For C25K graduates who are taking the next step!

W10R1 this morning, 3x15min runs with minute walks in between. I wasn't at all sure I was going to finish but I did, checked MapMyRun & saw I'd done 6.3K.

Hadn't realised I could run that far!

Thanks all. I had never run before January this year and I'm pleased with how well I've progressed but I judge myself harshly sometimes as dh isn't a runner but came along to my last parkrun and finished it in 20 minutes- great confidence boost for me Grin
I finished my 8.5k this morning but it was really hot so I stopped to walk a couple of times so took over 50 minutes, which is slower than I wanted. Nonetheless I achieved it on my own terms!

Zippyzulu · 17/04/2017 12:33

Ski that was my plan today- dh dropped me 8.5 k away from a cafe and was waiting with cooked breakfast and cup of tea when I got there. I knew that I couldn't turn back that way!

SkiBike007 · 17/04/2017 12:39

Well done zippy I think that's a very respectable time (faster than me Grin) and great distance. men are normally faster as more muscle so it's not a like for like comparison. Also height/weight etc play their part (im a short curvy arse Wink ) My DH doesn't "run" but just casually did a 5mile hilly off road run yesterday! He does cycles loads though.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 17/04/2017 13:23

Zippy, my PB is 32 mins so I'd be over the moon with your time! Finished my 10K, 1:19:33 which I'm happy with, & going in search of a cheese toastie. It's fairly cool & fresh here today which helps.

Ski, I think most of us on here are shortarses Grin. I'm going to go back to the treadmill this week & do some more speed training.

Month & a half to the big run for pancreatic cancer, & I'm up to 98% of my £1,500 target, which I'm over the moon about. I started off aiming for £500 & I've upped it twice Grin.

Worryworker · 17/04/2017 13:35

Bit late to the thread as I've managed to work up to 10k and took part in my first 10k race 2 weeks ago- managed it in 56mins 23secs. Which is about 2 mins faster than have done before. So just wanted to say anyone doing 10k races in near future you'll probably find being in the race, having the competition will help and spur you on! I kept seeing people in front of me and thinking 'I'm getting past you!'. I loved it and am gonna sign up for a couple more races over the summer.

Ended up spraining my ankle painting a chair in the garden a few days after the race!! So less running past couple weeks but managed a 10k yesterday in 59 mins dead which was pleased with considering the head on wind!

Good luck to everyone and keep going Flowers

chopchopchop · 17/04/2017 14:28

Well done worry, if I ever manage that I will be amazed. But I am going to keep trying. And well done on the sponsorship Empress.

Short-ish run this morning because we're going away tomorrow, but then I'm knuckling down once term starts again.

I'm so relieved that you say 28 min is quick. DH only started running in Sept and already does 28 min park runs. I will never ever do a 28 min park run - on my current timings it would take me about 40min so I don't even dare try out of embarrassment.

I am also a short arse...

Silvertap · 17/04/2017 15:16

I did it!!! 58:52. From only being able to run for 2 mins at a time in January to this - I can't quite believe it.

Comment of the day came from a spectator I know "well done Silvertap (big pause) you're not last!!"

SkiBike007 · 17/04/2017 15:55

That's brilliant silver quite an achievement in a short time frame and really good time. Hope your doing lots of Grin Grin

I'm currently half way through a 5k with the kids (sat at the park at mo in sunshine) they cycling alongside so it's bit stop /start but been quite fun, just the uphill home bit to go now....Smile after they finished playing first!

Zippyzulu · 17/04/2017 15:59

That's a fab time worry, well done. Huge well done to silver too. Hope you celebrate tonight!
Empress I'm so impressed by your sponsorship... that's the kind of motivation I need Smile

I'm away this week but I have packed my trainers so hoping to fit a couple of runs in. Get back midnight Friday so trying to work out if parkrun on sat is achievable or not!

I'm distinctly average at 5'6 so don't think I count as a short arse... I'm thinner than I've ever been since starting running though, so that'll do for me!

KanyesVest · 17/04/2017 16:54

Wow, Silver that's an amazing time, well done! I'm also in the curvy short arse category so i consider anything under 80 mins flying Blush

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 17/04/2017 17:21

Brilliant time Silver, hope you're proud of yourself! Congratulations!

