For C25K graduates who are taking the next step!

W10R1 this morning, 3x15min runs with minute walks in between. I wasn't at all sure I was going to finish but I did, checked MapMyRun & saw I'd done 6.3K.

Hadn't realised I could run that far!

That's amazing Mum! Well done!

Its boiling here again today so I'm on my way to the pool for a swim.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 20/06/2017 12:57

It's strange isn't it? I think my body just starts winding down in the final k, whether I'm doing a 5 or a 10 or something else.

kirinm · 20/06/2017 15:28

Sorry for interrupting but I wanted some advice from fellow runners. Are you running in this heat? Was aiming to do 10km after work but a bit conflicted - I wasn't until someone implied it was an odd thing to do.

KanyesLunchbox · 20/06/2017 16:12

In the same with everything I do Empress not just running . Once I know I can do something, I kind of can't be bothered doing it again Blush

KanyesLunchbox · 20/06/2017 16:15

Sorry, kirinm, I didn't see your message. If you feel up to it, go for it. 10k isn't a crazy distance as long as you're comfortable. I'm uncomfortable running in a balmy breeze, but that's nothing to do with the weather and everything to do with me being bad at running Blush so I'm using any excuse to bail!

MumBod · 20/06/2017 16:16

Kanye - me too! I'm determined not to let that happen this time!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 20/06/2017 16:19

I know what you mean, Kanye.

Running's not going to rule my life like it has been but I've decided I'm going to keep up with the Parkruns & run a 5k to work at least once a week. And the swimming, going to buy a costume this evening.

I'm so much fitter than when I started, I can't let myself let it go!

kirinm · 20/06/2017 16:31

Thanks. I was worried I might keel over by the reaction 'going for a run tonight' got in my office.

SkiBike007 · 20/06/2017 16:45

Arrh wrote a reply & it dropped

Well done mum great run & time

kirinm do what suits you just hydrate, I got up at 5.45am on sunday to run as I don't like running in the heat and even then the 16-18c was too hot for me. I need a drink if doing more than 5k so carry a throw away bottle at the half way mark Smile

empress hope the swimming helps the foot to heal. Come check out the jump in swimming for fitness thread lots different folks & levels on there. They have really helped motivate me. Good luck with costume hunt I hate finding cosies to fit as my bust is too big for most "sporty" ones grrrr.

KanyesLunchbox · 20/06/2017 16:45

Could you do a route that will be easy to loop back or just double back on yourself if you start to feel the heat too much? As I said above, I'm far from a natural runner but it always amazes me how hard people think running is. I was given "advice" to carb load before my first 10k. Even I drew the the line at guilt free macaroni cheese for three days before Grin

shortaris1 · 20/06/2017 21:18

Amazing time mum Well done you!

I really struggle in the heat kirinm but if you can do at least some of it then that's great.

Swimming is a good plan Empress . I'm booby too ski so I got my (very unsexy but supportive* cossie in Bravissimo.

Kanye that made me smile. I did have pizza after my 10k though

kirinm · 20/06/2017 22:31

I managed 6k and melted my way back home. I'll have another go at the weekend as it's meant to be cooler by then.

SkiBike007 · 21/06/2017 18:27

I did a super early pre-work fast 5k this morning was still really hot but good to get it ticked off Smile

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 21/06/2017 20:56

I'm just out of the pool & walking home with wet hair. Which feels lovely!

I did a sort of breaststroke, with lots of breaks & more arm than leg but it got me along. So it's a start Grin.

SkiBike007 · 21/06/2017 21:22

Well done empress do they do any lessons or "swimfit" sessions with a teacher on hand for hints n tips to help with technique? Our pool has public sessions with lanes but a swimming teacher is there and gives advice if you ask.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 21/06/2017 21:34

Thanks Ski. Yes, they do adult swimming courses so I'm going to find out more about that.

How did you get on in London?

SkiBike007 · 22/06/2017 06:13

London was very hot& busy! I was super glad to get home again. I'm reading the book Leap in by Alexandra Heminsley that someone on the other thread recommended it's good you may like it. She had taught herself to run marathons and is now trying to learn to swim.

Zippyzulu · 22/06/2017 11:59

I've been off line and off- running for a while but glad to see everyone's getting on well. I have had knee problems and it's also been too hot to run but it's slightly cooler today and I managed my first 10k Smile took me 1.04 so my aim of sub 30 at my race in two weeks is highly h likely but I'm still pleased I managed it so all good really. Sweating like mad now though!
I'm going to stick with one longer run per week and 2 x 5k and decide after the race whether or not I want to do any more! I'm never doing a half marathon though, that's a certainty!

MumBod · 22/06/2017 12:57

I felt absolutely crap yesterday! Not achey at all, just nauseous and I had the runs, and was sort of spaced out.

Is that normal after a first big run?

MumBod · 22/06/2017 12:58

Well done, zippyzulu!

Zippyzulu · 22/06/2017 20:40

Very normal mumbod! I have to time my runs very carefully- if you feel the 'urge' then my top tip is not to stop...

SkiBike007 · 22/06/2017 21:19

I don't suffer but my DH does sometimes get "runners tummy" it's a known thing apparently. Hopefully when it's less hot you will feel better.

KanyesLunchbox · 23/06/2017 14:52

I get awful runner's gut, but it only seems to hit me when I go past 8km so that will be my limit for now. Not that I'm running much Blush I'm using the "hot and heavy weather" excuse to go swimming instead!

How did you get on with your swim, Empress?

SkiBike007 · 24/06/2017 07:42

Hot sick heavy humid 10k done early this morning but then when I uploaded it at home it was my fastest Grin no wonder it felt flipping hardwork I actually walked at 9k mark for 60secs so it was nearly a 66min run but my hands were tingling so I made myself walk to rebalance. I was channeling empress words in my head at 7.5k mark to keep going "it's just another 0.5k..u can do it...another lamppost come on.."
Happy weekend running lovely ladies.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 24/06/2017 10:21

It was good thanks, Kanye. Half messing about in the water, half sort-of-breaststroke. When I go next week I'm going to ask about booking into a course.

Ski, thanks for the book recommendation, I think I'm going to get that one and Running Like A Girl. London's cooled down a bit - finally!

Zippy, congratulations on your 10K!

My foot's feeling a lot better so I'm going to give it another week & then hopefully get back to Parkrun.
