For C25K graduates who are taking the next step!

W10R1 this morning, 3x15min runs with minute walks in between. I wasn't at all sure I was going to finish but I did, checked MapMyRun & saw I'd done 6.3K.

Hadn't realised I could run that far!

I've just thought of something.

I've said I'll do another sponsored run in 5 years' time. Same charity.

One reason people were so generous this time was that they knew that for me, the 10K was going to mean months of bloody hard work. That's not going to be true next time though, is it?

Five years should be loads of time to get to half-marathon level...

MumBod · 25/06/2017 19:37

First run since I did the 10k and it was awful. Pulled up before 4K. Very pissed off. Heart and head just wasn't in it.

shortaris1 · 25/06/2017 20:04

I had a horrid run today too Mum Gone further before and done the route before but today was vile. Guess I lost fitness on holidays. Onwards and upwards.

Glad you enjoyed your swim Empress Hopefully everyone will have forgotten in 5 years!

Well done on your fast run Ski

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 25/06/2017 22:18

There are some days when you just don't feel it, aren't there?

Thanks Shortaris, I hope so! Although I kind of like the idea of the challenge too.

MumBod · 25/06/2017 22:24

I was so disappointed - I read Running Like A Girl over the weekend and really felt inspired.

But nope. Nothing happening.

KanyesLunchbox · 25/06/2017 23:59

I think that's what I find hardest about running, Mum, for me it's a complete lottery about feeling right, not being tired, having enough energy, weather being comfortable, what the entrails of the day's sacrifice say, and how they and a million other almost imperceptible factors combine to make a run good or not. The control freak in me gets very upset by it.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 26/06/2017 07:52

All of that. But I still miss it when I can't do it.

I'm going to give it a go tomorrow morning.

MumBod · 26/06/2017 08:55

Thank you, Kanye, that's a really helpful post.

SkiBike007 · 26/06/2017 13:38

It's crap when it doesn't work but have faith it has worked before so it will again just keep trying.

I tried something new today some interval training using the NHS 5+ speed app. I did 6x1min sprints and followed each with 1min slow and repeated! I felt sick by the end but then carried on at lower pace upto 4.5k i just couldn't finish the full 5k. But I did record my fastest 1mile, 2mile and 1k Grin so it did work. I'm going to try do 1session a week like this time permitting. See if I can get that 5k under 30mins which I'd love to do Smile

Good luck on your long term goal empress. I started tentatively checking out tris at the wend. There's a "intro-tri" in sept which based on the distances I should easily be able to do but putting all three together swim/cycle/run may proof harder than I think Grin

WheresTheEvidence · 26/06/2017 22:07

Am swapping from C25k to 10k.

Did my first train run which was 4 sets of 10 minute runs interspersed with 1 minute walks. Much easier I found than the run 25minutes on the week 7 of C25k. Will mix it up with the training to finish the C25k app and to continue with the 10k training. Just need to find some new running routes. Luckily we have some amazing places nearby but what to mix it up a bit.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 27/06/2017 08:10

Welcome to the thread, Wheres!

I use an app called New Route that helps me map out routes to try.

Triathlon? Wow Ski. Good luck.

I'm back up & running Grin. Just a couple of k today but God it felt good. Currently celebrating with coffee & crumpets.

SkiBike007 · 28/06/2017 11:20

A rainy angry early 5k run this morning after some really shitty news from work yesterday I ran a fast sub 32mins for me. And arrhhh it felt better after Smile

KanyesLunchbox · 28/06/2017 21:48

That doesn't sound good, Ski. Hope things will be ok.

How's the leg, Empress? I hear crumpets are highly recommended as the newest recovery aid Grin

Hi Where's, nice to have you here. I use www.plotaroute.com to work out my new runs.

I did a very slooowwwww 6.25k this evening. I had intended to go back to the bridge to 10k programme but I forgot to start the app Blush

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 30/06/2017 06:05

Hope you're ok, Ski.

Seems to be fine now thanks Kanye Grin. Crumpets work for me!

MumBod · 30/06/2017 08:53

I've had a horrific week, without going into too much detail, so haven't run since my disastrous attempt on Sunday.

I just got back from a head-clearing 5.5k and it felt fantastic. No music, just my feet and the road, and I feel 100% better for it.

When it works, there's nothing like it, is there?

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 30/06/2017 09:05

Mum CakeFlowersBrew

When it works, there's absolutely nothing like it. That feeling makes it all worth it.

MumBod · 30/06/2017 10:15

It really does, Empress

SkiBike007 · 30/06/2017 16:09

I'm with you mum and thanks empress & kanye I've been put in a horribly stressful situation at work in the last two weeks and running short quick 5ks has been my saviour!

SkiBike007 · 30/06/2017 16:44

I did 5k this morning before work. I'm hoping to do a longer run on Sunday, as I've got two weeks till my race for life 10k and I'd like to be able to do it comfortably as I find crowds of people overwhelming so I'm more nervous about that than the run!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 30/06/2017 17:13

I hate crowds normally too Ski (despite living in London), I actually started going to shopping centres on Saturdays to practise getting used to them.

But on the day I found it wasn't a problem, I just had too much else to think about. And people did spread out pretty quickly.

Good luck anyway!

KanyesLunchbox · 01/07/2017 19:14

Sorry for the crappy week's events. Hope everything improves soon. Flowers I agree though, the physical effort of a run can be very therapeutic in such circumstances.

I have had one intentional and one unintentional rest day. I was planning a run this morning evening, but may have accidentally had a couple of beers at the cul de sac BBQ this afternoon. On a scale of one to very, how silly would I be to go for a plod?? It won't be until about 9 and I've only had 2 bottles ...

SkiBike007 · 01/07/2017 20:13

Thanks for encouragement I got my dates muddled it's 3wks to the 10k race for life doh! The next few weekends are packed with my DDs stuff & visitors.
Hope the plod goes ok kanye sounds like a good day Smile.

I'm planning a run early tomorrow and the tide times are perfect so if it's not too windy I'm going to try running the beach for the first time Grin my DH has done it twice recently and really enjoyed it, but we have to go at low tide to get to the compact sand bit.

KanyesLunchbox · 01/07/2017 21:11

Sand run sounds good, Ski but I'd guess it's much more challenging for the leg muscles?

Yeah, the evening got better more beery so I think that's that for the run Blush

SkiBike007 · 02/07/2017 07:42

Fab morning runGrin

Great work everyone and sounds like the best reason ever not to go for a run Kanye!
My 10k is next weekend and I'm worrying again now. I've been having trouble with my knee and been limping around for a few weeks now. Physio is helping and I'm keeping it taped up as much as possible but I've only managed short runs for about ten days- I had to stop after 5k yesterday. I'm having acupuncture on my knee on Thursday and just want to get it ok enough to finish the race. After that it seems inevitable that I will have to have surgery on it and retire from running for a while Sad. Not feeling good about this but physio alone isn't curing it and having had surgery before on my other knee I know it helped Sad