I'm 4'10.5 so definitely a shortarse.

I never really planned to go beyond the 5k but one of my best friends died from pancreatic cancer last year, so that spurred me on to do this. I hope running in a crowd makes me go faster, Worry, I can see myself being so worried about getting to the end that I end up crawling the whole way!

Chop, if I made 28 mins for a 5k - or under an hour for a 10K - I would be fucking ecstatic.

littlemissM92 · 17/04/2017 18:38

Silver that is epic ! Big congrats ! I am aiming for anything under 1hr 20 hope I can do it x

Worryworker · 17/04/2017 21:36

Congratulations silver, good on you. It's such a great feeling when you see the finish line isn't it? I was on such a high at the end, I didn't warm down and had a very tight, aching hamstring the next day!

The crowds and other runners will boost you Empress and you won't realise how tired your legs, lungs are! You'll be fine.

I would like to improve my pace now, ready for another couple of 10k races over the summer. Anyone have any hints/tips of ways to go about this? I did short, interval runs when training for first 10k so maybe doing some of that again?

SkiBike007 · 18/04/2017 21:10

Amazing fundraising empress hope you can enjoy the run.

I may have enlisted a friend to do a local 10k in few weeks time so I have another goal now. With that in mind I did 6k nonstop tonight under 40mins, (just) so I was really pleased to have kept plodding despite millions tiny flies everywhere tonight! Got one in my eye and in my mouth but kept repeating in my head "don't stop" Grin whilst trying to blink the bugger out of my weeping eye.

littlemissM92 · 18/04/2017 21:13

Another 5k tonight 33min again

littlemissM92 · 19/04/2017 08:20

Something tells me I won't be finishing the 10k in double that time tho ! Lol

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 19/04/2017 18:17

As long as you finish, Miss!

Do it, Ski, you're so close to being able to run the whole thing.

Worry, I hope you're right. I'm going to do the NHS stamina podcast again tomorrow morning.

Zippyzulu · 19/04/2017 20:43

Amazing progress, well done. After my 8.5k run on Monday I settled for 5k and it took me 29 mins and was exhausting so I think I'm still tired from the long run... I'm also on holiday and been up since 4.30 to catch a flight!

I would love to finish my 10K in under an hour but I can't see it happening. I can't see it happening at all tbh! Just feel I've committed myself too much and it is taking over Sad, I think I need to mix things up a bit and do some sprints etc so increase my speed and overall fitness. It's such a minefield!

shortaris1 · 19/04/2017 20:43

Well done, some very speedy newbies on here worry and zippy ! I'm still 35.09 for a flat 5k but doing 2 timed 5ks a week plus interval training and ideally a longer run too.

I'm up to 9k now with 7 weeks to go til my race so should be OK.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 19/04/2017 21:09

You'll be fine, Shortaris!

Zippy, if I were you I'd go easy on myself. If you can do 8.5k now you'll be able to do 10K in June providing you don't wear yourself out by then!

I overdid it just before Christmas and my knees gave me hell for weeks so I'm not risking that again. I'm alternating 10Ks and 5ks at weekends, doing a 5k one morning a week and doing regular workouts at the gym with a lot of knee strengthening stuff and some speed practice. I'd like to finish my run in under 1hr20 but I'm more concerned about being in a fit state to do it!

shortaris1 · 19/04/2017 22:45

Oh and littlemiss I wear the Panache bra mentioned above on its own too and Im a FF cup. And 5 foot for whoever asks

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 20/04/2017 09:00

Morning! Estimating a bit because I started tracking while I was still walking, but 5k in about 34.30. And now heading for the office biscuit tin!

Zippyzulu · 20/04/2017 09:39

Well done empress! I'm having a day off today but hoping to do something tomorrow.

Thanks for the positivity. I think after this 10K I am going to stick to doing 5k runs! I know I can finish it but I'm very stubborn and would like to do it in a decent time and without stopping!

SkiBike007 · 20/04/2017 18:24

Well done empress and good luck zippy sure you will nail it!

I went for swim today but planning another run tom eve going to aim for 45mins nonstop and see how far I get Smile

PossumInAPearTree · 20/04/2017 19:20

The cheap bra I linked to down thread according to reviews is a knock off of the Panache bra.
