Interesting physio talk. Mine recommends I do my own weights workouts from things that I know I can do despite injury and doesn't quite get that I like to be told what to do by a DVD.

Bus that's brilliant that 4 x a week can still have such a positive effect.

Purple did you do Friday fight 2? Am I the only one that gets frustrated when I do Friday fight not on a Friday? I know it's silly but it feels a bit wrong given the name!

Did a quick cycle this morning as all I had time for. Did 30 minutes instead of my usual 45-60 but tried to go harder than usual. I got a cushioned bike seat thing to go on top of my regular bike seat in the hope of preventing sore lady parts from cycling but it didn't help at all (maybe I was putting too much faith in the pound shop). Definitely need some padded shorts but every time I look online I get confused and chicken out of getting something.

Planing a rest day tomorrow but really looking forward to trying out s short combat workout on Tuesday. I am having to force myself not to do it tomorrow as figure after epic run on Saturday I need a cheeky rest day whilst I'm continuing to try to be good. Going to try pump again on Thursday too (well, that's the plan).

Theromanempire · 26/06/2017 11:33

Reastie I agree with the others - physio always err on the side of caution so would always advise against activities they probably don't understand. Bit like how the advice in pregnancy is always to do 'gentle exercise' whereas you can actually pretty much continue most exercise during pregnancy!

Just listen to your body. I totally get where you are coming from in respect of total paranoia about putting the weight back on but rest days are so important. Clearly you have got your eating under control to have lost 7 stone so you are on top of it and a couple of rest days a week will do you the world of good. If you really want to do something, go for a short walk on those days. Sorry - lecture over Grin

Purpleraindeer · 26/06/2017 21:08

Well I didn't do Friday fight2 yesterday. I couldn't face it which is unlike me. I was cross with myself by 10pm last night as I was in a bit of a grump from not exercising and then found it difficult to sleep. Note to self: don't duck out of planned exercise as it doesn't actually make me feel better!

Did it tonight. My DVD has a scratch Shock so it skips 45s of the iron legs move at the beginning of the workout. It turns out that by not doing that I don't max out until 17mins. When I do that move I can't get past 12mins. This is proof that that move is ridiculously hard.

Definitely get some cycle shorts reastie. They'll make so much more difference than padding the seat. Even something cheap will really help - no need for a big investment. Your bum will thank you Smile

Reastie · 27/06/2017 15:15

Purple that's so annoying your DVD has scratched. My combat 45 power has scratched and it drives me mad as it keeps repeating and cutting out etc. I'm really careful with my workout dvds too :( well done for doing the workout albeit a day late, and lesson is now learnt for future with skipping workouts!

Thank you for the advice. Today I'm very excited to report I did combat 30. This is the shortest and easiest combat workout BUT it's been over 6 months since I've last week oked to do combat. Physio wants me to try reintroducing stuff just modifying where I need to. Problem is I'm rubbish at modifying as I want to be doing it properly! Still, I think I was relatively gentle and still got a sweat. I'm hoping it doesn't flair everything up and maybe over the summer I can get to the hour long combat routines. I even missed the jokes about Dan being short a little -but didn't miss Rachel singing out of tune--.

yumyumpoppycat · 27/06/2017 20:56

Some of the max 30 dvds I got second hand from ebay are jumpy - the really annoying thing is they are much cheaper new now than I paid for second hand.

Reastie really great that you are making progress - yy to Roman's advice to keep listening to your body though {wags finger}

resistance 3 - stand up sit down - sooooo hard... but my nemesis scissor kicks are improving - I have been visualising my core - must be that ;)

Purpleraindeer · 28/06/2017 21:49

Did max out cardio tonight. Phew. This is my last week of max30. On hols next week so will just fit workouts in when I can.

Stand up sit down is awful poppy - however is something so easy sounding so difficult?!

yumyumpoppycat · 29/06/2017 09:56

I know its bonkers Purple, who would have thought I would need to modify getting up from the floor! Exciting to be going on a hol soon :)

This am dd2 wanted to join me exercising so we did a darcy bussel pilates mini workout - dd was distinctly unimpressed with it compared to my usual beachbody stuff - but it was very funny when there was a dog pose where you lift one leg in the air as dd called it 'dog doing a wee wee ' and it would never have occurred to me that that was the reason it was called dog pose - but clearly she is spot on! Then did a bit of turbofire HIIT 15 but I didn't take too much persuasion from dd1 to stop working out and go help make packed lunches.

Reastie · 29/06/2017 10:07

Yumy dd loves the tf hiit workouts. I think it's because they are quite short and lots of moves she can try to copy quite easily and it's quite dancy. I got dd a flower fairies children exercise DVD which is quite ballet oriented and she wasn't impressed with that either. Actually, she sort of did like it but only in the capacity of watching the children doing the moves rather than joining in!

