Gather here parkrunners old and new. Tell us all about your running, volunteering, juniors, tourism, Cake and cows.

Old thread here for anyone interested.

We are probably the best thread on MN. All are welcome here whether you are brand new to parkrun or sporting your 500 shirt.

Ohhhh this is exciting! I didn't know there was a parkrun thread!

I'm doing some tourism at Great Conrad this weekend... Anyone else?

standingonlego · 27/04/2017 17:55

Nicest thread on mumsnet Grin

standingonlego · 28/04/2017 18:59

Woo hoo! Bob is on the parkrun e-mail today 😃

standingonlego · 28/04/2017 19:14

Welcome firstdates...no run for me this week, 12k of mud and obstacles awaits me instead Confused

chutneypig · 28/04/2017 19:43

I've been a bit AWOL recently - big wave and hello to some new faces! Looking forward to catching up.

I've only done Belton of those MyBlackCat and love it. Gorgeous course and the restaurant is fab after. I'd do a double check it's on, they tend to cancel a fair few this time of year because of events. I've heard the cake is very good at Newark though Grin

We're at home this weekend, it's not going to be pretty, my legs are aching after I bit the bullet and joined an athletics club this week.

Cherrypi · 29/04/2017 10:51

Just did my first parkrun. Loved it.

MyBlackCat · 29/04/2017 13:44

Well done cherry welcome to your new Saturday morning addiction Smile

I went to Newark, as you said chutney belton house was cancelled. Newark was three laps with varied terrain, didn't have huge hills but was always up and down, can't say it's up there with my favourites but I did manage to beat the 25 min pacer Smile

MelanieCheeks · 29/04/2017 17:35

Welcome aboard, cherry!

I managed a Peace Bridge PB at Derry's 200th event, and my son did his first solo one in London.

Can I ask about the discrepancy between Strava and Parkrun official timing?

Strava today told me I had a new 5k best of 30:20

But my official Parkrun time was 31:22

I have Strava set to announce each km and it does it at the exact point I reach each of the official course km markers, so I don't think it's a distance discrepancy, and I presume Strava can count time correctly, so I can only think it's a Parkrun timing thing?

I know it's free and not an exact science so not complaining too much, but I'm really keen to break the 30 barrier and it's looking like I might have to actually run 29 for Parkrun to come out as 30!

MelanieCheeks · 01/05/2017 17:35

There can be all sorts of issues when uploading stopwatch and scanners - the offical results are the official results, but they may not tally with your personal record.

reallyneedmoresleep · 01/05/2017 18:56

Did the Sheringham Parkrun whilst camping in Norfolk. It was beautiful but oh my god hilly! I nearly died

chutneypig · 02/05/2017 06:49

Well done MyBlackCat. I've got to say three laps doesn't really appeal.

Hello Cherry!

Great news on the PB Melanie

I know my home run always comes up at 5.1 whether I use my garmin or phone GPS but I think that's down to starting further back from the start. Are there lots of trees sniffle? I've been told that can play havoc with GPS.

Got to love a hilly parkrun really - did they describe it as undulating?!

cinnamongreyhound · 02/05/2017 17:04

I don't know if anyone is close enough but a group from my parkrun are going to wimpole on 27th may if anyone fancies meeting up there. I haven't read back been a whirlwind weekend!
I was rd Saturday, beautiful day, 144 runners, no incidents what more could you ask for?
Got a quick run and run this weekend as ds1 is going trampolining with some friends so will be dashing off to Norwich straight after parkrun.

feetheart · 04/05/2017 23:24

cinnamon - shame, we are away and planning on doing Gorlstone Cliffs - number 17 of DS's attempt to get to 20 this year. Really want to do Wimple again when it isn't cold and foggy and the depths of winter :)

Desperately trying to fit in a Norn Irn summer visit to the grandparents that includes a Saturday, it is proving tricky Angry

cinnamongreyhound · 05/05/2017 08:24

If you're going for a good time at gorleston get yourself a nearish the front. It's narrow for at least the first km and they tell you you can't go in the grass. They had their attendance record when I was there, 384 Shock
That's a shame about not being about for wimpole, we can make a date another one if you'd like though? And good luck with your ni trip.

daisydoosoph · 05/05/2017 15:44

Hi all, I'm a newbie looking for some advice please. I'm doing my first park run tomorrow with a friend and I've a few questions. We are planning to walk the course, she's got ill health and I'm obese. I'm hoping to gradually begin to run as I get fitter. What should I wear? I've got trackies and trainers will they be ok? And if it starts at 9 what time shall I arrive? Thank you

Cherrypi · 05/05/2017 15:46

I did my first one last week in trackies and trainers. Ours had a new runners briefing at 8:55am. Enjoy.

FlightlessBird · 05/05/2017 17:14

I'd aim to arrive at least 8.40 actually I'd go earlier but I'm terminally early for EVERYTHING that will give you time to find a carpark and get to the start. Find anyone in a hi vis vest and let them know you are new, they'll show you where the new runners briefing will be.
Trainers and trackies are just fine, as is walking.
Have a great time and don't forget your barcode!!

AuntieStella · 05/05/2017 18:21

If you think about it, everyone's in trainers and trackies (until it's warm enough for shorts). Just that some trackies are significantly tighter than others, and some trainers way more expensive.

daisydoosoph · 05/05/2017 18:58

Thank you all! Very helpful, I won't have my barcode because it's all a very last minute thing and I've no printer at home. I intend to take it next time though. I'll let you know how I get in x

moutonfou · 06/05/2017 08:08

Trying to work up to today's PR after a stressful week. Someone please tell me I'll be happy once I've done it!

Cherrypi · 06/05/2017 10:37

How did it go Daisy? I managed three minutes continuous running today yay. Don't think I beat last week's time though.
