For C25K graduates who are taking the next step!

W10R1 this morning, 3x15min runs with minute walks in between. I wasn't at all sure I was going to finish but I did, checked MapMyRun & saw I'd done 6.3K.

Hadn't realised I could run that far!

Loving all the progress on here! I've been poorly this week so only managed 5k on Monday and a slow 3k yesterday. Starting to feel more human now so planning to do a parkrun on Saturday and aim for 9k along the towpath on Monday (yep, the towpath with pub at the end where dh and the dc will wait Grin)
Just need to hope the rain stays away but the sun doesn't shine too brightly for ideal running conditions!

ScarlettDarling · 27/04/2017 21:04

Have wondered about posting on this thread for a while. I used to post on the old couch to 5k thread but then everyone graduated and moved here! Well, I've graduated now too and am managing to run 5k a few times a week, but I have no intention of trying to get to 10k. I'd like to do the 5k quicker and easier though, so I've been lurking here for tips and hints. Is it ok if I join in here even though I'm not aiming for 10k?

littlemissM92 · 27/04/2017 21:18

Of course Scarlett- Smile

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 27/04/2017 21:27

Hello Scarlett! Welcome to the thread!

SkiBike007 · 27/04/2017 22:32

Waves at scarlett welldone on getting to 5k. I've spent a few months building my speed & stamina at 5k so that it actually starting to feel more comfortable now Smile.
I'm going to miss my Friday eve run as DH away which is bummer as I won't get a chance until Monday to run now. I did get a 1k swim today, mostly with the pool to myself which was lovely Grin

KanyesVest · 28/04/2017 18:08

Hi Scarlett, I'm trying and failing to get faster too. I think speed intervals ate helping, if you haven't tried them yet?

Oh, I'm jealous of you having an empty pool Ski, I can't find a time that isn't full of speedsters or people even slower than me.

I just did 3k (according to my step app) of running up and down the path through our green holding and letting go of ds who just got his first big boy bike Grin. My back is broken from it so not sure I'll get a proper run in tonight.

Zippyzulu · 28/04/2017 19:18

Welcome Scarlett!
Other than run after dd on her scooter today I haven't done anything since Wednesday. Off to parkrun tomorrow to see how I do.
I've been reading lots online about jeffing, i.e. Walk/ run intervals. Lots f people seek to be getting much faster times overall so I'm tempted to try it, maybe in the 10K I'm going to attempt on Monday. It just seems weird when I've spent all this time increasing the period of time I can run for!
Good luck with weekend runs everyone Smile

Iwannasnack · 28/04/2017 19:28

Hello. Can I join? I 'graduated' from C25k a few weeks ago and have been lurking here for a while. Never been able to run before but now actually considering signing up for the Great South Run in October. Furthest I've run so far was 7k with walk breaks but getting there!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 28/04/2017 20:26

Welcome to the thread, Iwanna!

I've been reading about jeffing too, Zippy. There was a bit about the huff & puff rule where you walk for a bit every time you get out of breath. I'm planning a 12k tomorrow so I think I'll try that (if I do it!)

ScarlettDarling · 28/04/2017 21:59

Thanks all. Going to do a 5k tomorrow and try to get closer to 33 mins than 34. Think I have to try and push myself near the end rather than at the start as I still find the first 10 mins horribly hard.

I'll google 'speed intervals' and 'jeffing', see if there's anything that might help me.

SkiBike007 · 28/04/2017 22:13

It was an outdoor pool kanye the water is lovely and warm but the frost in the morn had put off the "heads up/hair dry" older ladies Grin it was a lovely swim.

Never heard term "jeffing" neighter had autocorrect on my phone grrrrr missing my usual Friday run (DH away so no babysitter) so sat and ate chocolate instead which isn't gd Blush

Gd luck with the 12k empress that's pushing the boundaries Grin we might have to re-name the thread.

littlemissM92 · 29/04/2017 08:53

Doing park run next sat instead so have done a slowww 6.4k 42 min

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/04/2017 08:57

Grin It's psychological, Ski, I do this and the 10K feels less of an effort!

Already, Miss? Impressed!

I will get up and out soon. Honestly. Lying in bed with the window open, sun is shining and birds are singing...

ScarlettDarling · 29/04/2017 09:04

Wow 12 k empress!!!!

And Ski an outdoor pool? On a frosty morning? I'm in awe!

littlemissM92 · 29/04/2017 09:08

Ha yes I'm an early bird love it when literally no one is around

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/04/2017 12:45

I love it once I'm up, it's just the getting out of bed bit!

Did it. 1hr35 which is fine. And now I want LUNCH!

Zippyzulu · 29/04/2017 16:12

Well done empress, that is impressive! And I'm impressed ski, I love swimming but hate the changing rooms, hanging around getting cold and how it messes with my curly hair!
I'm going to try 10K either tomorrow or Monday (depending on how bad my hangover is tomorrow Grin). Got a PB at Parkrun today of 28.11 so I'm happy with that- if only I could keep that up for 10K! I get to the end and breathe a huge sigh of relief that it's over!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/04/2017 16:17

Thanks Zippy!

Four weeks to go now so I'm planning to get one more 10K in before then and a few 5ks.

KanyesVest · 29/04/2017 19:02

Well.done on the 12k time, Empress, that's great . You'll fly the 10k

I'm debating doing an 8k in 2 weeks, but have to work around dh's pain in the ass hobby at the moment.

I did a short 4k today and it was hard work. I just can't work out how my body perceives my pace/exertion at all. I was running about 30secs per km slower today than earlier in the week, but I felt like I was ploughing through treacle.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 29/04/2017 20:45

Cheers Kanye!

It's weird isn't it? There are some days when I start running & don't get past the first 500m and there seems to be no real pattern.

Zippyzulu · 01/05/2017 20:16

I'm a bit similar today- after a really good, quick (for me) 5k on Saturday I tried to do 6.5 today and it was really difficult. Took me ages and I had to walk for a minute twice. My energy levels were ok but my body was struggling. Dh keeps telling me that my legs are too skinny to run well and I should bulk them up so I might have to take him up on that suggestion if I am to finish 10K in June! I did have a stinking hangover yesterday so maybe it is just lingering!
Hope everyone else enjoys this weeks runs Smile

shortaris1 · 01/05/2017 20:31

Hey all, my foot is still not right. Dr Google suggests it's tendonitis and I should rest it but I want to run!

Swam today instead, 20 lengths. Just hope this is better soon as my 10k is in 5 weeks!

Some great running on here.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 01/05/2017 20:33

20 lengths Shock

Maybe it's worth checking it with your GP, Shortaris?

Zippyzulu · 01/05/2017 20:42

I had similar trouble with my foot and what helped me was changing the laces in my trainers to elastic ones and seeing a sports physio. I also do loads more calf stretched after each run as think that was part of the problem. Took just two sessions with the physio and worked wonders! Yours could be something completely different of course but I didn't do anything that could cause any harm if you think it might help

shortaris1 · 01/05/2017 22:04

Thanks, my pal is a physio. She's going to look tomorrow.