Purple are you off anywhere exciting? I am on holiday two weeks today, woohoo! Only a staycation but still exciting. I'm hoping to do a couple of runs and maybe a couple of workouts too but trying to take it a bit easy (usually I keep up to my usual workout routine but I'm trying to be laid back).

Well, I ached in such a good way after combat on Tuesday :) it made me so happy to ache in places I haven't ached in months! Yesterday went for a swim but tbh I was probably a bit too achy to have done it so only did 25 mins and today I'm feeling it and my knee is playing up :( . Was going to do pump today but think that's not a good plan so instead I'll try 21 day fix when I get home (currently having my hair coloured) flat abs and modify the plank stuff in the hope it's ok now (last time it flared up injuries, hoping that won't be the case if I'm super careful). My abs definitely need some fixing ;) .

yumyumpoppycat · 29/06/2017 10:16

Reastie dd2 found HIIT 15 waaaay too energetic Grin it might be worth getting a workout for her actually, she could do it after school when the other two are doing piano or homework. I think there is a beachbody kids workout will have to look for it online.

Does the physio think you might need to do anything extra for your knee? Has made me realise my knees are ok at the mo, so hopefully yours will heal too.

Reastie · 29/06/2017 12:20

Yumy I'm sure shaun t did a kids workout DVD but I think it was only released in America and quite a while ago.

Theromanempire · 29/06/2017 12:56

I had a look at the Shaun T workout - it is quite dancy. I can't get my 2 to do any workouts with me (DS2 will show off his one-armed burpees on request though Grin). I did google some kids workouts on youtube so you might find something there.

Reastie you talking about Dan and Rach make me want to do the combat workouts again...I might do one tonight Smile I so miss the gym classes Sad

I am assuming the yoga dog pose is the static version of the 'fire hydrant' move in Autumn's Lower Fix workout? Basically on all 4 with one leg cocked to the side??

I had a proper splurge on the diet last night as I went out with some friends - drunk lots of wine and ate lots Blush

Going to check out the combat workouts now for tonight Wink

Reastie · 29/06/2017 13:35

Did you know Dan and Rach used to be marrie to each other? Not any more though!

OP posts:
RiversDisguise · 29/06/2017 15:41

Yeah and I want to know the story.Blush

Theromanempire · 29/06/2017 18:40

rivers me too! I find it fascinating that they still clearly work so closely together even though they are divorced! It must have been a very amicable split Wink

Reastie · 29/06/2017 18:58

I know, I think the same! I was also thinking Dan has now remarried. Wouldn't that be odd, having your husband work so much so closely to his exwife (or am I just being controlling?)?

My pair of padded cycling shorts have arrived :). I walk like a cross between a heavily pregnant lady and a cowboy Wink . I sized up as the size guide looked like my regular size might be a bit tight but they are a bit lose so I should've got regular size. Looking forward to testing them out now.

Oh, I keep meaning to ask you ladies. Can you recommend workout knickers that don't give a massive VPL that are cotton? I can't have non cotton as it gives me thrush and my giant granny pants I know show an obvious line on my bottom. I have no shame so it has been this way up until now as I don't know where to get any that won't.

whyhastherumgone · 29/06/2017 19:32

Hello all, can I join? I've been lurking nervously on the periphery - you all seem to have nailed the fitness side and be doing loads! I've recently put on a bit of weight and am generally feeling crap, lethargic, clothes all tight, and am struggling to get back into exercise as I just don't know where to start. I seem to sort of panic and start doing one diet then think it's the wrong thing and switch, same with exercise.

I have got T25 which I'm going to start, alongside C25k and I've signed up for pilates too. But I wanted to ask - there's a lot of references in abbreviations to workouts on the threads and wondered if you could let me know what the full names are?

Do you think T25 is a good place to start, I'm quite keen to get into weights - I've seen a lot about Body Beast - but I don't have loads of equipment...

Thank you, you're all really inspiring!

Reastie · 29/06/2017 20:48

Hello why.

I'm trying to think of the abbreviations. There's 21df 21 day fix, tf turbofire, bb beach body, 22hc 22 minute hard corps. Do we ever refer to tony Horton as TH? Possibly, I'm not sure. Max 30 is insanity max 30. I'm probably missing loads here that others will let you know.

T25 is a great place to start. From memory (although it's been a while) you need a mat and weights but I think that's all (can anyone help?). It's very fast paced with lots going on but I'm sure you'll see the difference and feel fitter quickly. How many workouts a week of t25 are you aiming for alongside the Pilates and running? I've only ever done one of the body beast workouts which was a legs one which I think only needed dumbells.

OP posts:
whyhastherumgone · 29/06/2017 22:10

thank you so much for your reply Reastie appreciate it!

i'm planning on doing one run and one pilates class a week then T25 4 times a week to start - i know that's not the programme but i don't want to break myself before i even get started!

I think for me a lot of isn't is diet too, but i'm always better with eating when i'm exercising regularly as it me feel like i'm undoing all my hard work otherwise.
