For C25K graduates who are taking the next step!

W10R1 this morning, 3x15min runs with minute walks in between. I wasn't at all sure I was going to finish but I did, checked MapMyRun & saw I'd done 6.3K.

Hadn't realised I could run that far!

You're right Empress I need to do more rest days. Did Parkrun this morning (10secs off my PB), am meeting a friend tomorrow morning for a slow run/walk and THEN I will rest Grin. Your Cotswolds run sounds lovely, I grew up there and miss it, such a beautiful part of the world.

Biking congrats on the 6km even if it was tough you did it!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 05/02/2017 13:23

It does work Arch, especially if you're doing other kinds of exercise on the non-running days. Congrats on your new PB! I've got one too. Just finished this weekend's 10K, from Tower Bridge to Greenwich & taken 2.5 mins off last week's time Grin. Lovely views as well.

Yes, the Cotswolds were beautiful but reminded me I need a LOT more practice to conquer hills!

Biking007 · 06/02/2017 11:18

Just did my first one hour run Grin Grin Grin 8.5k bit of headwind and some up/down so I'm super pleased with my longest run yet. I SO got in the zone which was fab after the really tough run in Sat. I did stop couple times to stretch out my legs as the left one keeps stiffening up. I know now I can do 10k if I keep pacing myself Smile

Well done empress on your fab PB 10k that's brill Star

Good parkrun arch. I'm getting slower but going further at the moment plus I've been experimenting with some different run routes as my confidence is growing which I'm enjoying. Today's was along the estuary which was lovely view just bit windy on the way back.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 06/02/2017 12:01

Well done Biking and thanks!

I found an app called New Route & I'm using it to plan 10Ks for variety. I want to aim to keep doing one most weekends (always ending up near a good place for lunch) Grin.

Biking007 · 06/02/2017 19:44

I'll have a look at the app but I'm spoilt with a couple of fab cycle paths and /or 2mile seafront or the rest is hilly roads! I'll prob stick to the off road cycle paths for now Smile they are still concrete or rocky type surface so tough impact on my joints but no cars and less people with nice views. I may try beach running once my ankles are feeling stronger but I think that will be quite hard going!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 06/02/2017 20:10

Yes, I think running on sand would be tough! I'm measuring out a range of 10ks near the Thames. How are the swimming & cycling going?

Biking007 · 06/02/2017 21:05

I'm trying to swim at least once a week I've found the running has really improved my "puff" I rattled off 1km in the pool last week which would have killed me a couple of mths ago!Smile wow running along the Thames couldn't be more different from my environment. Must be busy with people? Grin

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 07/02/2017 06:06

Isn't it satisfying when you can see the effects of all this exercise? Grin

There are some bits full of people but a lot of reasonably quiet stretches, especially around now.

Biking007 · 07/02/2017 21:28

Some good information on the C4 prog get fit fast tonight on running Smile

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 07/02/2017 22:20

I'll look out for that on catchup, Biking.

Biking007 · 10/02/2017 16:47

Busy work week this week but squeezed in 5k this morning once I'd dropped kids at breakfast club. Felt like hard work but I was faster than recently and early cold start meant it took awhile to get going Smile. Hoping to do a longer run Sun or Mon eve, it will be more challenging finding the time with the kids off school in half term next week.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 10/02/2017 22:12

That must be tricky. Can they realistically go with you?

I was planning to do another stretch of the river this weekend, but in the square outside work today I saw snowdrops, crocuses and a few daffodils starting to open, so I think I'm going to do Hyde Park instead and look for flowers Grin.

Biking007 · 11/02/2017 08:43

Grin at my kids running with me, the eldest could but alas not the youngest but she could ride her bike or scooter but she stops every 30sec it would be a nightmare to get her to do even 5k Smile I'm better waiting for DH to be home and nipping out in the evening if the kids haven't knackered me out during the day Grin it's snowing light flurries ere this morning Shock super excited kids!

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 12/02/2017 09:14

Definitely tricky then! Grin
Did you manage to get out or was the weather too grim? I'm off to the park in about an hour.

Biking007 · 12/02/2017 17:38

Just did my second 8.5k same route as last week and bit faster but was tough going as struggled abit with a stitch due to heavy lunch 1.5hrs before the run. Foot a little sore so going to get some new trainers for my birthday next weekend Smile, can't believe I've been running for nearly 6mths now Shock

Hope u enjoyed Hyde park empress

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 12/02/2017 19:33

Ooh what kind are you getting?

Speeding up's even more impressive with a stitch!

I did thanks, but it ended up being a short one. I kept getting distracted by flowers & things & then the cold rain kicked in.

Biking007 · 12/02/2017 21:28

I'm sticking to New Balance as I've had 3pairs now as they do a wide fitting in female trainers which I find really hard to find normally. They should arrive by Thursday Grin hopefully they will fit ok.

SkiBike007 · 15/02/2017 10:56

New trainers just arrived!

SkiBike007 · 15/02/2017 10:57

More mint green than the turquoise I wanted bit DD says they look "cool" Grin

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 15/02/2017 14:33

Fabulous! When's your birthday?

SkiBike007 · 18/02/2017 21:14

I got a 7k in on Friday eve but just couldn't get in the zone fighting off a virus I think, but I kept thinking any run is better than none Smile and plodded on and got quite a good time in the end.

How's everyone else doing it's gone bit quiet on here Smile I'm trying to decide whether to sign up to a race for life 10k in the summer. I didn't start running to do a "race" but for my own head space and fitness which has been great through the winter.

shortaris1 · 19/02/2017 21:33

Hello Ski I start working towards 10K tomorrow. Downloaded the new app and I'm on leave so I'll get a run in when its light for a change.

I'm thinking of doing the ladies 10k in June.

Went to a wedding yesterday and running has knocked so many inches off my thighs that my hold ups weren't staying up! Never saw that coming.

KanyesVest · 19/02/2017 22:00

Hi everyone! Sorry I haven't been checking in. Looks like everyone is getting on really well. I've been champing at the bit to get back, so since it's now a month, I tried a short, slow jog this evening and I managed 3km! Running slowly was harder than I expected, but I didn't have to limp at any point so I'm counting it as a massive win!

Shortaris, I'm thinking of doing a 10k in June too! Although I wish running had the same effect on my thighs...

SkiBike007 · 20/02/2017 07:40

That's brill shortaris I've had a similar effect with a tighter pair of jeans that id hidden back in the summer but are comfy now yet I've not lost a lb in weight. It's nice to start feeling toned up more nowSmile

Yah kanye glad a short run didn't aggrevate your injury. Hope you can build it back up with no issues. My DH hadn't been able to run properly for 2-3mths now he's had to switch back to cycling as his hip joint too painful. We've started taking cod liver oil capsules to see if it helps Grin he ran too fast (4.25min/k split and too far - 10miler did it!) but he said it's just too hard to run slowly so he'd rather walk or cycle which aren't making it hurt too much.

EmpressOfTheSpartacusOceans · 20/02/2017 22:11

Hello!

Welcome to the thread, Shortaris! I've found that too, I haven't weighed myself for a while but a lot of my clothes are getting looser. Especially round my shoulders and waist.

Kanye, that's brilliant. Don't overdo it though.

Don't know whether the cod liver oil's working for me yet, Bike, but I hope it helps your DH. I'm going to have another week in the gym and aim for a long run next weekend. I ran my first 6 minute km on the treadmill this morning 😀 so maybe by the end of the week I'll have upped that to 2km in 12 mins.

Do sign up for a 10K! It's a massive motivator!
