For C25K graduates who are taking the next step!

W10R1 this morning, 3x15min runs with minute walks in between. I wasn't at all sure I was going to finish but I did, checked MapMyRun & saw I'd done 6.3K.

Hadn't realised I could run that far!

Well done - I am in awe. 4k today as my legs ache from walking all over Paris for the last five days. At least that's my excuse.

Zippyzulu · 24/04/2017 19:28

Well done littlemiss, that's amazing.
I just had a five day break from running as we were away and did a taxing 5k tonight... found it difficult and my legs hurt a bit and it took me almost 29mins, which is a bit slower than usual. I've signed up for a chip timed 5k in two weeks so need to train a bit more!

Still lacking confidence re my 10K in June... all paid up though so it might be a run/walk exercise!

SkiBike007 · 24/04/2017 19:38

Well done chop. Hope Paris was fun.
zippy by name and by run time, your really fast, the 10k should be fine in the time you have left till June. I've been adding 0.5-1k a week and got upto 9k, and could have carried on last week. Can you try something similar? I was walking for 30-60sec at the 20min and 30min mark which was enough to re-charge to keep going, but now dropped that as I've built stamina.

Zippyzulu · 24/04/2017 19:55

Ski, I like that plan and is kind of what I've been doing. It's just tricky fitting in longer runs with 3dc! I did 8.5 k last week with a bit of walking as it was really hot and hilly so I think I can do it but I really want to do it in a good time as I don't want to do 10K again after this! Smile

SkiBike007 · 24/04/2017 22:00

I've tried to do one 5k, one longer run and one swim session a week, which has worked well so far. I have a great DH so we tag team the kids in the evenings/weekends normally Smile as he spends a lot of time on his bike. I like running because you can "squeeze" it into and around "life". Hope you can find some space for yourself.

SkiBike007 · 24/04/2017 22:02

My longer run is normally in the hour my DD is at one of her clubs Grin gives me an incentive to run fast to pick her up!

littlemissM92 · 25/04/2017 07:32

Thanks everyone- zippy u will be fine honestly and I bet you don't walk any! The atmosphere is so different to running at home xx

Howlongtillbedtime · 25/04/2017 07:34

Good morning all

I am tentatively popping in to say hi ! I have eventually (it has taken me years of stopping and starting and giving up) finished couch to 5k and did my first park run in Saturday and loved it.

I am signed up to do a local 5k in a couple of weeks and am now thinking about possibly maybe carrying on to 10k which is scary but reading all your stories is inspiring me .

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 25/04/2017 08:01

Welcome to the thread, Howlong!

I found getting to 10K a lot easier than getting to 5k, if that helps.

Howlongtillbedtime · 25/04/2017 08:23

Thank you empress yes that does help.

Is there an appor programme that has been found to be the best ? I was looking at the Galloway method which looks good .

I also need to lose a lot of lard so hoping this will help.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 25/04/2017 12:00

I used Zenlabs 5-10k. It was good for planning my training but unrealistic about how fast I could go, so I focused more on running specific distances than specific times.

In other news - hey everybody - I'VE BEATEN MY £1,500 SPONSORSHIP TARGET! I did a payday push at work that's got me up to £1,515 so now it's just a question of how much higher I can go in the next 5 weeks!

Howlongtillbedtime · 25/04/2017 16:37

Thank you I will have a look .

Well done on the fundraising !

KanyesVest · 25/04/2017 16:41

Hello, howlong, welcome to our merry troupe. I agree with Empress, physically i found the jump to 10/k easier especially when my proper runner friend told me that once you can do 6k, it's just a matter of keeping going til you get to 10.

I did 7k last night and actually enjoyed it! I was fast (for me), under 7mins per km all the way although I did have to stop for two nose blowing sessions as it dropped to hear freezing and the cold wind was biting. I think the interval training I've been doing has helped as I was fairly steadily paced the whole way.

That's amazing work on your sponsorship, Empress! You should be rightly chuffed with yourself.

Howlongtillbedtime · 25/04/2017 16:49

Thank you for the welcome kanyes

I have been looking at the Galloway programme so started that today and will see how I go . Went out and ran 2miles which is the first bit of the training .

Please tell me that first ten mins gets easier ? I am not saying the second or third ten minutes are easy but the first ten is tough every time .

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 25/04/2017 17:01

Thank you Grin

Good on you Kanye! I did a 5km this morning in 34:19, & that was fast for me too.

Howlong, I think a lot of that might be psychological. I usually spend the first km or so thinking I can't do this, then I get distracted by a song or a view or something and next thing I know I'm halfway.

littlemissM92 · 25/04/2017 17:01

Amazing fundraising !
It was interesting to look at my graph of each k from sun the first 5 were all between 7 -7.30 min and the last 5 were all between 6.30 and 7mins god knows how I got faster ?! lol

I'm about to book the next one for July in Leeds I am too excited I think I've caught the 'bug'!!!

KanyesVest · 25/04/2017 17:02

For me its 2k and no, sorry, it hasn't for me! But the rest of my run has improved significantly, so it kind of makes up for it. And I've realised that if I'm still miserable at 2k, I let myself turn around at 2.5, and since I have to get home somehow, that'll be 5k, so sometimes I can convince myself that I might as well slog through xk more in the middle and at least I'll feel like I've finished the bloody thing. Worst case, I've done 5k.

Mind games? Me? Blush

shortaris1 · 25/04/2017 21:21

Well done littlemiss that's a great time!
Good tip Kanye

Well done Empress that's a great total

Good thinking Ski

Welcome Howlong I still find the first bit tough but usually manage to keep going. I ran a full 10k on Sunday so now I know I can do the distance. Did it in 1.18 so not too far away from where I'd like to be. Was hot and sweaty mind!

KanyesVest · 26/04/2017 00:23

That's a great time for your first 10k, Short well done.

littlemissM92 · 26/04/2017 17:56

4.8k 29min tonight Defo still tired from Sunday legs felt heavy got park run on sat so not going to do anything now til then it's a hilly one too argh

shortaris1 · 26/04/2017 20:15

Good on you getting out little miss

I did a 2k tonight as my foot is a bit sore. 11.30 min miles seem to be my happy place!

KanyesVest · 26/04/2017 22:13

You're both braver than me, I couldn't face running today so went swimming instead Blush

chopchopchop · 27/04/2017 09:36

Did 6.4k this morning, which is the longest I have ever managed. I did it very slowly, but I was just the same pace of slow at the beginning as I was at the end, which I suppose is something. Grin

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 27/04/2017 19:13

Well done Chopchop!

I'm planning a long one by the river this weekend. If it's not raining.

Howlongtillbedtime · 27/04/2017 19:24

Hello all , I am living reading how brill you are all doing !

I went and did 2 miles as part of the 5 to 10k training and for the first time I actually felt like I was running rather than plodding .

Parkrun again on Saturday and I am looking forward to it .

What the hell has happened to me ? I am a middle aged overweight woman how can I be actually running ?
