For C25K graduates who are taking the next step!

W10R1 this morning, 3x15min runs with minute walks in between. I wasn't at all sure I was going to finish but I did, checked MapMyRun & saw I'd done 6.3K.

Hadn't realised I could run that far!

Just popping my head in to say hi ! I am still plodding along . I am doing my first ever 5k event on Sunday , so I will get my first ever medal as well (hopefully)

My dh has just text to ask if I want to go for a run with him when he gets on which is a really odd feeling . He thinks of me as someone that goes for a run !

Weird but fab feeling .

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 02/05/2017 21:23

You're a runner, Howlong! We all are!

Good luck on Sunday.

Howlongtillbedtime · 02/05/2017 21:33

Thanks Empress I think it's going to take a lot of getting used to .

I did it and it felt great ( well you know in a painful and praying for the end way )

And it was a minute quicker than last time Grin

littlemissM92 · 03/05/2017 09:12

Howlong I would LOVE my partner to be my running buddy :( he's not up for it tho!
Had awful niggle in knee on sat and sun haven't ran since have decided it may be body saying 4 times a week is too much so I have ordered some ankle weights and am going to try my very best to do a YouTube vid twice a week and run twice a week and see how that works for me

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 03/05/2017 10:16

It was knee niggles that made me tone it down too, Miss. Maxing 15k a week seems to be working though.

Howlongtillbedtime · 03/05/2017 10:46

It has made such a difference littlemiss . He has always run and I have never had the inclination or confidence and he has really boosted me up.

SkiBike007 · 03/05/2017 11:27

Still here just haven't run for over a week now due to life stuff getting in the way. I need to re-find my mojo and try get out today.
I am lucky my DH is super supportive and yes like others I find max 15k (2 runs, 1 long & 1 short) a week normally suits my body, anymore at the moment and the joints hurt.

Zippyzulu · 03/05/2017 19:33

My dh is also really supportive but he is a fitness fanatic and competes in his chosen sport. I never ever run with him as he is just too good (5k in under 20 minutes!) and I feel pressurised to keep up.
I haven't run since Monday as I've felt lousy all week. Going to take 8yo ds out for 3-4 k tomorrow night as we are doing our first trail race at the weekend so it's good practise!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 03/05/2017 19:39

I'm going to do a 5k tomorrow morning, then Parkrun this weekend.

Are you feeling any better now, Zippy?

Zippyzulu · 03/05/2017 20:28

I'm missing parkrun this week as I'm doing a race on Sunday... very sad as I love parkrun!
I feel marginally better but still not 100%. Thought it was a prolonged hangover but seems like some kind of bug, I feel really lethargic and worn out. I saw my GP today as I'm generally feeling washed out so back tomorrow for blood tests as I have a history of anaemia Sad I think a holiday would be the best medicine!

SkiBike007 · 03/05/2017 21:26

Hope you feel better soon zippy - I've felt utterly zonked out this week too think its mix of overworked & been fighting off a virus. I had long walk today & did some yoga instead of a run as just didn't have it in me. I was googling holidays too Grin

SkiBike007 · 05/05/2017 13:07

Forced myself out after 11d break, for 5k stamina podcast was really hard going with headwind I kept walking but I've just looked at Strava and I'd logged some super fast splits in the rtn leg Grin think wind was pushing me along! It's made me feel better anyway as I had concrete legs for first 2k and had walked 3x by that point!

Zippyzulu · 05/05/2017 13:31

Well done ski!
I haven't run since Monday so am hoping to fit 3-5k in tonight before dh goes out. So much juggling goes on in our house!

SkiBike007 · 05/05/2017 13:42

Thanks zippy yes we have similar lots juggling with DH & kids activities! Gd luck with your run later.

Zippyzulu · 05/05/2017 19:55

Almost everyone I talk to is the same. Dh and I would be fine if we had a live in nanny who could have one or all the dc at the drop of a hat!
I took ds (8) on my run, promising we would stop after 3k but we went slightly too far and then I kept persuading him to add another 1/2k on and we managed 5k in the end. We had to walk up a very large hill but he ran the rest of it- took us 32 minutes but I loved doing it with him Smile. Because I was taking it slowly I felt like I could have run much further so I'm also feeling more confident about the 10K.
Now to prepare for my first trail run on Sunday- good excuse to buy proper trail shoes anyway!

Mallowmarshmallow · 06/05/2017 21:52

Hi everyone

I've just completed the c25k program and have loved it!

I'm regularly running 4-5k three times a week and feel really spurred on for a new target so I've just downloaded the 10K runner app. I've had a flick through and the first few weeks seem doable. The first run is 10r, 5w, 10r which I'm sure I can do, then onto more interval style training.

The only thing is, with two small children I mainly run at 5am or 7.30pm and probably can't do three longer runs a week so I think my plan will be to carry on with two 5k runs a week then try to do one longer run/towards 10K a week.

Do you think this will work although it'll obviously take me much longer to get there?

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 06/05/2017 22:01

Hi Mallow! Congratulations on graduating.

I think quite a few of us here started off following 5-10K apps & then went off-piste. I do a max of 15k per week, mixing up 5ks & longer runs, & that works for me.

SkiBike007 · 07/05/2017 13:31

Well done mallow I completed C25k in December and been doing a mix of one 5k run and one longer run, mixed in with some swimming and odd cycle ride. I found when I tried to do multiple longer runs my joints hurt too much, as I'm overweight, mid 40s with two young kids. Some people make the jump easily from 5-10k but I've found it harder and wanted to enjoy my runs and not feel like they were a chore. I've used a couple of the NHS C25k + podcasts there's one for stamina and another for speed which have really helped me increase pace on my 5k. Along with looking back on Strava at my different segment splits it keeps me motivated.

Zippyzulu · 07/05/2017 13:50

Hi mellow. I too did c25k then carried on in my own way afterwards. I do 5k 1-2 times a week and try to fit a long run in as well. Sometimes I drop one of the 5k runs for a speedy 3k, depending on how much time I have.

I did my first trail run today and absolutely loved it. It was hard going and hilly in parts but it was really laid back and relaxed and I enjoyed it loads. I paced myself quite carefully and could have easily carried on a bit longer at that pace but I'd like to be faster!
I'm also starting a running club this week as I'm panicking about the 10K I'm doing in six weeks. The furthest I've run is 8k and that was a few weeks ago- with a dh that works away, 3 young dc, a dog and 2 jobs I struggle to fit everything in sometimes!
Hope everyone else has enjoyed their weekend runs Smile

Howlongtillbedtime · 07/05/2017 18:38

Today was the day for my local 5k run which started all this madness off and I got my first medal Grin

I am really chuffed that I managed it in under 35 mins . My dh did it in 23 and my 11 yr old did it in 31 but I am happy with my sub 35 !

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 07/05/2017 18:56

Hey, a medallist! Congratulations Howlong!!!

Howlongtillbedtime · 07/05/2017 19:30

Thank you Empress I am a happy bunny Grin

SkiBike007 · 07/05/2017 20:23

Whoohooo love a medal well done howlong

shortaris1 · 08/05/2017 08:05

Well done howlong and welcome mallow

Great going on the trail too Zippy

Apart from a 2k I haven't ran for 2 weeks. My ankle has been sprained and sore. I'm really missing it! Going to take this week off and hopefully get back on it next week as my 10k is 3 weeks on Sunday! I've still been lifting weights and doing body balance.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 08/05/2017 08:23

Hope your ankle's better soon, Shortaris.
